    • @markrush2319
      @markrush2319 Год назад +2

      @Mombierella it all depends where you plan on renting if it is in Buenos Aires or any other large city in Argentina it shouldn't be a big problem. But you are doing yourself a huge disservice if you are not willing to do a great deal of research because it is very complicated. First of all you have to understand the money exchange system in Argentina. You can double your purchasing power by using the Blue exchange rate. Next, try and find an apartment that rents in Argentina pesos they will be much cheaper. Good luck on your travels.

    Thin walls? well... nope. If there is a signature of Buenos Aires, is it's absurdly overbuild. The older, the bulkier. Walls are 30 cm thick and with a proper window, the interior of an apartment is quite quiet. Electricity in the city is reliable, but in the interior, is like this video says. Every place is different, though, for a country so big, this is a poor generalization.
    Burocracy is annoying, lines are frequent in public services, but not in private establishments. ATMs are a nightmare during currency adjustments, but there are ways around this and are more convenient and cheap. You won't be using them much. Tango is not "everywhere". Tango is the music from Buenos Aires only, the rest of the country has a more European polka sound in the different folklore music styles. I'm surprised MATE hasn't being mentioned, as it is a dominant part of the culture. There are many ways to prepare it and if you don't like it the first time, try if from other source another time: It should taste like a tea, not bitter. Friendship is like family by culture. You can visit people in their home and be very welcome. Argentines are very close and reach out to you to emphasize emotions while telling you something and personal space can be a problem. There are plenty of options for vegetarians, pasta is really good, pizza among the best in the world, wines are super (the best winery of the world for the 3rd year in a row is in Mendoza Province), delivery works very well... from a guy that actually lives there 😊

    As argentinian I would'nt recommend Buenos Aires as a choice to retire. Crime rates are high, several traffic accidents, political unrest, overprice in everything for expats. Argentina it's a big country and offers way better options than Buenos Aires. Take in consideration places like Córdoba (specially "Valle de Punilla"), Mendoza (it's like our "napa valley" but with better quality in wines mixed with mountains and snow resorts) or any intermediate town inside Buenos Aires Province. Avoid Patagonia, t's expensive even for expats. COVID issues: currently there is a ongoing political crisis due to pandemic and Buenos Aires city it's the worst scenerio. In some towns at the rest of the country, covid cases are low in comparison with Buenos Aires. For example, I living in a town of around 120000 habitants and today we have only 14 covid cases and 3 months without any fatal casualty. Our cost of living for a couple without kids it's around 700 u$s per month.

      @@stevebbuk if you want a really peaceful and quiet residential area you should try Belgrano. If you are willing to go a little bit further from the city centre theres also Vicente Lopez and Olivos. Those 2 places are technically on the province of Buenos Aires, but are just next to the City borders. There are lots of green spaces and houses usually have big gardens. But as i said, they are mostly residential neighborhoods just like American suburbs, and they are quite more expensive than the rest of neighborhoods. Only wealthy people can afford those places, the properties cost a fortune (in comparison with the rest of the country) but im sure renting is more economical, specially for foreigners with foreign income.

You never mentioned the large number of African descendants who fought in the Argentine war for independence.
