Anime is one of the mediums , next to literature that is, that made me cry the most over the time of consuming these forms of expression. Sometimes I wonder if the authors, directors and animators themself cried while producing such heart wrenching pieces. Thanks alot for showing, recommending and exploring alot of these together. Been kind of bing watching alot of your videos over the time your channel got reccommended by youtube.
There are some of us animators who have to go deep in order to get a believable performance in our characters. I cannot speak for all but for me it is a requirement.
It was when she promised she would tell him when she's about to die that I cried for the first time. I'm not sure why that line specifically got me but once the floodgates were opened there was no going back. When I saw him sending that text in the cafe I actually said out loud "What!? No, I'm not ready yet!" I can't believe that in a show that opens with the funeral, they still managed to gut punch me like that.
I picked the book up recently after learning it was getting an anime adaptation, and I basically cried through the whole thing. The book is incredibly beautifully written. I highly recommend anyone interested in pancreas to pick the book up.
Agreed. It's my all-time favorite Light Novel for a reason. I actually think it might just be the second-saddest story I've ever read (only beaten by one that was much shorter but hit even harder).
I originally didn't think much of this movie, just a well-written sad story. But after watching this I realised just how much I missed, how much of its depth I didn't see. This has become one of my most favourite movies. Awesome video. I always enjoy and love watching your videos. Best anime channel on RUclips.
I was 16 or something when I came to anime and was thrilled by the sincerely unmatched variety of stories and the intensity these were told, from ultra violent action adventure to hilarious sexual comedy, but what have kept my interest for the last 16 years are these small, slow paced, pretty laid, sometimes unremarkable slice of life stories, I find more satisfaction in one short season of these than in complete hundreds of episodes action series. Now I am 32 and I believe I have a pretty good understanding of the medium, its tropes and the sensibilities from where it derives. Only japanese authors are capable of making these stories interesting, even a story where such a young girl die at the end, leaving her family and friends in grief, like Your Lie In April or I Want To Eat Your Pancreas, can make the heart of the audience feel so fulfilled, somehow the idea of expected tragedy at the end can prepare us to confront the moment with courage and equanimity. These two stories I believe are derivative from the philosophy known as Mono no aware, the pathos of things, an appreciation for the ephemeral and transitory in the world, things, landmarks, life, there's no such things as permanent, everything is in a state of constant change, and the understanding and appreciation of this reality is essential for happiness and fulfillment.
I think there's something really special about these sorts of stories... If you knew that summer was ending soon, how would you spend your time? We approach school breaks or vacations in the same way we approach death; never really thinking about the end goal, but we know it's coming. Is it worth thinking about in the first place? I've never really recovered from the thought.

I hate this channel in the best possible way because I probably won’t have the time or means to explore every series you do a deep dive on but listening to your narration is a joy in itself. Japenese media doesn't encapsulate " sadness" like western media does. They don't pile the feels on for no reason. It's the celebration of life with the finality of death that forces the viewer to face the full force of the human experience. I’m not going to lie to you, for a not insubstantial portion of the movie, I was convinced Sakura was actually going to eat his pancreas. I thought she was befriending this loner cause he’d be an easy target and was trying to lure him somewhere to cut him open and eat his guts. Needless to say, that did not happen.
As a person with a half working pancreas I relate to this story a lot been to the hospital more than I can count I cried so much at the ending of the anime
Dude... you're amazing. You make me laugh unexpectedly throughout your videos and then leave me in tears at the end. You might never see this but I hope with all my heart that I'll be able to touch people with my words the same way you and others like you have touched me. Thank you so much.
I never thought I would relate with this movie but my grandma just found out she has pancreatic cancer and only has a few months left and it’s a devastating thing. I now can emotionally connect to this film more.
I would also recommend reading the Little Prince (Sakura's favourite book that she gave to Haruki). It really helps to deeply appreciate and understand Sakura's stroy, and what the two protagonists meant to each other. As well as the symbolic images during the farewell letter. It is truly a great (and short) book, that everyone should read in their life.

This video literally Came out just after I watched the movie. This couldn't be any better as I was obsessed with this movie and everything related to it. This video was awesome and fr though this movie broke my heart.
Your videos are like ads that make it impossible not to check out whatever it is you're talking about. Definitely going to read hours of the manga today!
Watched this when this came out and was looking forward to finally being able to watch this anime; I have just finished it and woah the rollercoaster of emotions which hits you despite knowing the end result was incredible. Had to come back and watch again
So i just watched this movie today and I can only say this movie was intense it was emotional and sometimes terrifying because you know what was going to happen to that girl. This movie showed us that even if you have an illness like this that you never have to give up your hope even if you know you gonna die for sure enjoy your life have fun maybe with your boyfriend - girlfriend or only your normal friends it does not matter what you are doing if you enjoy it keep doing it until you fade away in peace by your beloved ones.
I really normally dont comment on videos I often find theres not a huge point to it but..your work is seriously something else my friend I mean EVERYTHING about your videos are amazing..from the editing to the narration it's all stunning thanks for all your hard work and looking forward to the next video my friend.
Hey ho, what that trick, I liked your video but I don't want you to give up on the youtube game NOOOO, stay plzzz, your the only channel that are actually able to give me chills. Continu your excelent work!!!
That twist at the end kind of hurt my relatively positive opinions of this movie, but I still loved it regardless for giving me a heartwarming experience
Thanks for this lovely conclusion on this great story. Death is the only certainty we have, but we are totall unprepared, when he comes to visit us. Upon this ignorance of death, we continously forget to live. This movie is a remarkable reminder of this conflict.
Would love to see your thoughts on Colorful... I just watched it and it made me realize many things about myself and my anxieties for my future and relationships w my family and friends as a highschooler. It really felt like I was watching myself as the main character.. I recommend it itf you haven't seen it already
I've heard the title around but never really knew what it was and didn't seek it out because it sounds so misplaced on first hearing it. But now knowing what it's actually about I'll go look the movie and anime up. Sounds moving.
Beautiful movie! I'm new to this channel and I've thoroughly enjoyed what I've watched so far. You've got a calming voice and a strong way with words that is soothing and impactful.
This story is the most touching out of all i've watched/read, form everytime i've read the manga, and watched the anime i always end up balling my eyes out.
I just saw this movie and this is the first I've come upon you channel. Absolutely amazing video. I am only subbed to one other channel that covers animation, and you are now the second. Hope I get the privilege of seeing similar content from you.
What a beautiful cover, and an awesome video. I was waiting patiently for your next video, and I'm not disappointed. Keep up the good work and quality in your videos, you are so underrated. Wish you all the best for all of your future endeavours.
Great video again, I'm always looking forward to your uploads xD I first discovered the work in the form of a live action movie and the narrative simply blew my mind. of course then i proceeded to read the manga and was utterly delighted with the news of an anime adaptation.
I just watched the live action film after watching the anime film about year ago. I must say, I prefer the anime film because of multiple reasons. The conflicting moments felt more visceral as the animation allows shots to be focused on parts that would feel odd or claustrophobic in live action. Sakura's cartoonish smile doesn't feel unnatural in the anime adoption - which it did to me in the live action one - as both anime and the smile are meant to be cartoonish; they compliment each other. Lastly, I prefer the chronological nature of the anime more as the live action film sometimes took me out of the moment by switching to the present day and for me the present day scenes didn't add that much as I figured out most of Haruki's true feelings and inner workings while watching the anime film... But when I didn't, it hit like a speeding train by the time I was too late to figure them out myself. Having said all that, the live action film is great and I particularly liked how well Sakura's actress changed faces and expressed herself during those more somber and confrontational moments. In the end, I'm writing this comment with salt encrusted cheeks. The live action film definitely hit the spot :)
Its 1pm and I'm out here getting goosebumps just by remembering how this show hit me hard like a bitch. Thanks for this much deserved video on this particular film
I avoided this video for so long because I was afraid about the topic this video and the Anime would deal with, and finally when I could bring myself to watch it I'm in tears for the whole length of this video even though I haven't watched the movie ... it's so stupid most of society, including me, can't deal well with its own demise even though it's inevitable. Think I'll give this movie a try ... and thanks for the work once again.
I want to Eat Your Pancreas is basically the anime equivalent of the novel & movie of "A Walk to Remember." Same plot devices, character types, and tragic events and endings; a teenage boy who is very aimless in life befriends and eventually falls in love with a girl who is dying of a terminal illness.

You make such great content! If only there were more critics like you! Thank you! You draw attention to films I would not otherwise have heard about, and through your fair and thoughtful commentary, make me want to see them.
This movie remides me about clock's are ticking
Saw this movie, absolutely gorgeous.
you make me fall in love with everything you talk about
If only he'd talk about me ;)
This video literally Came out just after I watched the movie. This couldn't be any better as I was obsessed with this movie and everything related to it. This video was awesome and fr though this movie broke my heart.
Your videos are like ads that make it impossible not to check out whatever it is you're talking about. Definitely going to read hours of the manga today!
One of the most underrated channels in RUclips hands down.
Watched this when this came out and was looking forward to finally being able to watch this anime; I have just finished it and woah the rollercoaster of emotions which hits you despite knowing the end result was incredible. Had to come back and watch again
Honestly the first RUclips creator I've ever considered donating to. Love the work you do in these videos. Keep it up! I will be supporting you
I just watched the endcredits while the cover in this video played. I have to say it is a perfect fit!
Thank you for making these videos. They bring much needed quality to whole youtube.
Another brilliant entry! Thank you for this.
a simple 11 minute video made my day. Really love this channel, keep it up!
He was joking. No worries :D
I learned from this anime movie..to make a list of we want to do before we died... Because time is gold!!!
Yah....i had to subscribe and hit the bell and the bell made a sound that delivered a letter to my soul,' That channel deserved it'
That twist at the end kind of hurt my relatively positive opinions of this movie, but I still loved it regardless for giving me a heartwarming experience
It sounds like 2 (not one) boxes of tissues...good.
Beautiful movie! I'm new to this channel and I've thoroughly enjoyed what I've watched so far. You've got a calming voice and a strong way with words that is soothing and impactful.
You did a fantastic job once again. Thanks for all the hard work
Hope you keep going, all these videos are really beautiful.
Just watched it and this is the third movie to make me cry.......wow
I wouldn't have seen the after credit scene without your video
This story is the most touching out of all i've watched/read, form everytime i've read the manga, and watched the anime i always end up balling my eyes out.
Amazing video as always this anime looks so heartwarming
I just saw this movie and this is the first I've come upon you channel. Absolutely amazing video. I am only subbed to one other channel that covers animation, and you are now the second. Hope I get the privilege of seeing similar content from you.
What a beautiful cover, and an awesome video. I was waiting patiently for your next video, and I'm not disappointed. Keep up the good work and quality in your videos, you are so underrated.
Wish you all the best for all of your future endeavours.
This is a really beautiful review. Thanks for it.
amazing presentation
Thank you for making this vid after i watched this movie I immediately wanted to see you make a video about it
Great video again, I'm always looking forward to your uploads xD
I first discovered the work in the form of a live action movie and the narrative simply blew my mind. of course then i proceeded to read the manga and was utterly delighted with the news of an anime adaptation.
This review is exceptional
This was so wonderfully put together your videos just suck me right in and wont let me leave
Never a dull moment in your videos Joe
Beautiful well thought out video!
The title on this video was like a gravitational pull I genuinely couldn't _not_ click on it.
Great job. I love your channel! I seriously thought this was a Your Lie In April meme due to the title.
Seriously, thank you. More people need to experience this.
Great video, I really liked it
