IMO he felt uncomfortable about how the palace forced the crown princess position and responsibilities onto her since a young age, and -- without consulting her -- one-sidedly decided that she must have wanted to be freed from it all. He presumed that she would take the opportunity to leave as soon as the opportunity arose, and so he quickly approved of the annulment to get it over with as quickly as possible. It's kinda stupid how much posturing he did to protect his own feelings out of a complete misunderstanding of how she would react, and how he basically sulked and waited for HER to proactively beg him to get back together.
This story is soooo uncomfortable, it feels like she is pulled in each direction as if no one actually loves but are more obsessed with the idea of her. She is freaking awesome though. I’m kind of hoping she ends up with the assassin character or the second prince, since both seem to have genuine concern for her
