He took the cat out to some kind of wilderness lake, opened the kennel door and just sat with it until it died. She woke up and found the euthanasia order and he was gone. She didn't even get to say goodbye to the cat so she had no closure. He probably thought he did the right thing but she was extremely upset and that proved to be a last straw.
