    I would add to this list the Beechler ARB and the Drake David Sanborn.

    I really like that funk sax sound. Opted for a Berg Larsen 110/1 for tenor. Couldn't be happier--my neighbors probably hate my guts though. Plays really easily--was my main fear when switching from plastic mouthpieces with no baffling. Also David Sanborn was supposed to play near me soon--was excited about that--then the apocalypse happened.

    one thing I find with the bright mouthpieces. you must offset the projection with very little airflow. poor Simon have to struggle with such a small opening.

    Really great video! Love these reviews, I only wish I lived near the shop. What's your take on the darker metal mouthpieces for alto? I've just ordered a metal Gaia 2. Keep up the awesome videos guys 🙂

      @dawkesmusic  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks! We can always help by mail order so don't worry if you're not close :) The darker pieces like some of the Wanne models are interesting, it kind of depends what you're looking for of course. The idea with this video was to go to the bright, dirty, edgy end of the scale whereas the Gaia would have more depth. Thanks for checking out the videos!

    Amazing! Could you please do Beechler vs Dukoff vs Berg Larsen vs Link STM?

      Hi Tony - Doing the videos depends on having the right stock all together at the right time, we'll try!

    I have a metal mouthpiece, it's great for lead alto in a big band but not so much for things like Bach haha

    Hello uncle, thanks for the review. Whats your opinion about Beechler metal belite #7?

    • @derekakien7379
      @derekakien7379 5 лет назад

      Hi. I have a Beechler Bellite - an 8. Had it 4 years. Wanted a 7 but sold out. Love it. It is LOUD and takes a bit of controlling for the sound and brightness. I play in a Basie type big band and a bebop nine piece. No problems. I have to restrain myself to avoid blowing everybody's ears off. First heard one in Tenerife a guy playing, yes Baker Street, but the sound drifted loud and clear over a town square. A singer told me I sound like nobody else. I thought great. Or is it?

    Im surprised that Simon Bates would pick a 6 opening when it is common knowledge i thought that if you have a high baffle especially in a metal Alto mouthiece the bigger the opening the better the sound. But that being said he sounds great on all of them.

    Which alto metal mouthpieces would you recommend that has some cut and edge, say like the Vandoren V16s+, but not too extreme? Looking for big band use and would prefer metal to avoid the ebonite discoloration

      We'd suggest the Meyer Metal on Alto (bearing in mind your comments). It's got some edge but not like a chainsaw, the other option would be the Jody Jazz DV - lots of depth but loads of raw power: www.dawkes.co.uk/jodyjazz-dv-alto-saxophone-mouthpiece/019685

    These are a bit of out my price range, can you recommend the Yanagisawa mouthpieces?

    • @dawkesmusic
      @dawkesmusic  4 года назад

      Yes, they are great. Not quite as edgy or bright as any of these 3 (thus not in the video) but great for all round jazz/pop.
