Yes, it was for the stability, Brunelleschi was avgenius comparable to Michelangelo and Leonardo im sorry for the absence of subtitles..

wish I could visit Italy while lived in Europe..
but long time it wasn't simple.. around sixties we were strucked in opur countries and could visit only the east block members..
but I read much about Italian architecture..
