- European Union leaders are to discuss new sanctions on Russia at an emergency meeting later on Thursday in reaction to its attack on Ukraine, the bloc has said. At a press conference, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen blamed Russian President Vladimir Putin for "bringing war back to Europe" in an "unprecedented act of aggression … against a sovereign, independent country." "Russia's target is not only the Donbas; the target is not just Ukraine; the target is the stability of Europe and the whole of the international peace order," she said. She said new EU sanctions would be imposed on Russia's access to "key technologies and markets." The bloc would also freeze Russian assets in Europe and block Moscow's access to European financial markets,” she added. EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said the raft of sanctions to be discussed at the meeting were the "strongest, the harshest package'' ever considered.
Russian tanks have entered Ukraine in the Luhansk region as well as from Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014, Ukraine's border guard service reports. The border guard also reported one casualty from shelling on the border with Crimea, the first confirmed military death during the invasion. Earlier Ukraine said eight people had died in the shelling. Police in Ukraine have said they are distributing weapons to vetrans. Russia's Defense Ministry said its air campaign against Ukraine was not targeting cities and did not pose a threat to civilians, according to the Russian state-run RIA news agency.

I wonder how much Russia is paying mercs to help with "peacekeeping"? Think they'll accept American nationals?
No military help? The US has been strengthening Ukraine’s military with equipment to deter Russian attacks, Ukraine would fall way faster if it wasn’t for the west’s help. Russia’s economy is already weak. You’ll see the effect of the sanctions
How about Iraq, Libya, Syria, Vietnam? Who destroy those countries? Who bomb those countries??? Explain to me why one can do it and another cannot do it?? or you are just a double standard???
" He is putting the risk of the future of the Russian people" Wasn't NATO aware of putting the lives of the ordinary Libyans people at risk when they destabilized their country and overthrow Gaddafi, not excluding Iraq? Just asking, and IM NOT ABOUT TO TONGUE WRESTLE ABOUT THIS.

Ukraine made a blunder giving up its nukes.
They didn't have the launch codes as far as i'm aware, nor the infrastructure to launch them effectively. The Russians knew that and Ukraine also knew that Russia would attack them if they didn't return them.
Why. They wouldn't use them anyway.
The comedian's last statement was that he considers the production of nuclear weapons. It's not a joke, especially when it's what his neighbor asked directly for years not to do. Thank you for the global crisis, and condolences for the destroyed families. We feel terrible for the Ukrainian people's loss.
I wonder if all the brand's will step up and close their shops, stop selling their products, terminate their sponsorships in Russia?
Russia makes products that people buy?
We should not be leaving Ukrain hanging out to dry. Shame on the west. All talk for their respective domestic audiences, but no real action to protect the people of Ukrain.
If the U.S. puts boots on the ground, this world is over.

Afghanistan has no nukes.
We need to cut then from SWIFT and internet. And totally isolate them. Build a new berlin wall
Cutting them from internet is not easy and Putin would welcome it, easier to control the russian population.

Darkest hour in Europe since end of ww2?
April 5, 1992 to February 29, 1996, Bosnian Serb forces encircled Sarajevo in what would become known as the longest siege of a capital city in the history of modern warfare. Some 10,000 civilians were killed during the 44-month-long siege, mostly by snipers and shells fired from mountains above the city
Go Serbia
Serbs didnt encircle nothing, serbs lived in sarajevo and around the town, dont speak about stuff you know nothing.
Though I completely agree that what happened were and will forever be a complete tragedy, calling this “the darkest hour” is definitely not a reach. Though I do not believe lost lives should simply be numbers i feel as though they do have great visual impact to the reader so I will for the sake of this. Around 14,000 lives were lost since 2014 from the fight between Moscow and Ukraines army. I can barely fathom if this situation is to escalate, as we all know Putin (no matter what he says as I believe him to be quite the liar) would go much further than just destruction of some landmarks, he would run to ruin the whole country of Ukrainian and other neighbouring countries that use to be part of the Soviet Union to make HIS mark on history, but also to make a point to NATO.

Sanctions will do nothing to deter Russia. Actions must be made at the international level to help our Ukraine brothers and sisters! If Russia wants war, then war will come to their land.
War was already coming to their land...hence they supersedid it.
No one has threatened Russia with a potential war to date. The fears of Russian leaders are and have been unfounded in this regard. At least until now. Ukraine's independence and sovereignty have been in jeopardy for years now. Russian leaders do not want peace and definitely a border with NATO, because their internal domestic policy is offensive and aggressive. It has been proven in the past but also now.
Their leaders are looking for nothing more than conflict. I'm tired of sanctions and stuff like that. Europe, the United States, everyone has witnessed this masquerade for years, threatening sanctions and economic retaliation if something happens. Nothing concrete and now we have reached the edge of the abyss. What will happen after Putin achieves his goals in Ukraine? We are too passive in the situation that is happening right now in Ukraine, and history has taught us that passivity does not bring anything good.
