I had the great pleasure and honor to see Queen on Feb. 5, 1975 at The Agora in Columbus, Ohio...ticket # 507/1000...$3.50 in advance...$4.50 at the door ! I don't have to tell you how great the sound was.....Brian and the band were as confident and in control of their sound as any band I have ever seen...better than their records !!!!
I am 21, but last year I went to the Queen + Adam Lambert concert because my dad loves queen and my mom loves both. Coolest concert ive ever been too, and same with my dad whos turning 60. You should try to go to one since they are still sharp
I'm always so envious of every comment like that 😔 Most of the time I'm happy I was born when I was born (I'm 21), especially because I'm form Poland and times weren't colorful back in 60/70/80' with socialism. BUT, since I'm fan of many old bands, I feel like I've missed so much from creation of rock history. And Queen. God damn what I'd give to see them live in 70'! How I'm taken by them, their music, their performances is unspeakable. I'm so sad 😢
I have a gold signature BrianMay. One of the things no one ever talks about is how the strings line up almost straight to each tuner due to the triangular head stock.
I feel like short of getting Brian May himself to do this review, Jamie Humphries is the absolute best man to talk through Brian May's gear. Clearly very experienced with Brian's gear and playing and it makes for a very interesting, in-depth review.
+Jamie Witt Thank you very much!! Brian is a good friend, and I'm a huge fan.. I've had the honour of touring in his band, so I'm pretty up to speed on his gear and technique. i appreciate your comment.. Jamie
+Jamie Yo Jamie, wonderful job on the review. However, I have some questions: 1. What is the VOX emulator pedal you have (have problems deciphering what you said) and 2. Have you ever tried the Tech 21 Liverpool (which is also a VOX emulator and I own one)? How does the Tech 21 compare to the emulator you have? Thanks in advance!
RODOLFO SGRO, that’s the kind of thing I like to read. Just as owners of Rickenbacker, Gretsch, Hofner & Ludwig are easily tempted to play the Beatles catalog at first touch - and players of the Cloud Guitar are first motivated to play Prince or Sugar Ray songs - people who get a guitar such as this model in their hands are given to playing those Queen riffs. It’s always worth reading that people who might idolize Brian May would use something like this guitar for their own material.

Brian's original Red Special has to be the most unique star guitar ever. I mean, who else built the entire guitar by hand? THIS guitar sounds a bit SG-ish. That isn't an insult by any means. When I'm not playing a strat, SG is my next go to guitar. It's probably the mahogany. So cool that all the pickups can be phased in and out. Never knew that.
Thanks for the review. That's great! Wish I was born in one of those developed countries (US, EU, Canada, Australia...), that could justify the price for this wonderful guitar. Hopefully, I will sign up for "who wants to be a millionaire" or dig around for some gold chest in my backyard! - even better, make one myself like Brian did when he couldn't afford pricey ones during his time!
It's interesting that Guild would make an official copy of the red special. I've noticed that Brian has played a couple of different 12-string acoustic guitars in concert for Love of my Life. One of them was an Ovation 12 string which I've also seen Freddie play in concert for Crazy Little Thing Called Love. In more recent years when playing Love of my Life Brian has played what appears to be a Guild F-212XL which happens to be the model pictured on the album cover of Poems, Prayers & Promises by John Denver.
powertothebauer on the recording a telecaster was used all the way through to get the authentic 50's sound, live he started out with an acoustic, Freddie plays a telecaster, for the solo Brian plays a telecaster, and then he finished off with the credit special

I'm lucky enough to have a Guyton, this guitar has great sounds not just for Queen stuff...if you put it through any amp clean with neck and bridge on it sound like a Gibson 335.....
Fantastic review James! I have a Brian May by Burns of London. I have been setting it up and getting the tremolo perfect. I know it will move up to my favorite soon. The sounds of revving engines at a drag car meeting; the smell of burning rubber on bitumen or high-octane fuel vaporizing into the air; the notion of tuning a Steinway grand piano to the open strings of a Red Special guitar and not the other way around: these ideas come to me every time I hear Brian May's guitar. Sorry. I should say Sir Brian May's guitar.

I like to play the guitar.
A very cool and informative video! Thanks for your opinion on this guitar.
Hello Jamie..what was the name of that ac30 sim. pedal you used in the vid?
thanks!!
If only this was $3,000 (£2,950) I have the regular BMG Special ($900, £725) it’s an amazing guitar I love mine, but it so expensive, and I’d love to get one of these Supers
Is the cheaper version an heavy guitar like the vintage les paul? I like my guitars light and none of that full sound of american style bands. I like the Kunks or The Who sound, vesides Queen. But when i make my own songs I like Kinks sound
Thundertomate is currently not selling pedals, according to their web site.
What amp (and pedals) did you use in this video?
The sounds of revving engines at a drag car meeting; the smell of burning rubber on bitumen or high-octane fuel vaporizing into the air; the notion of tuning a Steinway grand piano to the open strings of a Red Special guitar and not the other way around: these ideas come to me every time I hear Brian May's guitar. Sorry. I should say Sir Brian May's guitar.
That is a VERY nice looking and sounding guitar.
Any idea if these will ever be available again?
:18 argggggg. you didn't bend enough. should be perfect step but it was like half step and my whole body cringes..... okay, so you don't know the licks exactly.. I get it. Just a guitar demo. But I just have that guitar part burned into my brain. If a person could get all the bad-assery of this guitar with the NECK they preferred.... oh man... then this would be a cool thing. I just know that neck and the radius would be a nightmare to play for me.
@César Rabbit I'm commenting on lots of vids! I watch vids off and on on YT and sometimes I just chime in.
Can't see the timestamp m8
Wonderful review of an awesome instrument...thank you !
Amazing review, amazing guitarist reviewing another amazing guitarist signature guitar, doesn't get better than that 😀
Queen Forever!
So answer me a question PLEASE - why do the clones all have floppy tremulos? Bri plays one with dropped D tuning and even he fights with it!
Is possible to purchase it safely from the Brian May Official Website?
Yeah, but you have to wait for a year
@@redrose-gd8fu worth it...
Is there any footage of someone else than Brian playing Red Special itself?
Yes there is, on you tube there is a at a sound check video, Roger Taylor plays it and Freddie plays Rogers drums.
@@williephimister3077 only Queen can hold the real red special😂😂😂 well now Gwilym Lee 👁👄👁
Which pedals do u use? Im gonna play that in school and i need the sound😂❤🎉
Where can I get a copy of this guitar and at what pricw?
In alternate universe where Queen didn't succeed/come together, I think Brian May would have become a guitar builder.
I can't even play guitar and I want one! :)
It's Late, a killer riff for sure.
Am I the only one bothered by the flat high E?
It looks like you are............🤔
This has a sound I have never heard before
