That was really interesting, I’ve still not managed to get down to the tunnel yet but it’s great to see.. great footage too.. let’s hope it gets restored eventually 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks. I love the whole area, the walk down the old locks towards Stroud is lush. It’s full of adventure for the kids with the river, canal, woods and then onto the wetlands. I watched one of your videos the other day where you went past the pub next to the basin, did you go much further?
Any infrastructure/business added to the line would be a huge bonus towards forcing people’s arms to push forward construction. Let’s hope a politician buys some land there!
It still does have the tunnel house inn. Lord Bathurst put up the rent during covid, forcing the landlord out. He now refuses to open the pub unless the local council gives him planning permission.
As a child, the canal tunnel was one of a places to play. Please people don't go into the tunnel entrance!! It's an absolute no go. Extremely dangerous.
Except for the tunnel there are some miles of lock free canal on the eastern side. When they get to it, it should be done quickly. Water supply up there is an issue. There was mention recently of the proposal to move Severn water to the Thames which would had transited the hills via a reservoir at Sapperton and be available as a supply for the canal up there. That plan is now looking unlikely though.
In theory, it would be lovely to see the Thames & Severn Canal restored. In practice, it was a failure and would be again, for the same reasons - lack of water in the summer and too much water in the winter.
There’s more ways around that now. Years ago it was very expensive to pump water back up, now it’s not. All new (not restored) locks have pump back systems and a lot of restorations don’t have summit reservoirs because they are now fisheries. They have plenty of water on this canal and possible plans in place to use it as a water transfer route so they won’t struggle like before
@@CourtAboveTheCut Interesting that the footage was unrecoverable from the SD card. If my old Phantom 3 has a power failure (resulting in the video not being stopped and finalized properly) you can just stick a charged battery in and the drone firmware will complete the finalization. There are programs available somewhere that can be run to finalize footage in similar circumstances. Don't ask me where these days but I remember them from the days of el cheapo brushed quads and the initial stages of old age memory slips! 😜😊
@@theoztreecrasher2647 I’ve tried a couple of things I read online but nothings worked. I haven’t actually put it in the drone though, I pulled the footage from the card to the external. I might try putting it back on then
@@CourtAboveTheCut I'm not sure how you will go if you have been mucking around with the SD card contents. The non-finalized file will usually not be readable or transferable to other media. Also you need to not have overwritten the file by Formatting or recording. Let us know how you get on. Best of luck.
Great watch very interesting video, a place iam longing to visit. Thank you for sharing.
No problem, thank you for watching
Very interesting, thanks for taking the time to make it.
No problem, thanks for watching
New camera footage is brilliant 😊
It’s a marked improvement on the old camera, it’s a shame they don’t do a true 4K 360, give it a year or two and I think it’ll come
Thanks for another interesting video
No problem, thanks for watching
Great video. Really enjoyed all the information and history that you have to share.
Thanks for watching!

It will do but it’ll be the last part of the puzzle. There’s a chance that it might happen if they can get funding for the water transfer project
Nice one Steve. Informative as always. Such a fascinating Landscape.

Another very good coverage of the Sapperton Tunnel.
Thank you
Magnificent architecture; a worthy restoration project and would be superb marina potential for continued funding.

Would be good to see a video showing the other ventilation shafts. :)
I might do it in the winter when there’s less growth and less wasps, I stood on a nest whilst filming this one! 😳

Planning for what? Development of the pub or something else?

I’m amazed the gates haven’t been replaced. I didn’t go further as there was an obvious reason they were there in the first place

I haven’t seen any updates on it for a while now

You say you crashed your drone on attempt. Did you get your drone back?
Yes I had to wade in and get it, I stripped it out and dried it all out and it works fine thankfully. I lost the footage unfortunately
