I particularly love DCS creating wrong defaults (i.e. bind one function to both joystick, rudder and throttle, forcing me to delete all manually) as well as updates appearing to mess up my personal setups. Theres nothing 'better' than a flight after a major update and you realize your throttle is controlled by your rudder - because i know, all aircraft will have to be fixed individually.

just plugged in my Warthog. Spend to long trying to figure out why I couldn't take off. The 2nd throttle was mapped to rudder axis. fucking why?!
So true I just got an F18. Having a hell of a time setting up my. 3DX. Binds. Can’t compline been kinnilg shit with no countermeasures or afterburners lol.
Michael Novak for the axis you go into controls, axis and then select what axis you want to change on your device eg: pitch on thrust master warthog stick. Once you’ve clicked on those just move the axis around completely the it should say it’s got the axis then you click ok.
I have a problem with my warthog throttle. the left one will not sync up with the right one. If I pull them all the way back and then push forward, the left one will not go all the way to full burner. When I use the axes controls window it shows it is not traveling the full distance. I have lost the bottom third of the over all distance. Can you help me with this for I can't fly two engines aircraft because of one engine being at 70% and the other 100%. Thanks.
Cap you're one of the few who has made DCS Binding seem logical in your approach to the subject. I get it now,as a newbie i was initially terrified on my first rookie steps, however, your no-nonsense common-sense approach, delivered your information very well indeed.Really looking forward to flying my newly acquired F15 C NOW. With the Warthog HOTAS split throttle, with most of the planes but in particular the FC3 A/C, the JOY_RZ is mapped to the rudder so make sure you unbind the rudder from the throttle so you can remap it to the L engine. Chuck's Guides has a good list of key bindings for the TM Warthog that should be easily translatable to other FCS/HOTAS

I just cannot wait badly enough to get my joystick in the mail soon. Flying with a keyboard is a nightmare and you have to tap on the keys to maintain aim and tap tap tap gently enough to maintain a goo turn without blacking out or losing control.

Currently setting up the controls for the Mi-8 and it's a nightmare... for some reason the throttle axis won't map :O Good for you though, making this vid... that shows some real dedication to the viewers!

I would love to find some already done key bindings for x-56 for those planes.
Some planes come in “game” or low fidelity mode and “sim” or high fidelity mode.
Tuning the axis is how you set up the aggressiveness of your inputs. If you set the curve at a high number, you will have a lot less aggressive reaction from the aircraft when you move your stick, until you move it far enough. The end result is always the same: maximum input (full deflection, meaning when it's all the way left, or right, up or down) will have the maximum movement from the control surfaces of the aircraft. But you don't want a very aggressive control surface movement from a very small input, and that's what you are changing by curving your input vs output line (graph).
Personally I like mine not very aggressive at all for small inputs (higher number) but when I throw the stick to it's limit, then the aircraft is as aggressive as it should be.
Personal preference to each one.
If you want to learn a helicopter, for instance, small smooth inputs is the way to go, so it's easy to just up that curvature number to give yourself some stability while learning how to hover, for instance.
Awesome video step-by-step guide. I would recommend doing a flight test to take note of each control settings to see if they are suitable for you. One common issue with joysticks settings is they tend to kinda drift. Might need to do around 5 free flights to find your individual sweet spot settings. I tested mine by doing low level NOE (nape of earth) flights to really test to see if my settings suits me. Too bad they don't have a module for the AH-64D Longbow. I love flying that helo tank buster cousin of the Warthog. :D
PS if you set the mode switch on the throttle to a modifier then you can have more stuff on the throttle :)

Im just getting into this game since I got a Rift. Holy hell the learning curve. Hardest part now is taking off the headset to see the keyboard.

I use VoiceAttack store.steampowered.com/app/583010/VoiceAttack/ or voiceattack.com/ . It works by allowing you to bind your own custom voice commands to key presses using a profile that you can set up for each game/sim (or even each plane if you really want that). Such a great tool IMO, especially for complex sims like DCS. It (and TrackIR of course) allows me to get by using just my stick/throttle/rudder alone, almost never touching the keyboard. I don't use it for some timing-sensitive functions like firing cannons, missiles, trim, TDC, or pickling bombs since there is a tiny delay, nor for position-critical things like landing gear, air brakes, and flaps. But it is soooooo good for lots of secondary things like: selecting modes, selecting weapons, autopilot, ground startup/shutdown, canopy, lights, external views, screenshots, triggering video recording, re-centering TrackIR, ejecting, etc, etc. And, it doesn't matter if I don't like the default key positions, I just leave them alone and use my voice instead. Saves a fair amount of repetitive setup work on multiple aircraft too. Some day I hope to do a video on it in DCS.

I just want to know how to manually drop bombs using the keyboard. Specifically for the F-117 and the a-10 II all I’m able to do with the F-117 is use the gear and increase/decrease throttle and control direction. All I’m able to do with the A-10 II is throttle, direction, gears, and the cannon. I wanna be able to drop bombs tho…

There is a serious error @10:30 . You did not tune the axis as a slider so the throttle will be all over the place.
Why do the controls set up in the gear set up, work in training modules, but when I go to missions, kb commands and stick and throttles controls do not all work? For example "Right Shift Home for throttle idle in cold start works inn training, but not in the missions.
I'm having an issue with where my "pilot" sits in VR. It's outside the plane and I can't find how to move horizontally. Any help would be appreciated.

I got it figured out, have to start DCS first, close it. Then start in VR
So every time I save my stick commands, and reload them the next day the work I put in is screwed up. I've noticed that when you get controller setups from the DCS forums they are in multiple files, is this my issue? My file is always one file, not one file for each controller. Why can I not seem to save my command lists to a file and have them save correctly?
If it matters, I'm using a Virpil WarBRD stick, a Thrustmaster TWCS throttle, and TrackIR Pro for peripherals.
Is there a way to reduce the keyboard sensitivity?
It is too sensitive for me as 1/4 second tap on the keyboard would throw the stick to the maximum left/right/up/down.
I am ordering an ultra cheap $32 stick which might take a few days before it arrive though. Hopefully it will fix the sensitivity issue :)
I believe that if you can fly one of these sim planes with the keyboard arrows you might as well try the real stuff lol
*** Under Cheat, I bind Auto Start/Off on high fidelity aircraft , just to save time. But I still learn the proper start when I first get an aircraft.

In your PC, you have 3 Mig 29 versions: plain vanilla, S and G. Does one have to set the controls separately for the three versions or can one just set for one and then copy to the other two versions? where would you locate those files. Thank you.
Those are separate controls but you can save your controls preset and then load them in another plane. I copied my su27 controls for su27 plane and it worked.
Warthog doesn’t need deadzone ;)

I have a question on keybind saves. Lets say I keybound a free plane on a free week period. Once that period is up do I lose my keybinds on the .diff.lua file? Can I just update the .diff.lua file and not lose keybinds on a free period plane?
Hi , I may have something useful that make life easier, an Ipad app called ACTIONPAD. You can create any layout you want (MFDs for example) and simply key bind like a regular keyboard, I found it much simpler than virtual cockpit and it's not fps consuming, work perfectly with your Hotas and regular keyboard setup

New to DCS. Even after I change keyboard binding, they do not work when in the Sim. For example, the open/close canopy does not work with CTRL+C. Also, the coms panel does not work unless I press the hash key, even though it is mapped to the slash key. Any DCS exert knows how to fix that?
One reason a KB is not going to cut it. You can't even set the Up\Down keys to reset to zero. You have to physically hit down. If you're going up. Just to stop the climb. A controller returns to zero just by taking pressure off the stick. And turning is even worse. You get pitch up and roll no matter what. As it see the elevator being used. To make the turn..
So I had to buy an X56 Rhino just to play the game without crashing every 5 mins. In low level flight....
I would add. If someone thinks they got the IQ to play PVP\PVE with nothing but a KB... I want to see it.

I have a problem with DCS, it doesn't work. when it says press page up and page down to take off or use the joystick (I have a joystick) it doesn't work. I press it but nothing happens. I have the DCS world Steam edition and my joystick is extreme 3d pro. I don't think that the joystick is the problem because I already tried DCS before with keyboard and it didn't work. DCS seems like a really good game someone help me please

Love your videos. I just got a TM hotas warthog and throttle, as well as CH pro pedals. Most of the questions I have are dedicated to ease of setup...Ive been Playing DCS for a few years but low fidelity aircraft. Im sure there are forums for all this mapping stuff, but its so varied.
how does Target GUI program and CTS relate to DCS? do you have to edit everything in GUI? or do you do it directly in DCS
Is there an easy way to use pre made joystick/throttle setups?
I assume the customization of everything helps it all fit the player and his preferences. just from start to finish, Im not sure how to even get close.
I am a super noob when it comes to key binding, esp for something as complicated as Target GUI and the warthog setup. any tips, directions, pointers, links, would be great. I am afraid this is going to be a lifelong fight uphill to get everything comfortably mapped and not have huge problems with controls contradicting each other.

I have the same x56 and I'm having issues or and I'm new to this dcs. I try load my control setting and always nothing, still my throttle controls my pitch. When I click save is it only saving the throttle or stick commands and not all changes that I've made? And can you map out all your buttons on your throttle? Ie: sliding thumb button.
