    WordPress will always have a place because it gives you the freedom to do anything. I think that's why it will always remain a useful tool, not because Gutenberg is a revolutionary tool. Third party page builder UI's are so much better.

    I come from an Oxygen builder background and am now fully fledged in the daily use of the Bricks builder. For me, I am happy with utilizing the bricks builder and all the environments that come with it, to name a few, Advanced themer, Bricks Extras, ACSS, Core Framework, etc. But for me, WordPress is and will always be my preferred CMS. Having said that, thanks so much Paul for your valuable videos and great insights!

    Gutenberg it was a mistake. Because is not user friendly. The menu as an absolutely chaos!
    Like I said on other video, I had to install clasic editor pulgin because final client do not understand hot it works! He need just simple tags: H1, Bold, italic, align center/left/rigt and insert a picture.

    Great insights as always Paul. Something I think worth factoring in is that FSE themes and working with core require almost a complete reset of thinking in how things should be done. I think it’s only at a stage, in general, for highly experienced WordPress professionals and developers. The same developers will most likely create their own FSE themes as, once you dig into it, it’s not that complicated. Having created both classic themes for my clients and FSE, the latter is far easier to create and manage.
    I don’t believe we will ever see the same number of FSE themes in use/statistics as the entire way of building a theme is fundamentally different. Over the long term, once the blocks get more advanced, the penny will drop with most agencies and freelancers that they don’t need to pay or have any dependencies on paid/pro themes or block collections. They don’t need to be constantly chasing their tails with updates every other day which is completely out of their control.
    I think industry/function specific plugins will thrive, but classic themes, page builders and block collections will slowly fade away as they simply will not be needed.

      From a php back-end devs perspective.
      No way, page builders will fade away with the current or near future state of WordPress and Gutenberg. Maybe if they get their shit together...
      Gutenberg is not logical to use, nor is it good enough for things that are considered basic in page builders.

      @tecologygroup Месяц назад

      @@whatamiwitnessing1003 Over the short term, from a php dev's viewpoint, that's 100% correct. But as I noted above, over the long term, say 3-5 years, they will start to fade away as they will just no longer be required and will not make sense, both commercially and technically, in most scenarios.

    Having exactly this conversation with my employer. Gutenberg is a colossal pain. More work for developers, less flexibility and ease of use for client. Other frameworks/stacks make development a breeze which is why the trend is now headless wp. And Elementor make WP fun again!

    Wordpress started as a CMS/blogging platform. Free basic themes or premium themes. Then plugins. Then, page builders. Now, WordPress is still the same. It's popular because of the ecosystem. It was easy to use, easy to give to clients. Gutenberg is a mess.

    I honestly don’t get why some people don’t like Gutenberg FSE - it has so much potential. I’m really impressed by how flexible it is, even without advanced features out of the box. You can customize virtually anything with just AI, CSS, JS, and PHP.

    Bricks all the way! I mostly build my own, elements in bricks (maybe this will change once components are out), because it helps me keep the code very slim,load assets only where needed, create an great editing experience for users that have no idea how to use breakpoints and it integegrates perfectly with acf in very complex scenarios where working with bricks conditions (which are great for most users) are a headache to use.
    I want to like Gutenberg but it's just not good.. Bricks is the only reason to use wordpress imho

      Interesting!
      How is the editing experience for the client ?
      Do you build Bricks elements (let's say a Slider of Blog Posts) and then the client use Bricks Builder (with full builder access) to inject the element in a page ??

  • @christianschneider1706
    @christianschneider1706 Месяц назад

    3 and 4 here. Switched coding themes etc to use elementor etc as theme builder, header, footer, post templates etc. Still use underscores as theme. Always always always use Wordpress core for content, classic editor, guten etc. Then your clients will be safe when the builders get broken, bankrupt etc. Just build the theme sections with another builder. This is the way I’ve done it for 15 years. I’m also a react dev and really like Wordpress and where it’s at now. Nothing to be ashamed of anymore. Except the look of the backend lol.

    Depends on client:
    If the client want a custom website I will go with - hello elementor + elementor pro + acf + rankmath/seopress + solid security
    If the client want something that is focused only blogor ecommerce not to much into editing I will go with:
    Blocksy Free/Paid + rankmath/seopress + solid security or lets add some more functionalities
    Blocksy Free/Paid + elementor pro + acf + rankmath/seopress + solid security.
    Using Hello Elementor theme we have to build the system design from scratch
    Using Blocksy theme we already have the system design.
    Here is the difference.

  • @derek-hanson
    @derek-hanson Месяц назад +3

    I do think the numbers can end up being skewed. How many hosts auto install a specific plugin or theme? How many site builders are using a plugin at such a scale that they are installing their preferred plugin at significantly higher rates.

    • @derek-hanson
      @derek-hanson Месяц назад +1

      Still a fair point that adoption has been slow. However, new users to WP getting the core experience don’t get added into the numbers but are using core. It might be a more positive trend for Gutenberg than we realize.
      I think one important point to consider is that the Gutenberg plugin affords the opportunity for testing and iteration by power users to help polish features or test cutting edge features before they get to core. This approach, in theory, means the core WP experience will be better for all, but especially new users.

      The Classic Editor plugin has 10+ million installations.
      If you are using Bricks Builder, you don't need it though. Just add 2 lines of code to your functions.php file and you'll get Classic Editor and Classic Widgets back.

    I use tools on top of the native Gutenberg editor and classic themes.
    The Gutenberg plugin is a dev plugin and shouldn't be used in production.
    FSE themes- the UI is confusing and things are hidden away, this making things hard to build and use. So I'm waiting for it to improve before adopting it and using it on my clients sites and my own

    All I know is I made a fantastic site with a great theme. I've been using that themes build layout and wordpress settings to build sites for other people. Making a few bux.
    I've tried other themes to try as well but their build layout sucks and I'm lost...
    How do I make my own building settings? So I can make proper base themes for myself to use in builds for others without having to tear apart the theme settings I like from the original?
    Hope that makes sense...

    What most people do not consider is that Wordpress pre se is not save enough for the current web standard. This is a major problem by default and I do not understand why no one is fixing it at all within the core... The block editor is a UX issue and the "FSE revolution" failed completely.
    I think Elementor is a big win for Wordpress usability even though I am not a big fan of it.

    If page builders and classic WP themes are so superior and have so many more users than Gutenberg and block WP themes, why is there so much talk about Gutenberg editor and block WP themes in recent months? Why doesn't everyone just use the classic WP theme they want, or the page builder they want and not have to use the Gutenberg editor or the block WP theme and the FSE option at all? Why is there suddenly so much noise and talk and criticism about the Gutenberg editor, which has been around for 6 years, and about block WP themes which have been around for 2 years?

    Guten**** as we know it is a mess, should be a plugin like Elementor, Divi etc or even a theme like Bricks. Even if you use a third-party your site is lumbered or hampered from the off with a page builder and site builder which is confusing to use, poor UI/UX and is always going to be on the back foot when it comes to innovation and working practices. it's nearly as bad as trying to work with WIX.
