I wanted to build a PC back when mining was still a thing, so when I asked how I could get a decent PC for 500€ with monitor included in the price, I was told to get a ryzen 3 2200g, since I could upgrade the gpu to say an rx 580 later and if the 4 cores are to less I can move to a different cpu. Also apu's are nice for small form factor PC's. In my market apu's are actually cheaper than your suggestion.
tbh, 384GB of RAM isn't that impressive when it comes to server stuff. It is more than most businesses will ever equip their servers with, but still not that much in terms of max capacity in today's world. Keep in mind this server is from 2009, and has more RAM than most modern servers are shipped with (although most of them are able to be upgraded with 1TB of RAM).

Modern high end servers that’s usually being powered by AMD Epyc or Intel Xeon Scalable processor are usually capable of holding up to 4-6TB of Ram and their minimum Ram is the same as Normal PCs but usually for their range, the minimum is 256GB altought you could run it by only using like 4GB
think about '80 and '90 when computer had size off a house and was 1000 times worse than a present time normal mobile phone :D They didn't even expected 1GB of RAM...

Nice! You will get about 5-10 fps! Duw to 4 shaders 15 texture packs and all that other crap. This is a serve4 meant to server. It has no gpu and a bad xeon.

Or 64 VM's with +/- 15GB and 1 core each. Or just 4 pc's with 16 Cores, 250Gb ram lol. Si. Si pueden correr 40 sesiones de Doom sin problemas. Usen de preferencia DDR3 ECC de 1333 MTs. Funcionan de maravilla con Solaris. Tambien Linux funciona bien. Pongan hasta 64 corriendo juntos, y se pueden hacer cosas realmente interesantes. Si pueden correr Crisis, pero necesitan una muy buena tarjeta de video. Lo mejor es cuando se ponen a correr Matlab para analizar adquisiciones de captura de datos de osciloscopios Tek de 33 GHz para analizar jitter de DDR para SI... Una maravilla!!!!

Chip Guy Vids it’s actually quite inefficient for the type of company that buys this kind of machine. You can get >1tb in 1u now using half the power at twice the speed. There’s no reason to keep this behemoth around.
Yay! It maybe only 50% energy efficient compared to the newer models but it is still a usable machine. Unless the annual energy bill for this one is not more than what a replacement would cost it should not be thrown out. A lot of ressources went into making this machine in the first place.
Coming to think of it, virtualization has become so much better.... they could go up to 192GB ram, but if you have google VM’s can even have 700GB ram’s !,
i wonder what a video game streaming server might look like. must be a dream super gaming machine with many video cards in SLI or crossFire? TB of ram and many many cpus? with such spec, can play games in 8k for many many years. XD
Maybe those servers be using AMD Epyc or Xeons and for GPUs: NVidia Quadros, NVidia Tesla, or Radeon Pro cards. Server CPUs usually don't play games well, unless we're talking about old Xeons from Aliexpress.
@@-.2.. Epyc is slower speed worse IPC than Xeon which matters in gaming. PCIe lanes aren't a problem as epyc has a bit more issues with that despite offering more on the chip can't be supplemented by the chipset and would run out of cpu before pcie lanes. you could do it for both, but you'd most likely use intel just for the single threaded performance beign better.
Where did you get the server and what was the result of downloading projects from BOINC? I am very curious about how many actual project processes ran and how long they each took on that server? Drop me a note when you have a chance. Thanks.
We got 60 of those servers from a large company that bought new hardware. We sold most of them to brokers. BOINC runs with 2 threads per core. On a 4x10 core machine you'll get 80 running tasks.
