How Heat Alarms Work

A heat detector is a device that detects an increase in temperature and triggers an alarm. It is typically used in a fire safety system, but can also be used to detect other temperature changes. Heat detectors work by sensing the temperature of their environment and comparing it to a predetermined threshold. When the temperature exceeds the threshold, the detector triggers an alarm. Fixed temperature detectors are set to a specific temperature, and when that temperature is reached, the alarm is triggered.
