    I wanted to say thank you for this video. I've been thinking about getting an e-ink device for note taking and reading, as I think it would be great for me as a study device and help with organisation. However, I'm prone to impulse purchases, so having such in-depth reviews available is helping me a lot in being more considered with my money. 👍

    Thanks, Voji! I really liked the suspenseful music and concerned people as you shook the device 😂 I’ve been waiting to buy my first note-taking device for quite sometime and your reviews have been very educational. I decided to purchase the Note Air 2 Plus today and look forward to sharing my thoughts in the Discord channel.

    I don't get why... Why bring out yet another device so similar. Even Note Air 1 to 2 was kinda bad, considering the 1 has so much more potential with good software. Why can't they listen to the community like for example ratta. They hold back their own products. It's so sad to me :(

    • @XuQifei
      @XuQifei 2 года назад +3

      Note air 1 and 2 has at least one small but vital difference in the screen protector and stylus it comes with. Those are such a big game changer.
      The only problem I have with this plus version is that the battery was already ridiculously good 😂
      EDIT: Actually I take that back. The magnetic cover supoort is totally crucial as well. I like the direction this company is taking, in getting pragmatic utility locked down ahead of competitors, and then improving all the quality of life and feel aspects.

      It's definitely the gears turning the clock rather than the clock itself. It feels more powerful than my gf's Air 1. Definitely a lot more responsive and she does say that the battery on mine is bigger. So it'll last a lot longer. She's also jealous of me having android 11 on mine. I've barely had mine for long. I know I'm a whole year late but I can say from first impressions this feels nice.

    Loved the reaction looks to your scientific testing! Got a good chuckle.
    Hmmmm. As a SuperNote A5X user, for the first time ever I am intrigued by BOOX and their Note Air line. I always did like the look of this line but the road map and functionality of the SN A5X sold me on their product. The BOOX Note Air has always seemed to be a "jack of all trades but master of none" where note taking/organization was concerned but the SN A5X as doing the one thing well.
    Yet I am always wanting a front/backlit light. I'm very interested to see if there are any more under the hood in your follow up in-depth review!

      I just bought the note air 2 plus. I much prefer the look of the SuperNote and Remarkable 2 but what got me over the line is the ability to use onenote, onedrive, google drive integration as well other android apps. Otherwise, I may as well just use a $2 notepad and take a photo and file it via my phone.

    I almost hit the buy button some weeks ago as I thought I’d give it a go, for the second time.
    I had bought the Air 1 last year but returned it as I couldn’t get the documents I needed on the device… probably my fault rather than the device itself.
    I hesitated then decided not to buy the Air 2 +… and I’m glad I didn’t as not long after, the Amazon Kindle Scribe was announced.
    I instantly pre-ordered the Scribe as it was the device I’d been wanting Kindle to bring out for a very long time, a Kindle with a large display and, the ability to work on PDF files with a pen.
    It was the reason I didn’t buy the Remarkable 2, the inability to have my Kindle books on it, so you can imagine my delight on the Scribe being announced… just have to wait another month or two, too get my hands on it.
    My needs are simple… a larger Kindle for my books (the Kindle I have is tiny in comparison) and to be able to write up order forms, timesheets and purchase order forms on a paper like device, rather than on my iPad Pro’s glass screen.
    Plus, I’m more likely to carry the Kindle to and from work than take my much more expensive iPad Pro too…

    Nice review! This one is very tempting to me. I also like the cover color and design. However as a fairly new Nova Air owner I will have to contain myself until a Note Air 3 arrives, hopefully before Christmas. But I’m definitely upgrading to this size screen at some point since I only use it for sketching.

    Getting mine in 2 days. I've had the Kobo Elipsa for a year. Love it as an e reader but the latency for writing is a joke. Have the remarkable2 and hate that there's no backlight and adding books is a pain. Hoping this bridges the gap since I have a bunch of nook books and Kobo books that I can now read on one device.

  • @john_hind

    Yea, magnets are overrated, and orange can definitely be overdone! Should just have a friction clip that grips the wide bezel on the left side. The strap that automatically retains the pen is a good design improvement, but it should be hinged to the front flap rather than the back so it automatically gets out of the way when you open the case. Sometimes I wonder if companies ever do design reviews or usability testing these days?

    I'm posting this comment before having watched the whole video, so there's a very good chance that you end up answering my question! But at the beginning of your video you mention the only difference appears to be the larger battery and colour difference, I'm curious is the Note Air 2 magnetic for the stylus to clip on to? Perhaps this is one of the other few differences between the two if the pen magnetically attaches?
    I agree that you would think it would have more RAM, internal storage, oooor perhaps an SD Card slot? If it is going to be called the "plus" series.
    Also GoodEreader had said that it was rumoured that Boox would be dropping a few new devices soon, I was hoping it would be colour versions of their line up using the newest Kaleido 3 or Gallery 3, so if this is one of the "new" devices coming out it would be a bit of a bummer.
    Also it is absolutely not possible to keep up with Boox at this rate 😂. While the changes seem to be so slight for several of these devices, I admire their ambition to give users several options, in this case those who want a lighter blue device vs those who want a larger battery and a green device 😅 (which I suppose would be my own personal preference assuming the price is not outrageously different 😃😁😅)

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  2 года назад +5

      It's starting to be difficult to keep up with their line up, and I don't know anymore. I mean yeah, NA2+ is great, it's NA2 with a bit more battery and some regiments, such as magnetic back (magnets for the pen are the same as the Note Air 2, or they seem the same, at least), and a new color and it's pretty, and all is great. But why is it needed now, and not in Q4, as when they usually launch new devices. It's a lot, I guess is what I'm saying.
      But, that being said, great improvements and additional to the plus version.

    • @stevenprosser8813
      @stevenprosser8813 2 года назад

      @@MyDeepGuide They are certainly pumping out devices very quickly haha I 100% agree with you on that. I wasn't aware that Note Air 2 had a magnetic stylus slot, maybe it was Note 5 or Max Lumi 2 that didn't have it 🤔?
      Either way these changes are extremely slight, I don't think they justify the "plus." Maybe it should have been called Note Air 2 "Green edition" as the colour is one of the most significant changes 😅. I know your not personally a big colour eink fan at the moment, but many of us would love to see that larger screened kaleido 3 device with oncell touch for hopefully a much cheaper price than Bigme has been able to offer yet.
      I just read that this will apparently sell for $499USD vs Note Air 2 at $479USD, so at least the price change isn't too dramatic for such small variation between the two

  • @gallahant
    @gallahant Год назад

    I wonder if Onyx could place a second magnet for the pen and lose this flap from the cover. It gets in the way and is an extra step when opening the cover to use the device. Also, it would have been great if they made the cover in the same green colour as the device and not this eye sore bright orange. Even a normal grey or black felt cover would have been better. Any one knows if there are 3rd party covers for the Note Air 2 plus? Found the normal Note Air 2 for €485 locally but the Plus will cost me a lot more because i will have to forward it to a shipping company due to Onyx not shipping to my country. Guess i will go for the plain Air 2 and live with the non magnetic covers.

      Hello,
      Please don't duplicate the same message on multiple videos. That is not useful for the channel and the automatic RUclips system will flag that as spam, and you run the risk of the system automatically hiding your comments, which is probably not what you want :)

    It would be perfect if there is a model with 3700mAh and reduced 1mm thickness by removing the backlight layer.
    As I learned from the designer's webpage, the backlight adds 1mm. It would be stunning to have a 4.7mm tablet

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  2 года назад +2

      That has proved to be not such a good thing, in the case of the Remarkable 2 at least, as it is quite fragile and prone to screen failure, because of the thinness, while the 1mm thicker Note Air has proved to be a far more sturdier design and device.

    Voja, may I ask you why the Dasung Paperlike HD-FT M in-depth review was never published? I'm very interested to hear about your experience with the device, if you can talk about this. I recently got one of these and not only I find the screen super dark and unappealing, but now the device started to randomly restart by itself.
    BTW IMHO the contrast and the reflectivity of the non-backlit devices are so crucial(kind of raison d'être really) that it will be great if you could somehow measure at least the whiteness/reflectivity of the background for each device you test. Perhaps this will help keep the manufacturers focused on what really matters. I know that you you've done this for some of the devices, but it will be very useful if you could talk about this in all you reviews. Personally, it would have been very handy to know for example how Boox Mira compares to Dasung Paperlike and how they both compare to e.g. Note Air. If this is too hard and time-consuming perhaps you could at least mention your perception of the readability of the screen and how it compares to a popular device you have or something like that... Just a suggestion...

    By the way, the standard included pen is the BOOX Pen Plus.
    Judging by the colour of the shell being similar to that of the Nova Air C, I feel as though BOOX wanted to release this as the Note Air2 C, with a similar 10.3" colour display to some Bigme tablet models, but I feel as though they couldn't get what they wanted from E-ink and we're approaching a deadline, so they decided to just make it a mid-cycle refresh called the Note Air2 Plus.
    I was shocked when I saw this video in my subscription feed, but I'm glad BOOX didn't change much about this compared to the regular Note Air2 I have, so I don't need to upgrade after just a few months! Plus, I use a BOOX Pen2 Pro, which is only available in the same royal blue (?) as the Note Air, Note Air2, and Note5. With my usage patterns, I don't really need to upgrade for a bigger battery.
    I find it interesting that they even managed to add Air2 Plus branding to the back cover, whereas the Note Air2 (at least mine which was from an early production run) just had the same back cover as the original Note Air, but with 'Note Air2' prefixed where the serial number is in the corner.
    Even the firmware looks nearly identical, just a different build number (slightly older than the image pushed to my regular Note Air2) and it identifies itself as an Air2 Plus rather than a regular Air2.
    I find it interesting that they just wrote the model name all over the front of the box, instead of just adding a + sign or 'Plus' in the corner.
    Boja? Voja? Voya? I'm not sure how to spell your real name. Anyway, if you want screenshots and/or a screen recording from a regular Note Air2 for comparisons, do let me know. I would also be able to provide a top down view, but can't do it properly as I'm in the process of rebuilding my studio, though I'm able to put together a temporary setup if needed.
    (17:34) The regular Note Air and Air2 covers had thin plastic holders where the corners would crack and break off if the tablet was taken out multiple times. I have both if you want to compare, though my Air2 cover is brand new and my Air 1 cover has been used and has cracks and Sugru. Adding Sugru to the corners helps to prolong the life if the corners of the tablet holder are cracked, but I still have to not take it out often.
    Edit: According to the official sizzle reel, it seems that it runs on a faster SoC.

    The pen holding flap on the cover would be pretty annoying using the device, even if securing the pen well. The orange color shows a lot of taste, all of it BAD, for a "professional" device. Unlike most phone cases or iPad cases that stay with the device in use and protect it from a fall onto a corner, this cover would be useful primarily for transporting the tablet, only to protect the screen from scratching and the pen from being lost; it doesn't look like it would offer much protection for a corner drop impact, or work well for using the device with it attached. Perhaps MOUS could come up with a better, more protective, and useable cover. The PLUS device itself is a clear improvement in internal specs, especially the larger battery and internal storage.

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  2 года назад

      Internal specs are completely identical to the Note Air 2, apart from the larger battery.
      The pen flap wraps around nicely to the back and is held by magnets, so it's not in the way.

      Disregard. This thing is boxed up and going back. This was my first foray into these devices and it was atrocious. OneNote and its support is non-existent. Despite being logged into my corp OneNote, it would not sync in either direction. The learning curve for this device, with the current available support is longer than I'm willing to travel. This device was so quirky and the screen had such mad burn-in I could see every word I wrote on it in the 45 minutes I had it open. This thing is going back to amazon with a 1 star review. Unless you want to fumble around with this overpriced device that flickers non-stop and have no support, I'd recommend looking in another direction.

      It sounds like you expected an LCD device out of an e-ink device. It would be good to inform yourself about the technology and the devices before a purchase. That way you save yourself the time and money and ensure that you get the device you are actually looking for.

      @@MyDeepGuide Interesting assessment. Should this device have screen burn-in out of the box with 40 minutes of use? Is this device designed to flicker 3 to 4 times when I click on the screen? Is the device not supposed to sync with OneNote? Boox doesn't even have a user guide on their site for the Note Air 2 Plus. While you've chosen to be insulting and suggest one may not be informed, these are all things every potential user/buyer should expect, none of which have the slightest thing to do with an lcd device vs. an e-ink device. These are all matters of support and quality. My colleagues are using remarkables with none of these issues but being an android user I went in this direction. My device MAY indeed be the issue which would have been a reasonable response yet your chosen tact was to be assumptive and insulting.

    • @MyDeepGuide

      I'd advise you to research the following terms connected to E-Ink technology:
      1. Ghosting
      2. Full screen refresh
      Both of which are completely normal and an integral part of how an e-Ink screen functions.
      While there may be a chance that you might have a problem with your device, what you are describing strongly suggests that you are talking about ghosting (refered by you as "burn in") and automatic full screen refresh functionality (refered by you as "flickering") especially if you are using an unoptimized version of OneNote which will artificially force the screen to do full screen refresh basically on every interaction, making it functionality useless. The correct version to use is from the Boox App Store as that version of OneNote has been optimized for use on E-Ink screens, as far as I know.
      User manual is on your device, in settings above the categories, very convenient.
      Users are informed, but all of that information is contained in my actual reviews of various Boox devices, not in the unboxing videos.
      Remarkable doesn't use OneNote. Have you actually used the Notes on your device and do you have the screen refresh issue there and in the reader app or just in the unoptimized version of the OneNote?
      And lastly, you can use the manual full screen refresh command to get rid of the ghosting.

    • @gabesavarese4776
      @gabesavarese4776 2 года назад

      @@MyDeepGuide Thank you for the thoughtful response. I changed zero settings when unboxing. I had to move the menu bubble because I have bracelets that were popping the window open and close. When I mean burn-in, I mean I would be out of one-note and could continue to see what I wrote on the screen much later. I used the OneNote from the boox store and every time I clicked on the screen it shuttered and I also didn't figure out why half my writing looked gray when half was black. I took pics of the screen with the left over artifacts where on a blank note page you could still see things I had worked on earlier and boxes burnt into the screen. I've watched 30 videos and haven't seen anything like it on anyone else's screens who were reviewing Boox items. I have returned the device as defective and will order another one based on this chat. Any advice or direction on setting changes upon unboxing, I'd be all ears. I'd hate to bail as a frustrated customer when simple settings would improve the user experience. Thank you again.
