Pretty much talking out of his ass at that scene. Griffith is gifted in almost all calculating talents, whether it's persuasion, tactical acumen, Sabre dueling, and definitely deception. He is, above all, a gifted liar and manipulator. What peeved him here was that not only did his deceiving bite him in the ass, not only was he losing a valued Rook (or maybe Guts is a Bishop, not a pawn though), but even losing the only person he really did consider his only true friend. Because in the lost of people Griffith has deceived, he forgets that he too is on that list.

Pity that you didn't count the part where the God Hand is trying to separate Griffith from the rest of the Band, by making a gigantic hand, and when Guts starts to fall, Griffith actually grabs his hand in order to help him. While he was resentful of Guts for leaving the group, for being indirectly responsible for his torture and his relationship with Casca, Griffith attempted to save him with no hesitation whatsoever.

Griffith is a complicated character. He was ambitious, and ruthlessly so, but was also willing and able to bring others up with him on his path to kingship. And he would have succeeded if he had just respected Guts' autonomy. In the end he valued the Swordsman more as a tool than a person, and losing control of his key asset tipped him over the edge.
Of course this is all in line with the themes of the story. Was Griffith's fall the inevitable pull of destiny, or did the machinations of higher beings push him to it? Could he have defied his fate, or only delay it? Even if he had kept his head and stuck to his plan, would the King of Midland's jealousy overcome his gratitude to Griffith in time?
Our deuteragonist is the other side of the coin from Guts (yes I consider Griffith as Berserk's secondary protagonist). Guts struggles against destiny and succeeds against overwhelming odds through willpower, dumb luck, and ridiculous durability. Griffith had the same willpower, luck, and a charisma to match Gut's prowess, but was unable to overcome his tragic fate and gave into the will of other actors (the Godhand).
This story is a masterpiece, and while I'm glad that it is continuing I also morn the loss of Miura and his vision for this story's conclusion.

At the Hill of Swords he expresses that he had only come to make sure his humanity/feelings were all gone; to which he states: "I'm free." (of humanity)

I love Griffith as a character and have always thought of the God Hands, not as Unavoidable Destiny but just as a turning point on the path that he has chosen. Griffith because of his talent and ambition has always been willing to do anything to achieve his dream, but dreams of that magnitude cannot be shared and thus Griffith must decide what he is willing to do and lose. His ideal friend is impossible to have because he desires everything, yet demands an equal as anyone below him is simply another servant, a vassal. And just like any other humans, no matter how talented or charismatic you are, you will make mistakes and Griffith bedded the princess out of frustration and anger, not love. To choose power and control over love and friendship, to make manipulative relationships instead of meaningful ones, Griffith is bound to make the same mistakes and will probably ruin himself whether Guts actually left the Band of the Hawks or not. It is just that Guts's dream of self-realization speeds that process up to 11.

Personally I’ve always been of the opinion that the Griffith we meet at the beginning of the story and the one we see after a year of being brutally tortured and worn-down by demonic voices are essentially two different people.
That kind of trauma is easily enough to flat-out BREAK a man. Not only that, but in Casca’s flashback to a younger Griffith we see him literally tearing himself apart because he cares so much about his soldiers that he would always prefer to sacrifice himself... Then, during the Eclipse, he does the exact opposite.
To me, that represents such a fundamental shift in his core motivation that he might as well almost not count as the same man anymore.

But for instance the demon child could very well represent Griffin's personally as it was shattered, then when femto was reborn into the world causing the demon child to be "healed " in some way becoming the moon child. So until we get a reason why gust,s child would attract it's soul to Griffin or vice versa and how that is even possible, I am going to assume that they are two fragments of the same person.

Those are really accurate descriptors. Now im just a casual berserk fan. I havent read the manga because i thought the animes would do the story justice or cover more than what i saw in the 90s one but i dont see Charlotte as a smart character or tactical genius but she doesnt seem so brain dead that i could just tell her anything and she'll go along with it. The thing is she's known Griffith for what a few weeks. The reader or viewer has know Griffith for way longer than she has yet those descriptors are perfectly in sync with our experiences. So this just gives me one conclusion, Griffith is only about 20%-30% genuine. Half of that percent is with Guts. The other half is split between Charlotte and Casca(Casca because of the prostitute thing and Charlotte because he has to at least share something personal to be as charming as possible).

I haven’t seen the anime, but in the manga Charlotte says no to Griffith multiple times and he goes along with it anyway. I don’t care how much she romanticizes it later, this is sexual assault. It also shows so much about Griffith’s character to me that in a moment of personal weakness (being unable to stop Guts from leaving) Griffith’s immediate reaction is to try and assert control over someone who he knows is physically weaker and who he has been able to control in the past. This video is your opinion, and I respect that, but I can not look at Griffith exploiting and raping a woman as neutral.

I would argue he is still Lawful Neutral, the entire way through the Golden Age, defining Lawful as "Strict to one's Code of Conduct" while Chaotic as "Having no Code of Conduct." As twisted as he becomes, he still works within his own rules. He cares for those close to him, and views un-useful people as stones to walk across. There are no shades between those two kinds of people in his World. Guts eventually becomes so central to his life that literally everyone else is counted as useless to him. Is him forcing himself on Casca evil? Standard Morality, yes. But to Griffith- well to that I ask another question to you. "Do you consider it an Evil Act to swat a fly?" If you answer Yes, I think I've got a brochure to a monastery you can join. If you answer no, then you know why to Griffith, there is no Evil in his actions, and since all his actions are according to his own ruleset, it makes them, in turn 'Lawful.' Not good Mind you, but Lawful. And as everything he does is to benefit himself, He's not fitting into my definition of Good as "Does things for the benefit of others with no thought to one's own reward or detriment" and evil as "Doing things to harm others, with no thought to one's own Reward or Detriment." Instead he's Neutral "Does things according with no thought to others, but only to one's own reward and detriment." AS such, none of his actions are, to me, good or evil, as he does both good and evil strictly for his own profit.

Im not entirely sure what the justification for Griffith being lawful is but to me he seems most like a true neutral at the beginning having traits of recklessness at times a displeasure for authority seeks his own freedoms is flexible and adaptable, he has no personal code just a goal. He has both traits of lawful and chaotic and far more fits the neutral good or chaotic good rather than the lawful good or lawful neutral.

He wasn't talking shit with Charlotte. He genuinely believed what he was saying and Guts was the first person he'd ever met who made him question those beliefs. Even the very night he was opening up to Charlotte, you can tell it was bothering him what he was putting Guts up to
Both Guts and Griffith came from nothing. Griffith needed a dream to get him where he wanted- guts only needed to swing his sword. A skilled man who could serve Griffith, but didn't need him to find purpose in life. It was an enigma to Griffith and a big reason why he ended up trusting and caring for guts in the way that he did

Before watching this, my guess is going to be True Neutral.
He does what he wants but always towards his own goal rather than on a whim. He follows the law if it allows him to be perceived well in the kingdom but is willing to break the law and act spontaneously if it benefits him. He isn’t good although he does some good. He isn’t evil, at least not before the eclipse but he does some evil things for his benefit and SOMETIMES to hurt others he feels has betrayed him.

I'd go with Chaotic neutral, he isn't evil nor good his actions are more like that akin to doing whatever he needs to good or bad but in the way he does it can be influncened from very good to very bad and, when gets left the band of the halks, went and ruin his own plans out of a need to control, so chaotic

So based on the last two dings it appears I was mostly in line with your thinking, being totaled at True Neutral leaning more towards Neutral Evil than Neutral Good. He is willing to do good things for his goal (kindness to Charlotte) neutral things for his goal (most of what he does) evil things for his goals (killing the queen) good things that hurt his goal (risking life to save Guts) neutral things that hurt his goal (sleeping with Charlotte) although I can’t recall any moment where he does something evil that also hurts his goal as that would require both malice and spontaneity.
Pre Eclipse I would peg him as True Neutral and after sacrificing the Band but before raping Casca he would be at True Neutral but closer to Neutral Evil than Neutral Good.

As someone who’s working through the manga rn i read Griffith as a deeply complex character - he is a psychopath in some ways - but i also think he genuinely loves guts. Like in a near literal romantic way. Theres just a lot of homo-erotic subtext between the two. Plus the whole golden age arc is a love triangle of sorts. Its why he does *that* to Cassaca. He’s a spurned lover, a shattered shell; operating on pure spite. Its both brilliant and disturbing at the same time.

RUclips decided to dredge this old piece up on me, so I'll add my two cents: I'd personally argue that good and evil are more about motivation than actions, so Griffith caring about his men and taking care of them isn't necessarily a good act. He's got one goal in life, and that's getting knighthood, and eventually his own castle. The Band of the Hawk is something he needs to achieve that goal, and him jumping to the call to engage in the dirtiest of politics with no guilt isn't something out of the blue, which strongly colors his previous actions.
Basically: Guts is the first person that Griffith saw as more than just a tool, and him not knowing how to deal with those emotions led to his downfall. So him keeping the Band of the Hawk alive is no more evil or good than a blacksmith maintaining his smithy, or an executioner executing the condemned. Now, if Griffith was more willing to engage with his men as equals instead of keeping everyone at arm's reach, he would qualify for the Good ticks, just like him not treating his men as completely expendable doesn't qualify him for evil ticks. Similarly, just because Gennon was an evil man, doesn't make Griffith killing him anything other than an act of revenge, or outright murder since the crusty old pedophile was so thoroughly defeated already.

Just loaded this up, Griffith is obviously neutral evil though, right? Evil alignments get a bad rap, you don't have to be a cartoonishly evil serial killer to play an evil character. Evil characters can just be selfish, cold, or indifferent to suffering. Griffith is obviously evil from the begining. He's kind and loyal to his friends etc., but his motivations are completely selfish and he's utterly indifferent to the suffering of "the common man". Griffith worships excelence and stoic virtue, he doesn't care about "goodness". Evil characters just have a value system that isn't aligned towards "goodness" or altruism.

To be blunt, I think Griffith journey is the one of a narcissic pervert :
Guts was is "friend", whether he like it or not, but a friend must still be under his thumb. Griffith wants to control everything and everyone above all. So when Guts decided to leave, it was the first time something went out of his control.
That's why he try to regain control with Charlotte like you said (that's also why the sex scene is not tender or gentle, it's controling, Charlotte is a tool, not a person).
What's great is when he is retreive at the end, he litteraly dream of his life if he chose to just retire and not persue his dream: he could've had Casca as his wife, Guts as a good friend and just be happy but he just through everything in his quest for power.
