Another way to play without writing in the book is to use a tablet or iPad if you have one. Just take a pic and mark that up. iPad Pro is conveniently about the same size as the game.
The popularity of the Bismarck remains remarkable. I reviewed the movie Sink the Bismarck! and it was easily the most popular video on the channel. Your review reminds me of the old - very old - Avalon Hill game of the Bismarck - the ultimate and deadly game of hide and seek.
Just picked up this game based on your and Discriminating Gamer's recommendations. I just had one question. I noticed you had managed to get really good copies of the book's pages so you didn't have to write in the book. Was a bit curious how you managed that, because it didn't seem like you took the book apart (unless you bought two copies to do just that).
Love your reviews Marco. Have you tried Waterloo Solitaire also from Worthington games? Also, there is another similar book game from a different company called The Fields of Normandy? I enjoy more land based combat but your review makes me want to get Bismarck. Thanks
Thanks for the nice review, Marco. This is a fantastic game. I think it mirrors the uncertainty of ocean battle in that era as you mentioned. Bismarck has enough strategy to keep it entertaining, but the game is easy enough to not get bogged down in a million rules. By the way, I either use a transparency or transparent sheet protector with an ultrafine sharpie. My one suggestion for improvement would be if Worthington made the game spiral bound or had it punched for a three-ring binder.
Couldn't you get a thin sheet of clear plastic, overlay it over the map using an erasable pen to do the markings? Would there be other issues that arise in doing this?
Thanks for creating the wonderful reviews. I love the games you pick, and how you cover the material.
Glad you enjoy it!

This very much reminds me of the first edition of Avalon Hill's "Bismarck" - one of my favorites.
Will you be reviewing waterloo solitaire by the same publisher? I am on the fence on which to purchase ( leaning towards waterloo)
I like the randomization tables used in this. I’m not into wargames myself, but I can see myself borrowing that mechanic for homebrew games.
Bring on The Graf Spee..🙂

the book you see in the vid is the same one I slammed on the copier. I guess it just has a really good spine
Glad I picked up copies for my son and myself. Haven’t played it yet but your review should help me hit the ground running.
