I heard this story many times from my father and cricket commenters but after watching this video today i realised how tough it was when no rules were made , no good quality protection were there but still batsman bravely stand on the pitch.

I have seen Westindian team in Green park , Kanpur just after 1983 world cup, their fast bowlers were heavily gym trained and they took their art extremely seriously . Even their batsmen like Richards, Gordon, Desmond had huge rippling thighs and biceps, the tiniest player Gus Logi was too having very muscular gym trained body. On the contrary, Indian players looked well fed with butter chicken and lot of rest !
During the West Indies India tour in 1983-84,I observed their (Indian players )body language closely during the practice session days before the start of the actual match in Green Park Kanpur, they were heavily under the influence of the princely mindset and expected everyone around them to treat them like real princes ,Indian players expected everyone to shower them with expensive gifts, cash, plots ........!! By the one day cricket match standards ,Indian team was having only one world class player that was Kapil Dev ,rest of them were mere Ranji level players and they did nothing absolutely nothing to elevate their game to the level.of incredibly talented and religiously dedicated Westindian players, everyone right from Indian selectors to the players of Indian team expected Kapil Dev to play iconic inning that he had played against the minnow Zimbabwe team. But this time Westindian think tank had done their homework well, they locked the brilliance of Kail Dev in an Iron cage and threw the keys in the Indian Ocean !! Sunil Gavaskar was never an oneday cricket batsman ,whatever he did during his batting on the pitch went terribly against the Indian team and hugely benefitted the opposition. All this resulted in Indian team thrashed by the mighty Westindian 6-0. I disagree with your statement and I don't blame the West Indians for that series bcoz the rules favoured unlimited short balls and beamers etc and Clive Lloyd started all this after his horrible experience and a terrible tour for the WI in 1975 just after the World Cup against Australia where the West Indians themselves were pelted with short balls and beamers by Australian pace bowlers which caused Clive to develop a mindset of spreading terror and intimidation in opposition teams to win.

yes he is mixing stuff- 1932 was bodyline series and 1952 frank worrell's west indies were given this treatment by aussies and same frank worrel used this technique against indians in 1962 series if i am not mistaken where nari contractor was injured badly and no indian were ready to face the bowling of hall and griffith where saleem durrani took it upon him and showed the west indians what indians are and what a pathan can do and as they say rest is history. again this was repeated in 1976 under clive lloyd and after that many times more.

I have seen Westindian team in Green park , Kanpur just after 1983 world cup, their fast bowlers were heavily gym trained and they took their art extremely seriously . Even their batsmen like Richards, Gordon, Desmond had huge rippling thighs and biceps, the tiniest player Gus Logi was too having very muscular gym trained body.
On the contrary, Indian players looked well fed with butter chicken and lot of rest !
Indian players are not serious
During the West Indies India tour in 1983-84,I observed their (Indian players )body language closely during the practice session days before the start of the actual match in Green Park Kanpur, they were heavily under the influence of the princely mindset and expected everyone around them to treat them like real princes ,Indian players expected everyone to shower them with expensive gifts, cash, plots ........!!
By the one day cricket match standards ,Indian team was having only one world class player that was Kapil Dev ,rest of them were mere Ranji level players and they did nothing absolutely nothing to elevate their game to the level.of incredibly talented and religiously dedicated Westindian players, everyone right from Indian selectors to the players of Indian team expected Kapil Dev to play iconic inning that he had played against the minnow Zimbabwe team. But this time Westindian think tank had done their homework well, they locked the brilliance of Kail Dev in an Iron cage and threw the keys in the Indian Ocean !!
Sunil Gavaskar was never an oneday cricket batsman ,whatever he did during his batting on the pitch went terribly against the Indian team and hugely benefitted the opposition.
All this resulted in Indian team thrashed by the mighty Westindian 6-0. During the entire series , our so-called great batsmen literally dropped their bats on the pitch before the fiery pace of Malcom Marshall, Michael Holding.....,................

Excellent informative video. I was not aware of this incident but after this video, I think Clive Loyad was not a good human being. On the other hand, I salute Shri. Anshuman Gayakwad for his fighting spirit in opposite circumstances.
That is Test cricket is all about..nothing to do with good or bad..Test cricket is all about character..
I disagree with your statement and I don't blame the West Indians for that series bcoz the rules favoured unlimited short balls and beamers etc and Clive Lloyd started all this after his horrible experience and a terrible tour for the WI in 1975 just after the World Cup against Australia where the West Indians themselves were pelted with short balls and beamers by Australian pace bowlers which caused Clive to develop a mindset of spreading terror and intimidation in opposition teams to win.

Taking inspiration from the Indian victory in previous test in port of Spain, I moved there penniless and made Trinidad my home for next 20 years. Visited Queens park oval many times.
