Bob Dylan's delivery and phrasing in songs are insane, and the imagery is so strong. Bob Dylan is an amazing singer. If you listen to him you will hear it.
No doubt. Just try to cover one of his songs and do it justice. It's a difficult prospect because he believes what he sings. You can't fake that stuff. Not really.
When you get used to his voice he's great.
scratching my head now... Bob is THE greatest singer, every single note he delivers seeps and resonates intensity, meaning, emotions, NOBODY can deliver as Bob!
I think you're right, bro. When I got Freewheeling back in that day, my neighbour said, " I can't hear what he's singing..." Jeez there's NEVER been anyone singing WORDS so clearly. Never dropped a final consonant in his life, I'd bet.
Dylan can play piano fantastically!!!! He plays with emotion the same as he sings. No one can compare to DYLAN.
I absolutely love Bob Dylan. So many memories
He goes deep, doesn't he? You can like him or not and if you don't like him it's understandable, I can see that. But if you like him, as I do, he goes Depp, so deep into your should, beyond any possible imagination. That's how I like him.
Soul for should and deep for Depp of course...lol.
Here’s my favorite singer and the very best lyricist. Of. All. Time.
I get to see him tomorrow night for my 57th time. His words have helped me through LIFE.
Dylan is playing the piano and I think Mark Knopfler is playing the guitar.
Unmistakable
I don't know if Knopfler ever harmonizes with Dylan on any songs but Mark and Tom Petty have the perfect male voices to harmonize with Dylan.
Question Please, Isn't Mick Taylor part of the mix?
Exactly. Mark plays a 12 string guitar.
My life is more fufilled having dylan share his incredible talent with us all. What an incredible, incredible talent, we will never see his like again
So good 🎉
Great poèt Bob
One of my favorite Dylan songs, maybe even THE favorite. Him and Mark Knopfler together were a match made in heaven.
of all the people doing this your are the best.
bob dylan - pretty saro, dylan voice is magestic ... Best ever...
Amazing
Bob has as many different voices as words in his songs. Each time he sings is as different as his mood. Beautiful , love this man....
That's Mark Knopfler playing the acoustic 12-string and Dylan on piano
Sung in 1983 Dylan left it off of his album infidels a classic tale of Dylan leaving the cutting room floor filled with gems. Dylan is a on the piano and Mark Knopfler is on the guitar Knopfler played on the entire album of infidels.
This song was just too damn good to even put on one of his epic Lps. Nothing was left on any floor it was in his back pocket the whole time .
This song along with Foot of Pride would have made Infidels a classic, but instead we got that clunker, Neighbourhood Bully!
With Mark in the studio, perhaps this song felt "too mark" to keep on the album, or record further. Bob said he'd never completed it. Or did they, just here in this demo?
Also, with Mark in the studio, perhaps they were being too productive to drop only a couple songs for the album. Might have gone for a double 😀
He seems amazing here vocally because he's amazing vocally.
Dylan is actually on piano on this track… great song and great reaction!
I think you would enjoy "one more cup of coffee" by Dylan, love his singing on that one@
Yes indeed 👍🏽 the opening line he sings like a Cantor in a Synagogue 🕍.
One of my Dylan favorites. Along with this. And "Days of 49"
Dylan had the rare ability to apply masterful poetry successfully to music, a rare talent among men or women
Dylan’s voice was perfect for the genre he sang. This song is one of his best but there are many others.
Which of the several genres would you be referring to Country, Rock, Blues, Gospel, Folk for fks sake the dudes won a Grammy in just about every category of popular music he applied himself to .
@@classygary how would you know? You're just No One 😂
Hi Harri been to a few times with Bob he came to Cairns North Queensland and couldn’t believe he came here icing on the cake he sang She Belongs to me my favourite song
I have always loved Dylan’s voice. If everyone sounded like Barbara Streisand (who I love), it would be a boring place. Great reaction Harri ✌️
I love that Uncle Phil
I agree. He has a great voice.
DITTO.
Bob's voice is an important part of what makes him great. I can't imagine him singing any other way.
Love Bob Dylan
Dylan is a poet second to none.
The master plying his magic, he is just the most amazing live artist ever, his delivery is just unique, same song, different delivery time and time again... no one comes close..
As someone said: Dylan can't sing, but gee I wish I couldn't sing like that.
Nice one.....
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I thought i had heard all of Bob's song's but the last few songs you have payed I have never heard I'am amazed.
I like that you have "finally" come to appreciate Dylan's voice, one of many of his amazing interpretive voices. You must look further into his catalogue to gain the full measure of what I'm saying. There are literally thousands of variations of phrasing, vocal registers, intensities, atmospheres, that you can dig into from official releases, studio sessions, demos, sound checks, and live performance. He is not only the greatest lyricist, but the best singer, in an exemplary career of bottomless creativity. And still going.
Dylan, sings anyway he wants! I have seen him in concert.
Dylan was one of the original punks. Cause being a punk isn't about punk music. Punk gets associated with bad guitar players and straight ahead rock music and all that. But that's not what being a punk is all about. Punk is an attitude of not caring what anyone may say. If you're true to yourself and honest and willing to express yourself and then the rest of the world be damned you're a punk. And Dylan was always that way throughout every version of him. And the honesty in his voice shines through all that. Be yourself and don't care what the others say. That's the whole point. It's a way of looking at the world. Not a music genre.
Grew up listening to Dylan cause of Dad
I have been a fan of Dylan for yrs and he's my favorite musician. He's very independent and can sing well if he feels like it! Lol. He changed my life with his music especially his protest songs. The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carol did it for me and Masters of War!!
Bob Dylan, is a great Folk singer! The greatest songwriter of all time. He's written song's for so many people, Johnny Cash, Elvis and on down the line. Great Poetry too! Dylan has a distinct voice, as soon as you here that first sound or, note you know it's Dylan. I've always loved Bob Dylan every since I discovered him. Dylan is around 80 years young now, still doing it, most all his buddies have all passed on! I know he misses them all, God bless Bob Dylan, I love him and, so glad he's still around!
I'm proud to say that I've listened to and loved Bob Dylan from his very beginning in the early 60s. My all time favorite, bar none. ❤️🎶🎵
He is simply the best singer in the Word. Because he is so expressive, that even when he pauses he manages to give it emphasis and depth. Then the phrasing. Let's be clear, there are singers with better, fantastic voices, but Dylan when he gets the right piece, as in this case, does not rival him. He outclasses everyone on this planet. .)
"Nashville Skyline" album had great songs with Dylan's singing.
One of my personal favourites from Bob Dylan. Dylan's voice is entrancing, mesmerising.
I love Dylan's unmistakable voice. If you've never heard "Lay Lady Lay" he seems to try and find a more commercial sound and he pulls that off as well. Worth a listen
Great example 👍
This is a song that Dylan really felt.
Tears of rage is what this does
Greatest out take ever
In my opinion, this is one of the best songs, as well as "Senor", "If you see her say hello" and others. Many don't like his voice, nasal and now hoarse, but no one can doubt that he can sing. The producers had already noticed this in October '61 when at the Folk Song Festival he performed a modified cover of the traditional "The girl I left Behind", sung as a perfect blues lament.
Brilliant is Bob
Winner of Nobel award for Literature
Great reaction.again..
Try Hollis Brown..
Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts..
.
Another song which is right off the bats. a shot to the kishkees.Willie McTell.
HIGH HARRI.... I have several times suggested you do Bob Dylan-"It's Alright Ma, I'm Only Bleeding"....Live. Not just a song, a lesson on life itself. Lyrics like nobody else has ever written. It Is A MUST for you..... It will "Blow You Away"....Thank You
Whoever thinks Dylan cant sing is not curious to dig deeper, unsophisticated musically or a novice appreciating creativity.
yes , no doubt
@@bboyz5713 B ob who ? :D
I've never hurd any one say bob dylan can't sing
Closed minded.
It’s so funny. There are two kinds of people. People who think Bob Dylan can’t sing. And people who do. I wonder what he would think of Sarah Carter.
i'd like to see you reacting to "dirge", "i threw it all away", "pretty saro", "man in the long black coat"
this are some other songs that bob change his "normal" voice to sing
Pretty Saro is wonderful.
Harry you must listen to murder most foul by this great man.
Seconded sir.✌🏻
It's a masterpiece.
Another feather in your cap, Q. And Guvnor, I agree, this is Bob's singing at its best.
I'll listen to anything he sings.
In my opinion, Dylan's best singing was on Blood On The Tracks album.
Desire
Both of these… definitely top 2
Blood On The Tracks is flawless.
Meet Me In The Morning
Also New Morning!!
Thank you. You are right.
Plus he's greatest of all time!!!!
One of the most haunting songs DYLAN has done , please have a listen to every grain of sand. When you get into Bob Dylan you really go deep in the meaning of his lyrics. I'm a huge fan in fact a bit obsessive. Blind Willie Mac tell and every grain of sand two songs that bring a lump to my throat, Dylan's harmonica playing in every grain of sand is insane. For me Bob Dylan is one of the best singers in the world.
Ive been listening to Dylan all my life. LIstening with you is like hearing his songs for the first time. Thank you Harri.
Check out Statesboro Blues by the Allman Brothers Band. Song was written by Blind Willie McTell. I happen to go to college in a town called Statesboro in Georgia. Willie lived there at one point in his life.
It is a beautiful song.
To anyone who thinks he/she can't sing, I say Bob Dylan freed us all. His voice blazes new trails just like his lyrics. However you sound, just let it rip! In his way, he's a very fine singer. This song is exhibit one. Well.....maybe exhibit one thousand.
It's all about uniqueness and art. You look for the beauty and find it in the individuality of style! And expression of art!
I'm loving your channel. Thank you!
Never realised that Mark Knopfler actually co-produced this version, and did the acoustic guitar lol
I’ve always thought this was such a beautiful song. I remember the first time I ever heard it. It was an outtake from one of his early ‘80s albums, I think, and from the first I was wondering how you could ever leave this off of any album? I can hear the reason, “It doesn’t fit the rest of the music.” True enough. It’s much better than what was left on!
Diamonds and rubies in my ears I love that.
Every time I hear this, in whatever version, is like listening afresh. Your take is good, bro, but there are so many examples of Bob 'singing' that I feel on this you kind of faintly praise. I sing and I sing quite a few Dylan songs. The range of his voice , tho, is beyond mine. I think Bob's playing piano on this, btw. There's a 12 string guitar backing up with simple but devastating riff. Dylan's phrasing completely changes on alternative versions too, so that's why I said what I did at the start of this comment. Your last comment is so great! Back in the day, there was an ad (currently it's called a meme I think) from CBS records: Nobody Sings Dylan Like Dylan. Stay well, man and keep listening to the man.
You are the man! I did enjoy myself! Subscribed my friend
The melody for this song is taken from parts of Louis Armstrong’s version of St. James Infirmary. Which fits all the Southern themes in the words. You could give that one a listen.
I really like this song.
I became aware of it when I heard The Band play it.
I incorporated it into my set list when I play solo.
Bob Dylan on piano and Mark Knopfler on guitar.
Love this always love bob
Spectacular!!!
bob on piano, mark knopfler of dire straights and co producer on guitar...the electric version...tell tale signs, bootleg series is good too...the amazing songs left off infidels l.p. 1983 and shot of love 1981 is amazing and makes one question bob track selections...luckily we all have the bootleg series acess, (where above came from)...and personally i have at least 2000 shows etc....enjoyed this. one love cheers peace
Nashville Skyline Rag: Tonight Ill Be Staying With You-
Lady Lady Lady
Dylan’s a five star singer for sure. Not many can convey the lyrics thru voice like Dylan can. MTV Unplugged, Highway 61 etc etc etc… too many folks go for the cookie cutter fluff . Dylans voice and musicianship is totally underrated. Ill Keep It With Mine….bootleg and Biography
This is Dylan, middle age instead of the young phenom, at the piano and he didn't put it on an album for whatever the reason (piano maybe?? haha) That's just a small sample of the greatness of the man, he's now 80 years old, still performing and creating, I'm a big fan of his and yours Harri, keep up the good work.
Many brilliant songs Dylan haven't been prominent. Fifteen or more back albums you've still to catch up on!
@@rozkendall9719 I wish I had 15 or more of Dylan's albums to still catch up on, but I've bought at least 40 or 50 albums or cd's of his already...all good and brilliant as you say. My first 45 (or anything else) was "Like a Rolling Stone" I was mesmerized, played it over and over...been a fan ever since. You are right Brilliant and absolutely UNIQUE
Chip Jones, agree 100% The greatest composer of the 20th century !
I always speculated that, because the song borrows much from Saint James Infirmary, he might have felt a little sheepish about taking composer's credit. Maybe not, though. Dylan has always used the "folk process' effectively.
Yes. Listen to One More Cup of Coffee for another killer vocal. My guess is Dylan played keys on McTell
Bob Dylan is the Picasso of music. Look up Picasso and see the early to later changes and new ways to see. Dylan does that in music. Two great creators.
Ohhh, its one of his best. Divine. I remember the 1st time I heard it, looong ago.
I would bet that it's Bob Dylan on the piano. He's doing piano in his tours for the last 10years? maybe ☯️✌
Your reactions help me to appreciate this music with more depth, more meaning. Thank you.
My mother LOVED Bob Dylan. My dad LOVES Santana. I was lucky enough to see both of these LEGENDS together for the first time. EPIC!!!!!!
I saw both Dylan’s/Santana Summer Tour in
1994/1995 in Charlotte at an outside Venue by the Racetrack in Concord, NC (outside of Charlotte) Fun Times and a Great Show
Dylan and Santana ...must have been the 1984 European tour))
@@carstenhackel6743 I saw them outside of Charlotte NC in late Sumner of 1995/1996 or so
There were some periods of time when Dylan's voice was pleasant. And he always hit the note...didn't go flat. According to one source I've read, during the time "Nashville Skyline" was recorded, in which his voice is hauntingly beautiful, he had quit smoking cigarettes. Of course, it's also said that if "Nashville Skyline" is your favorite Dylan album, then you're no fan of Dylan.
One of my favorite vocal performances from Dylan, in regards to his actual singing ability, is the song Corinna, Corinna from his The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan album from 1963. It's my go-to choice when I encounter people who dismiss him altogether because they claim he can't sing. Corrina, Corrina is an old country blues tune that hails from the late 1920s. Dylan's performance of it is smooth and comforting.
Bob Dylan is an excellent singer. And you always know he’s singing you the truth. You have to hear the bootleg vol. 16 version of this. It rocks
I love the interview in Don’t Look Back where he says he’s just as good as these world reknown singers, and he says with a crooked smile, If you listen very closely he hits all the notes.
Bob can sing any style he wants.
His singing is original and very compelling. People how dismiss him because of the voice are losing a lot out of life. Donald Fagen of Steely Dan is another that if you listen carefully is a fine singer, and he gets dissed alot also.
Really is one of the great 'hidden' recordings - it just gets more and more powerful as the song progresses - there are a few real great blues songs from Dylan from the 70's onwards that get ignored. For more great Dylan songs that you never hear , try I and I from Infidels and Where Are You Tonight and Changing of the Guards from Streetlegal
Read what Bono wrote about Dylan’s voice for Rolling Stone a number of years ago. Then listen to some of the tunes on Blood On The Tracks - Shelter From the Storm, or Buckets of Rain, or any of them. (And be surprised by his voice on Lay Lady Lay, from Nashville Skyline). Always appreciate your reactions. Thanks
Fantastic! Yet my favorite singing of Bob Dylan I find in Lay Lady Lay
Nice! Great song. Thanks for sharing
HarriBest dude, love that you appreciate the singing here. And Dylan played the piano, Mark Knopfler on guitar, the best take for this song. Keep listening and reacting and keep these beautiful songs alive.
Take a poll of Dylan fans and this song usually rates #1 and I could make a strong case for at least 30 of his others.
Dylan’s a great singer when he wants to be. You should check out some of his Gospel records. Gotta Serve Somebody etc. On this track you’re reacting to Dylan is on piano and Mark Knoffler is on guitar. Great stuff.
I won't say for sure, but I think Bob is playing the piano here too
Very much the melody to St. James Infirmary. Makes references to the song in his lyrics.
Cold Irons Bound is a pretty good Dylan song .
Harri, I love your attention to detail. Your enthusiasm is beautiful brother.❤
love the reaction harri and song! "CORRINA" "CORRINA" for reaction. ; )
Between Dylan and the Beatles. So much to learn. Steven Stills. Jim Morrison. Seger
I’m a little late to say so, but if this is the first you’ve noticed Dylan’s vocal control, his ability to sing, you should listen carefully again, starting at the beginning.
Bob Playing Piano here, he normally does on his “Un-Released”, Outtakes Songs before they get refined
