    Some of those feats of strength are totally believable. Iv known many people who go to the gym and are able to lift twice their body weight. If MacAskill was a fit 400 pounds, having worked hard all his life, then picking up 600 pounds is not all that extraordinary.

      I don't think I heard it in this video but one feat I've heard and read about was that of lifting and setting a 40 foot schooner mast which would have weighed 12,000 pounds at the least and 30,000 pounds at the heaviest depending on the wood it was made of.
      Also I myself have a muscle mutation, I am 220 pounds. When I started going to the gym with my big friend just before I graduated I could leg press about 400 pounds, in just 2 months, I reached 1150 pounds and I would have continued if that wasn't the heaviest it could go. I would do 100 reps of everything I was working on in a night and I am a constant 40 to 50 pounds heavier than I look do to higher muscle fiber density.

      @@deadman9335You have a muscle mutation? LOL, I could leg press a grand at age 16. Your leg press max is an extremely poor indicator of overall strength. I wouldn't get to comfortable with the idea that you have a "muscle mutation."

    Some people are naturally strong . I went to school with a family who were related to Angus McCaskill long after Angus died . The three boys in the family. One son was a champion powerlifter and the other son could beat any one in the high school including the teachers in a arm wrestling. I saw the third son lug a full sets of barbell weights from the store and carry the weights at least two miles home in a backpack.

    Englishtown Cape Breton Island, is not Northern Canada...it's East Coast Canada, and I was born and raised just a few miles away from there..I grew up hearing the stories of Angus McAskill, from great grandparents, and great uncles, who actually knew the man...None of these stories are fabricated, and there are many more not documented, but equally impressive.

    To me this is a clear pituitary giant. Normally this prevents people reaching puberty. I think Angus had a massive dose of growth hormone which stopped and then got a second dose of growth hormone after puberty. People don't just grow. If this was true he is the only example. Most people nearly 8 feet tall are on crutches and are bean poles. However he existed and was almost certainly the strongest man of all time.

    His strenght was unparallel to this day probably, however I highly doubt that anyone could lift anchor that is 1 ton to chest height
    Given his other feats it is safe to assume that he would be able to deadlift that anchor but lifting it to chest height requires him to biceps curl 1 ton of weight which is quiet impossible and trying that would probably tear his biceps, and that is also unbalaced weight
    This was probably exaggerated story because at that time the place where he was ( I forgot name ) had only 300 to 350 kgs anchors, meaning he had no way of lifting non existant anchor of that time
    My guess is that he picked that 300 to 350 kg anchor and raised it of the ground but once he tried to lift it over chest height he hit himself with anchor fluke on his shoulder
    Since he walked away with it he did indeed lift that anchor but not over chest height as story goes, he most likely carried that anchor in upright position with fluke in his shoulder
    But it is also possible that he somehow got that anchor to chest height but not with using his biceps to curl that weight
    Either way this would put him at about 8 to 9 times strenght of average male in modern era, this would still put him at almost twice the strenght of strongest strongman that we know of today
    With modern training and suplements that number would have been doubled, basically he would have a strenght close to adult male gorilla
    Basically he was stronger than any man from his time to this day and he did not even train for that
    He probably had one in trillion genetics
    We won't be seeing another angus for hundreds of year to come

    • @ForgottenFitness
      @ForgottenFitness  Год назад

      It probably became exaggerated while he was in the circus.

    • @Vuk3
      @Vuk3 Год назад

      @@ForgottenFitness my guess too
      Some lifts were probably exaggerated like anchor lift but other lifts could have been very real considering a man of his size would be easly bigger than any strongman today
      Brian shaw felt small for the first time in his life standing near his real life replica so a man that big had not only strenght but reach advantage to lift 2 large barrels under his arms, lift a full grown horse over a fence and lift 50 kgs at arms lenght
      Andre entered gym for the first time in his life and bench pressed on incline 200 kgs for 5 reps, angus was bigger and stronger than andre so it is not impossible for man of his size to lift giant things that would take like 5 to 10 men to lift them

I've measured out 7'9" on a wall, then guessed where his shoulders would be and pulled the tape to 44". He was a fucking monster! Would have loved to meet him back then!
