Edgeguarding before S4 felt unfair because the important actions happened long before you actually tried to grab the ledge, for non-expert players the whole process felt predetermined by your enemy.
Now we have Steve, the actual single reason I stopped playing.
I would say it's more volatile, as most characters before Smash 4 had weak recoveries that were easy to checkmate, so you had to be strategic. Though I admit that there are cases where you're absolutely not getting back the moment you get launched. Still prefer this approach however.
Ultimate had a good balance, (Smash 4 made recovery too safe) until they decided to make Smash 64 edgeguarding look tame by giving Steve the ability to just block ledge entirely within seconds.
@@TZMHBT For about half of Steve's MUs, bare competence on his part is all that's necessary to predetermine your enemy's success in getting back.
Steve is ridiculous. Imagine you are playing Captian Falcon and you have your non-DLC recovery. Steve edgeguards with a block. You wait. Steve throws down an anvil. You wait. You thought it was safe to recover now but now Steve does a down smash on the anvil while it was plummeting down. You died.

I think my favorite position in a match to be in is up by a stock. I always play extra good once I’m up by that one stock because I start playing a lot more loose and high-risk (which tends to work out for me).
