  • European Union leaders are to discuss new sanctions on Russia at an emergency meeting later on Thursday in reaction to its attack on Ukraine, the bloc has said. At a press conference, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen blamed Russian President Vladimir Putin for "bringing war back to Europe" in an "unprecedented act of aggression … against a sovereign, independent country." "Russia's target is not only the Donbas; the target is not just Ukraine; the target is the stability of Europe and the whole of the international peace order," she said. She said new EU sanctions would be imposed on Russia's access to "key technologies and markets." The bloc would also freeze Russian assets in Europe and block Moscow's access to European financial markets,” she added. EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said the raft of sanctions to be discussed at the meeting were the "strongest, the harshest package'' ever considered.
Russian tanks have entered Ukraine in the Luhansk region as well as from Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014, Ukraine's border guard service reports. The border guard also reported one casualty from shelling on the border with Crimea, the first confirmed military death during the invasion. Earlier Ukraine said eight people had died in the shelling. Police in Ukraine have said they are distributing weapons to vetrans. Russia's Defense Ministry said its air campaign against Ukraine was not targeting cities and did not pose a threat to civilians, according to the Russian state-run RIA news agency.

I have witnessed tribal clashes fought with primitive weapons, no tanks, no missiles, no mortars etc but the outcome was very catastrophic. Seeing full scale makes me shiver. During wars, the innocent are at the mercy of explosions and bullets, either targeted or strayed. Its just sad that a country feels so powerful because it has weapons that can kill us all

Once a Russian soldier takes a single step in Lithuania, Sweden will be stuck with whatever decision it made by that time. Whatever that decision will be, I wish it will be the best one for the future of Swedish people. But first and foremost, I hope Putin loses in Ukraine and that's the end of it. Unfortunately, although not impossible, Putin losing is currently not the most likely scenario.

I blame Germany for their selfish economic interest on nord stream 2. United Kingdom and United States conducted a nord stream assessment more than 6 years ago after nord stream1 and warned Germany against its energy dependent on Russia. They warned Germany that Russia will use this economic tool to its political and geostrategic advantages. Germany and France like always were gullible and ignored this warning.

Though I do not believe lost lives should simply be numbers i feel as though they do have great visual impact to the reader so I will for the sake of this. Around 14,000 lives were lost since 2014 from the fight between Moscow and Ukraines army. I can barely fathom if this situation is to escalate, as we all know Putin (no matter what he says as I believe him to be quite the liar) would go much further than just destruction of some landmarks, he would run to ruin the whole country of Ukrainian and other neighbouring countries that use to be part of the Soviet Union to make HIS mark on history, but also to make a point to NATO.
