  • A common problem when picking door locks or deadbolt locks is having difficulty picking the lock in the correct direction to open the lock, but very little difficulty when picking the lock in the opposite direction. Today I'll show you an extremely useful and very inexpensive tool called a "Plug Spinner". Enjoy the video!

      But there are many methods to opening locks. This video shows only one simple technique.

    Getting a bunch of these tools - I have 10 rental properties and the renters constantly lock their keys inside the house, or the wife or boyfriend / girl friend or husband has them in their car at work and I just locked the house and can't get in. If I'm already in town and don't have my landlord key set, I have to go home and get them, or keep these in the truck and use them to open the door. I charge the renters $20 if I have to come and open the door, and doing this 3 times will pay for all this stuff !!!!! Keep making these great videos with links to new lock opening tools !!!!!! what makes the lock cylinder more difficult to pick in the correct direction? in my experience, a few styles of deadbolts rotate opposite of the bolt. does the "turn" of the inside bolt have a direct relation to the outside lock cylinder?

    • @DarkEmpathy187
      @DarkEmpathy187 2 года назад

      Murphy's Law .... for whatever reason, it will "always be easier" to pick to the lock position. In most cases you can pick it unlocked properly, but sometimes those damn things will only pick one way, which as luck would have it, is the locked position. Always have a plug spinner, and if you can afford it, don't get the plastic $10.00 special. They don't always have enough torque to spin the cylinder properly.

    +electronicsNmore - Presumably, the plug spinner can be set to spin clockwise or counterclockwise, depending on the situation. How is this done? Does one turn the knob on the back of the tool to preload a coil spring inside, then pull the trigger once the bit is inserted into the keyway?

    • @electronicsNmore

I just got robbed, I'm buying a double keyed set for 27.00 for two locks. They are probably 50% bigger that the standard #5 Master Locks I've always used. I'm also making massive strong frames for my kicked in doors, and the locks need to be intimidating too. All the best, Patrick :-)

    I never imagine I will need this video, we got an old house with 6 bedrooms, each one have an old lock with an old fancy key and on top a DEADLOCK! but not keys for any of them, but not problem, I never lock my bedroom, but today came back after driving 4 hours to find myself at 11:04 locked out of my bedroom! Now I cannot imagine where I am going to sleep if I cannot unlock this thing, plus I am afraid "somebody" is locking himself in my room, because the only way you can lock this deadbold is from inside, where is not a keyhole!
    Will you like the idead of a stranger sleeping on your bed? Since we just moved we do not have a sofa or big chair yet, first we want to repaint the whole house, okay, we do not have furniture yet, only beds and we have boxes of stuff unopened yet, also.

      If you think "the bad guys pick locks" then you're sadly mistaken. They're dumb and lazy. (That's why they're crooks.) There is nothing shown in this video that those proverbial bad guys don't already know. Besides, they're not going to bother picking a lock when it's faster to kick a door in, or smash a window. Picking locks is one of the LEAST USED methods of entry for criminals.

    You were pretty specific about clockwise turn locking the door and counterclockwise unlocking, but didn't say that it was due to the lock being on the right side of the door. If the door opens in the opposite direction, clockwise would unlock and counter would lock. Could be confusing to some without specifying direction of opening the door. Great video otherwise.

    You don't drill the keyway to allow pins to fall! Above pins are springs which can jam pretty damn quick when twisted between plug and housing! You drill the shear line, trapping the top and bottom pins respectively which allows the plug to turn.

    • @electronicsNmore
      @electronicsNmore  5 лет назад

      I've drilled out a few keyways before, never a problem. The top pins and springs fall down and out.

    Yeah I can do the same thing faster with just paper clips, But I do like that tool you made, Paper clips aren't durable and bend easily.... To much activities for one lock, It's easier to just use regular picks or paperclips, The rake technique works easy with paper clip's....

    The fastest way to drill off a lock is to place the drill bit just to the right and left of the keyhole. It will hit the screws and turn them backward and then the screws and lock fall right off. Its way faster than drilling the pins out. Of course, you need a new lock after that.....but yeah, nice video for picking.

Those are his challenging locks and a good place to start if you're looking to source a better design. If browsing his uploads, the length of the upload generally indicates the difficulty of the lock.

      No lock is thief proof. If someone wants in, they'll find a way. When the lock is too complex, they find an easier way in.. like smashing a window. Deterring a thief (with home alarm signs, or beware of Rottweiler) goes a long way.

    Drilling the shear line doesn't allow the pins to drop. And in a POS deadbolt like yours it's easier to drill for the mounting screws on either side and the deadbolt falls on the floor - no skill required. A Rytan plug spinner is my tool of choice for lock flipping after picking or bumping.

    • @electronicsNmore
      @electronicsNmore  5 лет назад +1

      Mostly correct. When you drill out the shear line, most of the pins are drilled away, but some partial upper pins/fragments can and will fall down when the twist drill is removed. Thanks for watching
