Before anyone reads this, it is meant to be an explanation, not an attack. When a someone doesn't subscribe, it might be because they have people controlling them (parents, guardians, other) who don't want to let them subscribe. I created this account solely for the purpose of not having it show up on my parents' browsers, because I wasn't allowed to subscribe to anyone. Additionally, for those who are in the closet, watching channels with LGBTQ people in them is awesome, but we'll go to insane lengths to cover it up. Thank you for being openly gay. It gives me hope.

It's so nice to see someone of another faith celebrating festivals that have pagan roots and actually noticing/accepting this without trying to cover it up. Another reason to love Jessica 💕
I've always found Quakerism interesting to learn about. Personally I'm not really religious, I believe that everything is sacred and nature is our provider (not a god but I realise the importance and power of nature) but I don't dismiss the idea of a higher being/deities etc but don't particularly worship any. I also celebrate most pagan festivals, mainly the esbats and equinox/solstices. So some kind of off the path paganism 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

I’m a Wiccan and have been for well over 10 years at this point I celebrate Yule as well as Christmas because of family, but in recent months I’ve came to the conclusion that possibly in another life (if you believe in that sort of thing) that I could happily be a Quaker. While it’s not for me in this life who knows what’s next so this very well could be what I lean towards eventually. I love the fact that it’s a well deserved break and breath of fresh air from the whole of ceremonial Evangelical beliefs that exist today and tend to focus more on conversion and at times within the last 40 years, violence by a select few people towards others who don’t agree with this. It’s a lot more friendly, accepting, streamlined and in ways less complicated and flashy than a lot of modern Bible based religions and beliefs which deserves a ton of respect in itself.

Just to add an anecdote to your story, growing up, my two best friends were Jewish, and they celebrated Christmas, albeit the secular aspects of it. They put up a tree and decorated their houses with Santa Claus and snowmen and reindeer and twinkling lights...all that jazz. Their rationale was, Christmas is mostly a secular holiday nowadays anyway, and there's nothing religious about a man sliding down your chimney to deliver presents underneath a pine tree you've propped up in the living room. I couldn't find fault in their argument. You wouldn't see Christians celebrating Hanukkah, however, as there's no secular aspect to that holiday for non-Jews to partake in. I do love a good latke, though.
I'm an atheist, and I celebrate Christmas the exact same way. I love the music and the lights and the decorations and the food and the togetherness with friends and family. You don't need religious faith or even _Christian_ religious faith to enjoy that.

Installing christmas tree’s trinkets and wrapping small gifts to be placed under is a popular moment for children. Christmas trees become a symbol of Christmas celebrations and of course a time that is expected by children even for the whole family. Although Christmas Tree is a regular cypress tree full of ornaments but very meaningful to improve the warmth of the family. “I felt the warmth of a family”, and of course the angels are happy to see it from a distance. Thank you for this video Jessica. I love a good ponder on meanings! I agree with the idea that it's nice to make life meaningful and appreciate the gift of getting to be alive, I think adversity can really bring that into focus. Personally, I celebrate the summer solstice, because it makes sense to be joyful on the longest brightest day of the year! And at midwinter, I celebrate the darkest longest night, and the knoedge that the spark of light will return with longer days and warmth, as a metaphor for life too. At Christmas, because I live in nz, but we do a family christmas in the garden, and I enjoy the picnic food, relaxing, and appreciation through small gifts my family does. I really appreciate how open and relatable you make your spiritual questions, I guess that's a reflection of the non judgement of the quaker philosophy, the encouragemnt and trust to speak your mind and also listen to others genuinely too. My dad was a quaker for years, and I'm realising how much of what you say is familiar through him parenting me. Anyway, all the best

Given that if the Christ-child did indeed exist, then he was not born on the 25th of December, but sometime in march. The sole reason Christmas is celebrated at that time that it is, is due to the pagan rites of rebirth and renewal associated with the 'death' of the sun on the shortest day of the year and the feasting associated with the defiance of the scarcity of resources.

It is easy to identify other people's traditions, beliefs, and biases that are different from our own experience. This season is a great time to take a moment to "smell our own Christmas" - examine why we think, believe, and act the way we do and be genuinely interested in why others think, believe, and act the way they do. In fact, that sounds like a great tradition everyone can enjoy. Maybe every year we should learn about a different culture/religion and celebrate with them.

I think the holidays are a fantastic time to stop our "Day To Day" thoughts that can be scattered (brain fog is SOOOO real people) & instead focus on what we are grateful for over the past year, or; to think about the people you are buying Christmas gifts for, & include a hand written note tucked in to the gift itself. I think a hand written note is one of the most underrated gifts out there. Especially when it’s to tell someone how you feel about them or to thank them for a specific incident. You always remind us to think outside of box which I love!! Speaking of, I need to get quite a few notes written & a package sent off to all of you!! Hugs, love & kisses for the pups 🤗💜🦋😘🐾🐾
    Edit: Collab with Stevie!!!

Growing up, our Quaker meeting did Christmas plays every year but not usually the nativity. One year, my mom tried to do a First Day School lesson about consensus and we ended up with an Olive the Other Reindeer/Stone Soup/Happy Feet mashup. And we do a Christmas Eve carol sing.

I loved this, personally I identify as Catholic but I absolutely love hearing about what other people believe in without the judgement of other religions. I always try to listen to what people say and understand their point of view without pushing my own beliefs on them. Which is what I think you've done beautifully here, Thankyou for this video 10/10 😍😍😍

I really think that Christmas has become a family holiday more than a religious one. At least in Canada, I can’t talk for others. But here, I can’t think of anyone I know that sees Christmas as a religious event. We all celebrate family and spending time together. I think it’s the best part of Christmas!

Fan fact! A lot of Asian languages (Chinese, Japanese, Korean I know for sure, probably more) also do the months and dates the same-ish way. They do have names for the days of the week but they say dates (example December 3) as 12 month 3 day.
I always love learning from you about Quakerism because you explain it in such a soothing and calming way. I'm an agnostic theist who can't claim to know if any one religion has anything right or wrong but that something somewhere might be. And that kind of attitude is kind of how I feel Quakerism is when you talk about it. Like there is no telling someone they are right or wrong because each person gets to experience it their own way and I just love it!

As a quaker myself and a UK person to boot. It was so nice to see a fellow sister talk about our faith. There are not many UK vlogers which are lgbt and none that are openly quaker.
BTW the quaker faith has no standing on marram between people in the lgbt community. We were the first to acknowledge it's validity.
I must say this blog was delightful and happy holidays.

Thank you for enlightening me on the Quaker religious practices. You opened my eyes to aspects I never knew of. Like you, I find myself in the middle when it comes to Christmas, balancing the religious & festive ( or 'commercial') goings on. The one overall concept I never waver on is the act of giving. Whether it be monetary donations or food donations or clothing donations or donating my time ... I truly enjoy giving of what I have and/or can. Sharing something that helps achieve a happiness for another is what I have & always will cherish, not just during the holidays but year round. I believe it to be healthy and fulfilling to celebrate traditions. As the saying goes, "Peace on Earth, goodwill towards men." 🤔 Perhaps it's time to alter that. How about: "Peace on Earth, goodwill to ALL"
Thank you for the video, Jessica. #Vlogmas is off to a fantastic start. Maybe for a future Vlogmas video you could discuss any traditions you & Claudia share, or any the two of you wish to begin. Thanks again! Take care!! 👍🤟💝

Conclusion : Christmas doesn’t have to be a religious event these days as it is mostly a cultural thing these days.

I'm not religious at all but I celebrate christmas and halloween because they've both been secularized enough that religion doesn't have to be a part of it. Candy, dressing up, food and presents? Who isn't down for that? I can be atheist and still appreciate traditions and cultural practices as well as see a decorated tree and think it's beautiful and artistic. I just don't attach any god or goddesses to it. It's a tree with pretty lights. Family is coming over and bringing 10 tons of food. Atheists are't all party poopers who dislike any and all displays of religion.

As someone who doesn't celebrate Christmas in the standard sense, being Jewish, I really enjoyed seeing how you as a Non-Christian or a Non-Standard Christian that's different from what you see in the media. I personally do celebrate with family members because they have chosen to not embrace Judaism, which is their right, but they have chosen to celebrate Christmas secularly. So I buy them gifts for Christmas and we spend time together and we also visit other family. I just love hearing about all the different ways the holiday seasons are celebrated by different people.

Honestly Christmas season use to be a time where I would spoil my family with multiple unique gifts and also celebrate baby Jesus and the virgins Mary’s birthday (raised catholic) but now this year I lost my job with no real hope soon, I’m finally made to rethink it all, I do appreciate time with my family with food. So Christmas means a time to gather and share a piece of each other’s stories from the year and really get to understand each other.

We celebrate Christmas in late December because of the winter solstice, of course, which is December 21st and is the darkest day of the year. After the 21st, each day gets slightly longer daylight, so it is a celebration of the "halfway mark" and the knowledge that it is going to get better from there on out...that is until June 21st, the summer solstice, which is of course the longest day of the year. Easter was originally the celebration of the spring equinox (when day and night are equal). We really don't celebrate the fall equinox though, which is in september.

I appreciate Jessica acknowledging that Christmas is a Christian practice, even if many of its traditions have pagan roots. As someone who is Jewish and not Christian, it can be frustrating when people say (at least in the US, can't speak for the UK) that Christmas is a secular celebration when it very much is not, and if you were raised outside of the dominant cultural practices of Christianity, you are very aware of this. So while not all Quakers are Christian, the practice of Christmas is, and I think it's important for people who do celebrate Christmas to recognize that even if they don't think of it especially religiously, it is a religious practice specific to one religion, not all of them.

As someone who is kinda somewhere in the middle of Paganism and Atheism, Quarkerism sounds very... more spiritual than other monotheistic/Abrahamic religions. I love, love, love all of your videos about Quakerism personally because they're just peaceful and judgement free rather than "this is how it should be!"
You lot seem to have the same goals as Paganism, tbh, which is equality, peace and all of that. Kindness and caring about your fellow human beings no matter their differences. I mean the love of nature is very important too.
There is a lot of crossover between Quakerism and Paganism, at least from what I've seen in your videos. Lots of love and light to you and Claudia and the furbabies!
Edited to add a huge Thank Youuuuuuuu for acknowledging that Christmas and many other "Christian" holidays are pagan in origin!
