Great vid, that old fluid looked pretty dirty and I’d recommend you changing that fluid a second time because there’s a lot of old fluid left in the transmission when you just drain it, like in the torque converted and valve body and transmission cooler. You probably changed about 35% of the transmission fluid but doing another change should get you closer to 60% which should be really good shape
Great Video Man, but another tip that might get you going is removing the pan itself and then changing the filter inside the pan as it will still hold a lot of the old oil so by removing the pan and changing the filter inside you can change about 60% of the oil in the transmission set up, with the method you are now using you will be changing approx ~30% of the old oil, another tip when you change the pan change the gasket as well and when you clean it you will find magnets that should hold old iron particles clean those as well and put them back and you are good to go.
ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS REMOVE THE FILL PLUG FIRST!!!! Before you drain...this will save you if you can't get the fill bolt loose and you've drained the pan you're sunk.
MAKE SURE YOU CAN UNSCREW FILL PLUG FIRST! I just did mine today. Only had exactly 2.0L drain out. Put 3.4L in and the shifting and behavior is So much smoother! It was a little difficult getting that plastic hose fed through the bottom of the car to the top. I also used a 15/16 3/8 short socket instead of a 15/16 wrench.
My mom is giving me her 2010 LS460 with only 48K miles. I will be doing the oil change & the ATF soon. Should I change the O-rings of the drain plugs? I will measure the amount of fluid coming of the A/T just like you did. What is the drain & fill capacity for the engine?
Hey Sam, nice video man, I just got a 07 LS just like yours and it's sitting at 150k, mine is shifting really well, I wanna do the same thing as you did, I have a few questions: Was it the first time your ATF was changed? and how many miles did it have when you changed the fluid? Did you do more ATF changes after this one? Really nice car brother!
Hey man, I changed it around 180,000 miles and this was the only time I have ever changed it in the car lifetime. The only reason I did is because it lost ATF when I changed the radiator. Lexus recommends you do not change it past 140,000 miles I believe. Definitely don’t quote me on that but it’s a steel transmission so it does not technically need to be changed. Good luck, let me know how you make out.
Drain and fill, not fluid replacement, and didn't even check the level afterwards? This is not at all how it should be done. Maybe I should film when I do mine after all
What is the best trans fluid to use on this vehicle, and where can I find? Thanks for all the amazing content! This question is for anyone that can help please.
@@walkingbyfaith77Just keep an eye on Toyota ATF WS, AISIN WARNER AW-1, ATF AW-1 OE norm. Here in Europe I've found a FEBI oil brand number 101161. It costs around $40 for 5 quarts over here. Hope this helps.
Hey man, I love your videos. Just a quick tip for the transmission fluid change/flush lexus have a special way to check for the transmission fluid level after changing Turn on the car and start shifting the gears from P R N D M ONCE IT GOT WARM UP YOU CAN EITHER USE OBD 2 SCANNER OR A LASER GUN TEMPERATURE TO CHECK THE TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE IT SHOULD BE BETWEEN 95f 108f THAN OPEN THE BOLT THERE IS BOLT UNSCREW IT AND THE EXTRA AMOUNT WILL COME OUT.
I'm doing my fluid now. Weird thing is only 1.5 qts came out of the pan😮I'm not sure how much to add at this point 🤷🏻♂️ do you know how long that hose is that you used? You said it's 3/8" right? Thanks man..i appreciate your videos .. your 460's pretty nice. You've given me some good ideas
How many miles do you have ? This will be my 2nd time servicing it. It developed a vibration at super low speeds and I’ve been told to change the fluid in the pan so I’m going to go for it, but I’m at 208k.
about to do this on my 09 IS250 2 quarts come out so imma just put 2 in and hope its good is checking the level necessary even when you know the exact amount that came out?
OP did you ever check the level properly? I'm not sure it's a good idea to just guess at how much to put in and trust you did it right. Also you already know you need exhaust system work, unfortunately, patching merely delays the real fix but gotta do what you must, that isn't even my question, which is, I thought our LS460's came from the factory with stainless steel exhaust! Either that's a lie or else somebody has replaced your exhaust system previously -
Not too sure what this comes with stock, but I have a full aftermarket exhaust. After speaking with Lexus technicians, they assured me that the transmission level would be fine from what was removed versus what was placed in. The individual I spoke with had been working on these cars for 15+ years and this was protocol for him. Thanks for your comment.😁
So I have a really thin PVC pipe that fit inside of the 3/8 tube. I stuck the PVC pipe down through the top of the engine next to the fuel lines until I saw it coming out the bottom which said the line and the rest of the way through
I’m bout to change my trans fluid out too.. is there any word on how black or discolored is too much. Obviously, you shouldn’t have metal flakes in your shit.
Hey i have a 2008 Lexus LS460 Black with yellow calipers custom exhaust tips ducktail spoiler like urs we have almost identical cars a collab and some pictures would be cool

Love how much your car makes you smile
Thank you for all your LS videos! I’m glad this job worked out just as planned! I’ve been contemplating on doing my Trans fluid change also
Most definitely! I would give it a shot if I were you!

I love your whiteboard diagram. 10/10 artist
I looked it up, the 2.5 qts is the right amount that was supposed to come out and then you put 2.5 qt in accordance with the maintenance manual

Hey man, just go to the Lexus dealership and they will provide you with Lexus transmission fluid. That’s what I used.
@@Sam_Dunn yea the only shitty thing is, the closest one to me is an hour away so I wanted to see the exact type and try and order online.

I better get some credit for helping you shop 👀
Thanks for video really helps a lot about to do this, do you have a link for the 15/16 wrench you used? Thanks
I do not, picked it up at a flea market
How I get rid off parking brake see work shop light ? Have brake fluid in the reservoir tank ! Thanks !
Why didn’t you replace the transmission filter?

i thought u had to have a scanner hooked up to check the transmission level
As of now the car is working great!
In fact it’s so easy that you don’t have to do anything. It’s LIFETIME FLUID.

Wow it would! Let’s get in touch! Do you have instagram? If so message me SamDunn_.
The Toyota WS is last century fluid, pure mineral fluid. There are better out there...full synthetic or Amsoil.
Why you make that face at 7:17
