I've spent years studying and working on jeeps....and even still every time I listen to Dennis I learn something new. I literally get taken to school every episode. So damn cool. Can't wait to get back to TX and pay a visit.
CJ-6s are cool. Ronald Regan had one on his ranch. It's still there! I believe Dennis isn't interested in CJs before 75. They're hard to get parts. He's said this a lot.
What an awesome history lesson in Scramblers. I absolutely love the 84 Scrambler Laredo in the Ice Blue with the Nutmeg brown interior. Thank you for sharing your vast knowledge of all these Scramblers Dennis. I really enjoyed and appreciate it.
Mr. Collins all I got to say is you’re remarkable man all the Jeeps that you buy I watched every video of you and your daughter and you guys have a merry Christmas and a happy new year
Dennis, Every time I watch one of your videos I think back to 1986 when I was in charge of the plant quality audits for all AMC & Jeep plants. I had a lot of jobs in my 34 years with AMC/Jeep (Service, Sales, Marketing & Engineering) and lived in three locations (Washington, DC, Atlanta, GA and Detroit). In 1986 I had an office in each of the plants and in the old Toledo plant it was in the Mather Spring Building which was opposite from the final inspection line where the Jeeps came out of the main plant. In that building they also stored all the old build records which were on pink carbonless paper (the original was what was in the glovebox or sometimes taped under the LF seat). One day we were looking for the records of a specific vehicle from 5 years prior. Even though these records were stored in boxes by build date finding a specific vehicle was an impossible task. We never did find what we were looking for but it was an interesting experience and made me appreciate later computerization. I would imagine that those records were destroyed when they tore down the plant in the mid-2000s. I don't believe that those older records were ever computerized or converted into a suitable format. Perhaps you would know better as you seem to be able to quote production volumes.
I can only strive to be half as passionate about anything as Dennis is about Jeeps...or even cars in general! It's an honor listening to your knowledge good sir, such a great YT channel
Back in the late 80s, I was working for the USDA in Spokane Washington. Our office had a Scrambler. It was light blue with a white cab. I always wondered what happened to it.
I love watching your videos. This one really brings back memories. I was very fortunate to be able to own and drive a 1982 Scrambler for 10yrs +. My youngest son was born and brought home in that jeep. I've owned 5+ jeeps since and about to take delivery of a 2022 gladiator sport s this week. If it can live up to half the feelings that I had with the scrambler I'll be very happy.
I HAVE NEVER KNOWN SO MUCH ABOUT JEEPS.. I always wanted one because of the doors come off and the top comes off .DENNIS knows his shit!! THANK YOU ...
Working as a Jeep mechanic, late 90’s, we had an elderly customer with a Scrambler. Was only used to plow his factory parking lot. Had less than 5k Miles. Dark green hardtop. Was mint. Stored in heated factory. Drove like new
These Scrambler videos are hard to watch. My 83 CJ8 Laredo was bobbed by the previous owner back in the late 90s and turned into a rock-crawler. It is mean off-road, but would be so much more valuable if it was stock.
Dennis...your knowledge of jeeps is just mind blowing. HOW do you remember all of this....AND where everything is on property? NOW....maybe you can do a vid of all of the Jeep models with a side by side of them....please..I love jeeps but don't know what LK JL etc is or meaning...Thank you for these videos...we all love them
Mine as well also the wood front bumper mine was my grandfathers he bought new so I have window stickers owners manual dealership paperwork for sale and all maintenance records only 80000 miles on it.
I'm a Scrambler fanatic. Well any CJ as far as that goes. I've had several of them. I had a black Laredo J10 as well. I mentioned on a previous video that it'd be nice to see you do a Coffee Walk on the J10 & Comanche trucks. PLEASE!!! This was a great video as always.
I would love to see a coffee walk on the J10 or 20 as well! I just sold my 77 CJ7 a bit ago and I’ve got 3 Grand Wagoneers but I’d love to get either a Scrambler or a J10 next. I love em!!
We bought our '86 Scrambler from Collins Brothers when we lived in Garland. Hauled it to Utah, drove it several years, then sold it. Loved that Jeep and now we wonder why, why why did we sell it? Would love to have another.
Great video. I’ve seen a beige Scrambler sitting in a field in Newburgh, Indiana about once a month for the past 16 years. Pretty cool vehicles. I saw a twin to my Loden Green CJ5 in you yard. 😎
I watched Barrett Jackson the other day. There was a jeep Gladiator with a Hellcat under the hood. When I saw it my first thought was thats a Collins jeep. Can u confirm or deny it. Keep up the good work.
Your knowledge of automobiles of all types is crazy impressive, had no clue you were into jeeps of all things. Subbed about a month ago, really really really enjoy your channel. 👍👍👍
I had a black Scrambler Laredo with tan roof and interior. Came with wood side boards on the bed. Loved it. One day my wife and I were cruising through a local park with the top and doors off, and some guy yells, "Get a real Jeep". He must feel pretty foolish now if he's looked at the current values of Scramblers, LOL.
I know a gent who really, really wanted a Scrambler in his youth but could not afford one back then. Years later he's a very wealthy man with a collection of cars and trucks that he commissioned to suit his tastes and sometimes his sense of humor. None of his vehicles left the factory equipped as they are today. In the late 1990s he decided he was going to have a Scrambler even if he had to have one built....So he did! He had a four door Jeep converted into what he calls a "Scrambler II" (picture the Jeep Gladiator). IF you didn't know better you might think he had managed to purchase a prototype Gladiator OR one of a Scrambler that never saw the light of day as a production vehicle. His "Scrambler II" has a five speed manual, is of course 4X4, is powered by a "robust" rebuilt AMC era 304cid engine that has been converted to fuel injection, and has both soft and hard tops. Of his "I just wanted one." vehicles the oddest may be his 4X4 Geo Metro even though the 2015 Mini he had converted into a pickup with four wheel drive that he often uses to haul feed around his farm for his cattle that looks the strangest in my humble opinion. All of his vehicles are road legal, registered and insured and he takes turns driving them with his wife.
I own a 81 scrambler inherited from my grandfather. Has 80000 miles still have original window stickers and all maintenance records, owners manual ect... grandfather bought it new. Little to no rust. Wood front bumper original. Southern ca origin.
I own a 82 base in chestnut brown metallic 😁 nutmeg interior with the t4/258 and still rockin the factory swing out tire carrier 😎 owned it for the last 17 years and counting 🤘 (for anyone curious, definitely NOT for sale lol)
At 9:43, Dennis introduces us to a California-emissions specific 1984 Scrambler Laredo color code 4C (Ice Blue) with nutmeg-colored interior. Pay very, very close attention to this particular Scrambler because it now represents what may be the finest example of any CJ-8 that exists the world over - no hyperbole/exaggeration. Approximately two weeks ago on an episode of Coffee Walk Dennis and his team unveiled this true masterpiece of restorative automotive craftsmanship to the masses. Simply jaw-dropping in the build quality and the numerous impossibly rare NOS parts that make up most of the build.
Major issue! I have a 1986 CJ Laredo,6 Cyl, AC, Automatic with Air ,and Full Roll Cage, Chrome Wheels, Chrome Grill, under hood Light, Swing away Spare Tire rack, with Hartop, Lester Steering Wheel and Grab Bar,Tachometer,Clock, Ash Tray and cig lighter option. The Bad, dropped a Rod. Should I rebuild this Engine or replace with a 1999 6 Cyl,5 Speed 4x4 Sport Model? Keep Original or Modify with new Motor?
Dennis, you didn't mention the wood rails, something unique to Scramblers. My '81 Scrambler has wood rails that seem a little different than later Scramblers. Wondering if they are original and if Jeep made changes throughout the years of production.
Hey I don’t know if you look at comments but I’ve got a 1985 scrambler Laredo automatic with under 100k original miles. Currently sandblasted ready for full frame off restore. Would sell for the right price.
What percentage of Scrambler were Laredos? I think one time you said about 20%. I have a ‘81 Scrambler SL (SLR) Color Code OM - Dark Brown Metallic, Nutmeg Accents, and Factory Air. That means that I have one of about 1600 SL, but I haven’t seen many (if any) OM - Dark Brown Metallic Scrambler Laredos. Happy to be taking it back to its original color.
I've watch a number of your jeep videos and agree with everyone that you're incredibly knowledgeable on the subject, but I don't recall you ever mentioning the 'Levi' edition of Scramblers. Back in '84 I bought a 1981 4 cyl/4 speed, blue Levi edition, complete with denim seats and soft top, hard doors, chrome grille and 'Levi" decals. Can you tell me more about this model? How rare were they? Any around these days? Thanks to anyone who has any answers.
Dennis does your friend Richard have the same knowledge as you do? Or are you the master, and he, still the student. You're an interesting history teacher.
Dennis thank you so much for this video about Jeep scrambler’s I am a fan of the original scramblers having had a 1981SL with a transplanted 304 V-8 and TorqueFlight 727 trans
This is always so cool to learn Dennis, thanks to you and the whole crew for that 👍 Whatever happened to President Ronald Reagan's Scrambler? And does Steve McQueen's family have his old tan CJ?
Love the Scramblers! How much would it approximately cost to have you restore the blue Scrambler that you are going to start restoring next week? My dad loved Jeeps and I fixed one up for him back in 2000. A 1985 Renegade. He learned to drive in a 50’s Willys. I have a soft spot for CJs! When I am ready to buy another CJ I am buying it from you.
It doesn’t always mix it good enough tho. The dispenser he’s pouring the coffee out of really doesn’t give enough pressure behind it like you get pouring it out of a pot in order to mix thick syrups and sugars well enough where the last couple drinks you get nothing but sugar and syrup. Been there, done that before many times and it ain’t pleasant!! If the man wants to stir, then let the man stir, lol
A little surprised that Dennis said the 4 cylinder models all came standard with 4.10 gears. 3.54 was the standard gear ratio with the 4 cylinder engine, 4.10s were an optional upgrade.
Had an 81 Scrambler I bought in 88 when i was in high school. Had it for 22 years. Never saw rain or snow when i owned it. Thing was in excellent condition. Sold it 10 years ago, worst mistake in my life.
No doubt Dennis is the master of jeeps i hope someday for him to build me a fresh jeep My daughter had a liberty and was fun to drive bit i really want a 1980s style (when I saw them more as a kid. I'll be honest I really don't know much about jeeps other than they are cool A/F BUT LEARNING so much from Dennis and he seems like a straight shooter and MAN does he know his stuff. I'm from the Northeast so finding a older one nevermind one that isn't rotted beyond hell is nearly impossible. BUT SOMEDAY 😉😉 I WILL OWN ONE
Lots of 97-06 Wrangler TJs out there that have that CJ look but with better driveability and you won't worry about it being rare and dinging it. Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist are full of them. Just have to be careful about frame rust. I bought a 97 about 18 months ago for offroading for $7K, has a few issues but no rust, and I'm in PA. Seen a couple ads for TJs really cheap (under $2K) at a dealer in Philly, but I suspect there are serious problems...
I thought I knew everything there was to know about jeep's, but I was mistaken cuz I never noticed the narrow track of the 81 compared to newer model years...does that apply to all jeeps, as in cj5 and cj7, as well? Also, I'd love to switch my cj7 high back seats to those low backs seen in the baseline cj8 in this vid, cuz the stock high backs just suck...
I like the way you greet every member of staff/team as though they're friends and not employees. Ty it's nice to see this instead of the usual.
I've spent years studying and working on jeeps....and even still every time I listen to Dennis I learn something new. I literally get taken to school every episode. So damn cool. Can't wait to get back to TX and pay a visit.
Dennis,no doubt that you are the master of Jeep. You make us learn and enjoy those we love Jeep with your knowledge about them. Manu thanks.
How much knowledge you have is unbelievable mr Collins
Hey Dennis! What about CJ6’s?
Had 4 of them. Loved the extra space and they didn’t do bad off-road!
Maybe a video on them?
Great idea!!! I’d love to here what Dennis knows about them as well. Super rare!!!
CJ-6s are cool. Ronald Regan had one on his ranch. It's still there! I believe Dennis isn't interested in CJs before 75. They're hard to get parts. He's said this a lot.

0:55 Dennis must’ve been saying good morning to his accountants 😂
Your yard is downright impressive sir. Love the old Jeeps!
You need to do a history of jeep. Love your knowledge. We also would like a history of how you started.
When I got my1981 scrambler in 1990 it still had the original wood box rails
Mine as well also the wood front bumper mine was my grandfathers he bought new so I have window stickers owners manual dealership paperwork for sale and all maintenance records only 80000 miles on it.
Dennis, how about using one of those nice Coffee Walk coffee cups instead of a new disposable cup every day?
Me Dennis has so much knowledge with so many vehicles
I'm a Scrambler fanatic. Well any CJ as far as that goes. I've had several of them. I had a black Laredo J10 as well. I mentioned on a previous video that it'd be nice to see you do a Coffee Walk on the J10 & Comanche trucks. PLEASE!!! This was a great video as always.

You have to show the CJ collection. For someone who grew up with these it would be maybe a once in a lifetime chance.

He has me going through my vin now. 😆
You better, CJ-8’s are rare as hens teeth
I have two of them; an '83 & an '85. The '85 came out of Venezuela & has a factory Dana 44 rear (I also have an '86 CJ-7 Laredo with the Dana 44).
50 years old and never owned a jeep ... But dam if I dont respect Dennis passion for something he loves
My '81 had the chrome below the doors, chrome bumper, gauge cluster, under the dash a/c, but it had painted grill.
Being retired military, his messed up collar is driving me nuts. LOL🤣
There is a scrambler with a plow on it growing up in Philly the funeral home uses it as a plow vehicle every year
I had a black Scrambler Laredo with tan roof and interior. Came with wood side boards on the bed. Loved it. That was my Saturday morning Jeep education class
Thank you for more Jeep gold 👍👍😍😍😍
Great walkaround, glad to own one of 4K 1984's! Very informative indeed!
i like the scramblers for sure especially the more loaded ones. soft tops are nice. one of these days like get one as long it's runs.
As always Love all the information that you give 👍
I have a 78 cj5 , cj7 a 87 long bed mj and a 90 xj.
Just bought my girlfriend a 04 tj sport
Are you going to do follow up videos of the blue/nut meg restoration?
Thank you for the History Lesson on Scramblers. I feel guilty for putting a Cammed 6.0 in our ‘82 CJ8…
…HELL NO I DON’T! 🤣
I had an 81 AMC Spirit with the 258 and the plastic blue valve cover.
U stands for Undesirable! Dennis you are a funny guy!
Jason from Maryland here
Uhh, where is this CJ collection you mentioned? Let's see that!
I bleed olive drab!
I own a 81 scrambler inherited from my grandfather. Has 80000 miles still have original window stickers and all maintenance records, owners manual ect... grandfather bought it new. Little to no rust. Wood front bumper original. Southern ca origin.
Always Fantastic Dennis!!!!
Didnt see the '84 postal edition's that Alaska had done with world cabs. I have one and see few on the net here and there.
Now I know why I can't find one or see them anymore 😭 and I know we're all the Jeeps have went
Awesome as usual. I grew up in a 77 Levi’s CJ5 304 4sp which is still my favorite Jeep. Just curious, what’s your favorite CJ?
Great content... Can't believe @Tyler didn't fix @Dennis collar! 😂
I own a 82 base in chestnut brown metallic 😁 nutmeg interior with the t4/258 and still rockin the factory swing out tire carrier 😎 owned it for the last 17 years and counting 🤘 (for anyone curious, definitely NOT for sale lol)
Im amazed at how many Jeeps you have!
Outstanding

Some day soon, I'll bring my 89 Grand Wagoneer to your shop to start an update plan
I've owned Jeep's before. But Never was crazy bout the Scramblers. I prefer the Old Models Army Jeep's and the CJ-5's are my favorite one's.
Great video. What makes a CA Scrambler so special? I have a CA delivered 83 SR but it was ordered with seemingly every option but Auto.
I have a 83 cj7 it’s running and in pretty decent condition
My kid ditched me again, so bored as fuuck!, Thx for the video Dennis!
Your a Jeep dealer. You restore all kinds of jeeps. Where's the Willy's jeeps? Early iron. You don't do those? Show me some oldies Dennis. Enjoy
Oh yea brother would LOVE that
@Dennis Collins
Pretty sure they only do CJ-5 and newer, no flat fender jeeps. But I could be wrong...
Hey I don’t know if you look at comments but I’ve got a 1985 scrambler Laredo automatic with under 100k original miles. Currently sandblasted ready for full frame off restore. Would sell for the right price.
Your button up shirt is awesome...

I like that beige 83. I’d do a full resto if I owned it. Just make it look spiffy.
You ever restore the Jeep pickup trucks?
This is always so cool to learn Dennis, thanks to you and the whole crew for that 👍
Whatever happened to President Ronald Reagan's Scrambler? And does Steve McQueen's family have his old tan CJ?
This is who I want to be when I grow up
Love the Scramblers! How much would it approximately cost to have you restore the blue Scrambler that you are going to start restoring next week? My dad loved Jeeps and I fixed one up for him back in 2000. A 1985 Renegade. He learned to drive in a 50’s Willys. I have a soft spot for CJs! Dennis, You are the Jeep Scrambler Yoda!.... Restore them.. We will!
You know, if your put your creamer in first and then the coffee, the coffee will mix it for you. Just saying. Love watching your vids!
Very knowledgeable
A little surprised that Dennis said the 4 cylinder models all came standard with 4.10 gears. 3.54 was the standard gear ratio with the 4 cylinder engine, 4.10s were an optional upgrade.
You didn't buy my 82 cj8 when I offered it. But it was highly modified.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 CONTENT DENNIS
Hi Dennis, like many others, I’m interested in you talking CJ6.....they were good enough for President Reagan
Mine's a 1983 Jamaca Beige.
He knows his jeep
Me gustaría capítulo en español gracias
I daily drove an 84 cj7 with a 1 barrel 2.5 hurricane. Great gas mileage but hated 31"s. Also had 3:55 gears. Couldn't kill it but not very much power
I live in Texas and have a 81 white with blue decals SR
Had an 81 Scrambler I bought in 88 when i was in high school. Had it for 22 years. Never saw rain or snow when i owned it. Thing was in excellent condition. Sold it 10 years ago, worst mistake in my life.
I miss stripe kits and wonderful metallic paint!
Dennis yr the eddie van halen of jeep...geez i can't even remember the color of mine half the time...lol
Why did no one tell Dennis that his collar was messed up?? That made my eye twitch the whole video! Lol
Are you gonna do an episode on the CJ6?
Never knew about the serpentine belt for CA only jeeps
david frieburger from roadkill have a 1981 jeep cj8 scrambler with v8 and atlas transfer case and a 46 cj 2a williys
Hey Dennis, do you know were there any examples of 81 cj8 with the 304? If so what kind of production numbers?
No doubt Dennis is the master of jeeps i hope someday for him to build me a fresh jeep
My daughter had a liberty and was fun to drive bit i really want a 1980s style (when I saw them more as a kid.
I'll be honest I really don't know much about jeeps other than they are cool A/F
BUT LEARNING so much from Dennis and he seems like a straight shooter and MAN does he know his stuff.
I'm from the Northeast so finding a older one nevermind one that isn't rotted beyond hell is nearly impossible.
BUT SOMEDAY 😉😉 I WILL OWN ONE
