Because it is open source, user can run Deepseek R1 locally; no user data were sent to China based server. I have tried both versions. On my low-powered laptop, it was much slower.

    This is an open-source model.
I run it locally on my computer. Nothing is being sent to anyone.
And since it's open-source I can also tune it like I want to.

We should be talking about building an open source, decentralized, and privacy protecting global platform for collective terrestrial intelligence, CTI. The platform needs to be able to merge, deduplicate, fact check, and aggregate the knowledge and sentiment expressed in public conversations with billions of people around the world. People could access the platform with their phones.

The US now offers its national security to TikTok for 50% off. As long as TikTok sells 50% of itself to an American company, it is free to move around the US.

Xi Jinping, “Power Must be Caged by the System”, Qiushi, January 22, 2013:
“We should continue to catch ‘tigers’ as well as ‘flies’ when dealing with cases of leading officials in violation of Party discipline and state laws as well as misconduct and corruption problems that directly affect the people’s interests. All are equal before the law and Party discipline; whoever is involved in a corruption case must be thoroughly and impartially investigated.”
The results, after 12 years of Xi’s anti-corruption campaign?
    “Corruption is RAMPANT in China!”
-Victor Gao, Al Jazeera, August 2024 in front of a live international audience.

Open-source is great from a philanthropic point of view, but I don't understand the business model, especially for a sector that has very high R&D and production costs. How will further R&D costs be paid for to bring new innovations? If you look at how the CCP has behaved in other industries, their MO has been to undercut and dump products into the market to push out competition until they effectively have a monopoly, using government subsidies cover the loses for manufactures. I think in part this is their strategy. If US AI companies go out of business, they win.

Please don't cry, just blame the inefficiency in your industries, governments. For instance, our new EV manufacturing plants are running by a few technicians looked over computers with no manual workers at site. Our government had treated Tesla the same way as our own EV brands in China regarding the consumer rebates or subsidies. If China didn't give your big 3 a hand in 2008 these US corporations wouldn't have gone under.....

Whatever, dude. The CCP is the master of inefficiency.
Standing on the shoulders of giants and then knocking over the giants you're standing on isn't very wise.

Socialism for the “tech bros” and capitalism for the rest of us is your preferred model. We know.

      @David-ut3zv
      What do you mean?
      "Socialism for the tech bros."
I'll hazard a guess and say that I don't support subsidizing private industry in general, including the tech industry. I was very much opposed to the subsidies for electric vehicles, and I'm very much against the 500bn Trump is setting up for AI.

DeepSeek as presented by the Chinese will not work well with quantum computing (n-qubit states) and evolved chip architecture ... still, a good opportunity for military and commerce to reexamine technological understandings and actual expenditures.
