I own this one. The last time I played it though was when it was new. I remember it being very difficult because you could not restore your HP without healing items or spells. So if the zombies hit you too much, you may want to reload. I did not have the patience for this game in 1993 but I think I could finish it now. Also, you can move and resize the windows which I remember being really cool back in the day.
I've only played a little of this myself, but it is indeed a brutally difficult game. I stumbled through a portal during the first few minutes of my latest attempt and was promptly torn apart by a Lovecraftian horror waiting on the other side! That said, the mansion appears to have the same layout for every playthrough, so one could memorize where to go and what to do in order to have the best chance of success. There's eight playable characters, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, so playing one that suits your playstyle undoubtedly helps as well. Fighting zombies appears to be unavoidable to some degree if you wish to progress and level up, but it's still a drain on your limited resources, forcing you to pick and choose your fights. There's also four inventory slots above the "Hit" prompts that will appear if you drag an item over the spot. Not sure why it's initially hidden like that, but it makes things far more manageable! In all, an intriguing title with lots of potential if you're willing to invest the time to learn its intricacies!
