    If your kirpan is already sharp and rust is forming, you can can get some warm water and put some lemon juice in and leave your Kirpan in it for a while. Then rub the Kirpan with a metal wool / sponge and done! It makes the Kirpan more shiny to. My realatives ( who keep their shastar sharp) coat there kirpan with Desi pure Ghee because if you need to do bhog, you don't have to worry about petroleum in food.

    Have you seen Jot Singh Khalsas knives and swords. Very beautiful craftmanship.

      also is the kirpan supposed to be purely ornamental or is it a working knife that you would use for daily tasks.

    Question. When it comes to the 5 Kakars, can they be anything. for example the Kirpan, can it be any sword or dagger or does it have to be a specific style or type?
    Further examples
    Kara - steel bangle (any)
    Kirpan - Sword or dagger (any or does it have to be from Punjab)
    Kanga - Wooden comb (any)
    Kechara - Cotton underwear (As long as it is cotton)
    Kesh - Unshorn hair (on the head, or does this refer to the whole body hair)

      it has to be a kirpan

    • @basicsofsikhi
      @basicsofsikhi  9 лет назад +7

      +Journaling Booknerd Kara = shoul dbe made of pure iron (sarb Loh) , Kirpan = can be from anywhere but should not be just ceremonial but sharp and strong, kanga = any wooden comb but should stay inside your turban/patka.. Kesh = uncut hair all over the body

      @basicsofsikhi  9 лет назад +6

      +Basics of Sikhi kechera = cotton underwear that is down to mid thigh at least (like shorts) and cut diagonally so it doesn't rise up too high and also it should have a drawstrong waist which is tied ,not elastic

      +Basics of SikhiVaheguru ji ka Khalsa, Vaheguru ji ki Fateh! Thank you for answering my question. I went online and went with the cold steel pendelton mini hunter, as "my" Kirpan. Because even a small Kirpan can be deadly, and I think we also have to keep that in mind (the size of the Kirpan and how potentially deadly they can be) Anyway, my next question is about the Gatra, How does one use it (By this I mean, put the Kirpan in it.). I know to some, it obvious, and a stupid question to ask. But I am American and have no local Sikhs to show me. The nearest Gurdwara is 200 miles away.

      kesh means head hair only but it is a myth that you have to keep all body hair . 100percent sure. kesh is a Sanskrit word that means hair on head. similarly dhari means hair on face and rom means body hair . no doubt at all.

    • @Ryan-jk5xn

      @@majormalfunction3757 that's nonsense. Indian's carried swords before Sikhs. Also didn't sikh gurus say degh tegh fateh? Food and weapons for everyone not only Sikhs?

      @@Ryan-jk5xn not this kirpan its only for baptised sikh the big one and other one are for non sikhs

    • @quandingle5345
      @quandingle5345 3 года назад +5

      @@Ryan-jk5xn keep a sword, not a shri sahib kirpaan. A non sikh doesn't have a sprititual connection to the shastar so they can use it for anything and if the mess up, sikhs would be punished for that aswell

      And we do. Lots of nihang Singh in Punjab carry guns now and Sikhs in USA carry some weapons or train with weapons. And yes guru gobind Singh Ji in dassam Guru Granth Sahib ji maharaj he does praise the gun more than the sword
