Thank you for this review. I'm new to the Thinkpad world. Just recently purchased my 1st ever ThinkPad T440 and I am loving it. Have been going through and doing all the upgrades you can possibly do to make this the beast of a machine that I know it can be. Since purchasing the laptop 2 weeks ago I have increased to 8GB Crucial RAM, purchased the internal battery (might just had the plastic filler as well), completed the FHD IPS Samsung screen (LTN140HL02-201) found on Ebay for $29.00 shipped to my house, and done the trackpad upgrade to the T450 trackpad but still having driver issues and can't get the trackpoint buttons working yet. Got advice on one of the forums regarding this and ordered a different trackpad and going to see what happens. Only thing left is I think I am going to upgrade the i5 to an i7 and for the couple hundred dollars that I am going to have into purchasing and upgrading this laptop that is going to last forever I couldn't be happier. Thanks for you video detailing this process and providing the information needed for a fellow ThinkPad'er to upgrade as well!
Would you share your experience after 6 months of using it? I've just ordered my very first T440p, planning on upgrading the RAM and adding a SSD (replacing the optical drive). The next step should be to upgrade to i7. Did you notice any major difference or the i5 should do just fine?
Unfortunately, you'll find that you cannot easily upgrade the processor, since it's soldered to the motherboard in the T440. (Unless you're pretty adept with SMD rework and a donor motherboard/CPU. Unfortunately, it's too complex of a job to be the one to learn on.) The T440P is the only one in the series with a socketed CPU (and I believe it was also the last ever T-series ThinkPad to have a socketed CPU at all.) As a side note, I've never understood the hate for the T440 trackpad, except for users who primarily use the Trackpoint (in which case the physical buttons are definitely preferable). I find its clicking mechanism to be perfectly comfortable for touchpad use, where physical buttons have no real purpose.

Are u absolutely sure you're panel wasn't 1600 x 900 previously? I say this because on ebay ads for these ips panels they state - "Please, make sure you have the same screen resolution, or replacement will not work. HD screen (1366x768) uses one channel video cable, while HD+ (1600x900) and Full HD (1920x1080) use 2-channels video cable, thus they are not compatible." Not calling u a liar :) just wanna make sure so i don't waste my money..
Technically it can, as the machines are similar physically. But, if you're running Windows, you will run into problems with the brightness controls (Unless you order an official Lenovo-FRU'ed display panel) as there seems to be a compatibility problem with the Video-BIOS driver in Windows with a third-party panel. If you run Linux, however, you will not have any problems, as Linux uses open-source drivers.
Reading the comments I think it could work, but I am a full amateur and I want to be 100% sure I buy the right screen. And I think I read that t440s would have not issues with the brightness settings? Hope some people here can confirm that this screen would work. Thanks in advance!
The issue with a lot of these screen sites are that you really don’t know which screen they will send you, other than it having the mentioned specifications. AFAIK any 30-pin eDP display will work in the 40-series without issue. T440 and T440s are basically identical so what applies to one should also apply to the other.

Samsung LTN140HL02-201 New Replacement LCD Screen for Laptop LED Full HD Matte
Thanks for your help.
JÓZSEF MIHÁLY Yes. Any 30-pin eDP display would work with this machine.
Welcome!
And Lenovo's HD + resolution is not the right choice?
What's the difference between FULL HD and HD +?
Thanks
JÓZSEF MIHÁLY FHD is 1920 x 1080, whereas HD+ is 1600 x 900. Also, I do not know of an HD+ IPS display to exist.
I've got the same set of precision screwdrivers :D
me too
did you actually change anything in the bios?
Is the t440p a 30 pin connector?
Hello!
I installed the FULL HD display, but no backlight?
Pale, almost invisible. What could be the problem?
Thanks.
You may have blown the backlight fuse on your system board
KSLTech Studios Thanks! Where do I find it on the motherboard? Would you send a photo of it? Thank you! 🤓
@@jozsefmihaly9381 You'll have to toss the board. The fuse is soldered to it. Never replace a screen when the batteries are connected.
Tell me, version with Full HD panel is it IPS or TN? Thx a lot
The panel I bought was IPS
Great video. Just upgraded hdd to crucial ssd and 4gb to 8gb of of Ram. Snagged a larger battery too.
You’ve inspired me to swap out the screen.
Is your screen still working in 2019? Any news?
ChillBro Baggins I still have the machine, and the screen is still in perfect working order. The machine doesn’t get much use nowadays though, since my primary laptop is a 15” Retina MacBook Pro.
may i know the model number of your old screen ?
Even Brightness works.
Was this a Matte or Glossy finish screen?
i just bought this screen for my t440 so far has the screen been good?, does the screen put a load on the memory or cpu?
Farhad Mirza A little bit, but it's not noticeable.
Is this the b01 or 201?
does this display work on t440s?
Yep
Are u absolutely sure you're panel wasn't 1600 x 900 previously? I say this because on ebay ads for these ips panels they state - "Please, make sure you have the same screen resolution, or replacement will not work. HD screen (1366x768) uses one channel video cable, while HD+ (1600x900) and Full HD (1920x1080) use 2-channels video cable, thus they are not compatible." Not calling u a liar :) just wanna make sure so i don't waste my money..
eViL jEsuS The panel was 1366 x 768
thnx alot for the quick reply!
does everything still work fine?
Yes, everything is in complete working order. The machine starts up flawlessly, and screen brightness controls work.
May this works in a T430?
You will need a converter kit to have such a display work on the T430 or earlier models.
Hi is there something we can do to fix brightness control issue ?
oliviaribka You will not have those issues on a 40-series machine.
what is the fru's LCD you used?
Mohammad Sholihul Nizar It was not an official Lenovo display
Where you order your screen?
how many pins are? 40 or 30
julio corona The laptop supports 30 pin eDP displays.
can this be done on a 450?
Technically it can, as the machines are similar physically. But, if you're running Windows, you will run into problems with the brightness controls (Unless you order an official Lenovo-FRU'ed display panel) as there seems to be a compatibility problem with the Video-BIOS driver in Windows with a third-party panel. If you run Linux, however, you will not have any problems, as Linux uses open-source drivers.
but I saw your video, no brightness control issues, isn't it ?
Michael Yahya I do not have any brightness control issues because I have a T440, not a T450, as OP was mentioning above.
Reading the comments I think it could work, but I am a full amateur and I want to be 100% sure I buy the right screen.
I broke my 1600x900 screen of my t440s and I think I can upgrade it with this screen.
www.replacedirect.nl/product/p0161262/140-inch-lcd-scherm-1920x1080-mat-30pin-edp-ips.html?subid=101038&prrel=9459929
Would this work? And I think I read that t440s would have not issues with the brightness settings?
Hope some people here can confirm that this screen would work.
Thanks in advance!
The issue with a lot of these screen sites are that you really don’t know which screen they will send you, other than it having the mentioned specifications. AFAIK any 30-pin eDP display will work in the 40-series without issue. T440 and T440s are basically identical so what applies to one should also apply to the other.
Can you give me? Please 🙏
will this also work with the T430?
Not exactly, as the T430 does not use eDP. You will need some sort of convertor to be able to use an eDP display with a T430 or earlier
How about t450? Is it work?
