It is so nice to have you back. I missed your reactions. You are so good at it. I love this song too. And Floor is not going anywhere. Tuomas said that if Floor leaves there is no more Nightwish. @@psbarrow Yeah, in another interview a Dutch interviewer tried tempting her with the fact that after Beste Zangers she had the world (especially the Dutch world) at her feet. The look on Floor's face made it sort of feel to me, that she seemed to interpret this as sort of "You could leave that metal world now and be a huge mainstream star if you want". Floor made it QUITE clear that you'd have to drag her away kicking and screaming! :D
"i never thought i would be into it [symphonic metal]" - everyone right after boarding the NW train;) IMHO, Nightwish is very very VERY special in the realms of symphonic metal and metal in general. They are one of a kind. I've heard from many ppl that they just can't get into (female fronted) symphonic metal - with the exception of NW.
But the point is that Nightwish practically invented Symphonic metal. They are kind of synonym for it. But I must admit that I completely agree with you that they are on the different level from other "symphonic" bands.

No band evokes a physical manifestation in the form of tears, goosebumps and chills like Nightwish-- Last Ride of the Day ( same show) is very similar..

Glad to see your channel is back and that youre well and truly back on the Nightwish train :) Just to catch you up on whats been happening, they brought out a new DVD live from Buenos Aires (Decades dvd) last month, and just announced today theyre next album is out on April 10th!!! Cannot wait!!! So you'll just have to do more reactions now before the new material appears :p There is also a tour coming up too, the European dates have already been mostly announced but the US/North American dates have yet to be announced so hopefully you'll get to see them live yourself :) Also, Floor was on Dutch tv last summer on a show called Beste Zangers, where she sang a number of different songs in different styles- and ended in an extraordinary cover of Phantom of the opera, with a dutch opera legend called Henk Poort.....definitely worth checking out! :)

This set at Waken 2013 is one of the best if not The best live performances I've ever seen. It would have been a phenomenal show to witness live. The recordings from it are top shelf... yay sound guys. Nightwish slays

Well great reaction and welcome back to the Nightwish army!!! I buy all there records to support the band but always look for the LIVE versions or LIVE albums to listen and experience them. There is something magical with this band LIVE and now with Floor that is even more so. They really enjoy playing with one another, it feels like a party they are having and a crowd happens to crash it. This band genuinely like one another and it really shows on stage. They are perfectly happy having Floor dominate the stage and back up that aura with their world class musicianship.
You are correct my friend. She has taken Musical Theater training and I think she brings this to the stage as well as how she brings the lyrics to life. Floor moves so gracefully and sensual on stage. You are so right Steven. The stars were aligned for this epic performance. Heavy and beauty all in one package. When was the last time you described metal music as beautiful?
buy the live dvds/blurays if you want Floor with Nightwish . Best consumed live, if you get the earbook versions you get the concert video and cd's then you can listen without watching and remember what the concert looked like! I was in a plane one day and must have been headbanging a little but with a smile on my face and the cabin crew asked what I was listening to as she didn't associate the smile with headbanging and I said it was Nightwish live at Wacken. Needless to say we have another army member now!

Nightwish is so special, unique and awesome. They are a group ...not individuals...even though Tuomas earns a special credit of creating this all.
Glad you are back man. Your appreciation for this music is great. Keep it up. Every live show of Nightwish is an experience on itself. So don't be sad that you werent there but make sure to go to the next show when they are near you. You will not be disappointed at all.
Where ever I travel in the world. When the plane/train/bus is on it's "final approach" I always put on this song. It makes me happy and helps me remind me to broaden my perspective, to be creative in unknown territories and always reminds me of staying stong-willed. But that's just me. ;)

Please listen than to a song from floor jansen what she did on a show called beste zangers. This was a show with 7 singers from different backgrounds (pop, latin, opera and folk music). they had to sing every week one song from one of the other singers or a song where they had a connection with. The song what i`m gonna suggest was Original from tim akkerman who wrote this song for his brother who is in a wheelchair. Floor did this song for him and it wil blow you away. the song is called winner and that is maybe also a life motto because after all we are all winners.

Good to have you back Steve ,they are something very special and unique .this is my favourite nightwish song ,floor absolutely owns this live.This is originally an Anette song this awesome operatic high voice choir part is not like floors version and has pre recorded choir even on the live version .which isn't anything against Annette but once you've heard floors version that's the one that will stick with you especially the added end ah ah ah bit... greetings from England.

There is another symphonic metal band and it's Dutch and that's Within Temptation and the leadsinger is Sharon den Adel and she has a beautiful angelic voice and you have to listen to a song called Angels and there latest song Entertain You. You will also be blown away🤘🤘

There is just this special look on Tuomas around 4:50 that for some reason hits me. 10 years prior he was contemplating ending his own life, and that look is the exact opposite of that emotion, if such a thing exists. Random thought. Thanks for the video!
I am not a huge fan of NIghtwish but I sometimes love listening to them cause their songs vary so much from one another. Listening to them just does not get boring like to some bands who have almost the same-sounding songs.

Nightwish really are special. I discovered them at a similar times as yourself. It’s doesn’t let up every performance I have seen has been remarkable. Wacken is amazing, Wembley is for me even better. Tampere is amazing , the latest DVD of a “great hits” type tour is incredible. A one of a kind band that became the stuff of true legend once Floor arrived.

You also have to take into account when you buy the albums you may get the Studio versions recorded with either Tarya or Annette.....the first 2 singers before Floor

Nightwish's records are nothing short of masterpieces. Who the fuck is saying that they are less than live performances!?!?! They are expertly engineered and bring out some things that the live performance cannot. Never listen to the internet!

You are in luck.... They have recording´s of concerts including Wacken 2013 (Showtime, Storytime) and newest one in Buenos Aires 2018 (Decades). Even in sweet Vinyls if you collect those. Decades concert is 3 Vinyl thingy. Just check their official webstore.
This was an epic concert,7 years later we are still watching music from it.

If you want to delve into the genre a bit more, check out Epica, Within Temptation and The Gathering. Epica can get quite heavy, while the latter two tend more to the symphonic side. Within Temptation did a cool collab with Xzibit that you might want to review. Floor sang two songs with Epica during their tenth anniversary concert: Stabat Mater Delorosa and Sancta Terra that are here on YT. That concert was unusual as instead of using backing tracks, Epica had the orchestra and choir live.
Interesting connection: Mark Jansen who formed Epica and Floor (no relation) were both in After Forever together. We can hear the echos of After Forever in some Epica tracks.
Don't be afraid to listen to Nightwish studio stuff as it's very good. We just don't get to watch them. ;) If you want to listen to the older singers from Nightwish, Tarja and Anette, definitely listen to the studio stuff as the live versions don't always measure up.
If you want to review Floor's older stuff from After Forever and ReVamp, definitely listen to the studio versions as the audio on the live recordings is quite poor. Getting to see both the heavy metal side and the full operatic side of Floor on full display, in the same song, is the only benefit to watching a live version.
This was the song that got me into Nightwish, the studio version with Annette. Then I saw this version and holy shit! Addicted ever since. Great reaction, subbed!
There's several symphonic metal bands, but Nightwish without a doubt is the crown jewel of the bunch. There's no other band in the entire world that comes close in versatility and just absolute ownership of playing a song. No other band has the kind of genius Tuomas is. No other band has Floor as a full time lead vocalist. Sure I love the band, but these are just facts, nothing more.

Aside from all the nightwish songs to react to, give the band epica sancta terra live at the retrospect show, Floor is in that video with her best friend Simone! Duets! Another great symphonic metal band.
Hello Steven. I'm a few beers in by now and I'm sorry for writing so many comments. But I believe I have some knowledge to share since I'm 43 years old and a huge metalhead. If you want to take one more step into this wilderness of metalk music, try the first album from Ensiferum. They are also from Finnland and they are so good you won't believe it. After that you will want to check out the main guy's next band, which is Wintersun. They have a reaction video hit with their live session recording of Sons of Winter and Stars. If you check that one out my work here is done. Otherwise I will continue to ask for it from now on :)

There are certain bands in the metal genres that rise above the rest.
If you're worried about the quality of the studio compared to the live preformances, there will always be differences but both are wonderful. Keep in mind they have had three different singers and this song in particular was sung by the least popular of the three. Personally I have enjoyed all three singers and what they were able to add to Nightwish, but Floor is my favorite. Also, they do sell the live CD for this preformance titled Showtime Storytime.
She is true artist, it's just amazing how she feels every song and creates whole performance. During 'Best zangers' i think i could to know her better, it's amazing that she made such different performance and how sensitive she is

Take into consideration that Nightwish was just after changing Anette for Floor in middle of the tour (for personal reasons). So all you see was a bit new to all of them. And, i guess, Floor was still working how to fit into the band.

My tip: Buy all their live stuff, usually you can buy the DVD with 1-2 CDs with the music. That's what I did with Wacken, Wembley/Tampere, Buenos Aires.
Also, some recommendations on other stuff, since you seem to find the heavy Nightwish songs all by yourself. Note that these might not be "the usual", but I usually give these recommendations in order to provide some depth, so they might be to your liking, or not. We'll see. PS: Floor is not the singer, on the studio versions, of the songs she sings at Wacken 2013 - those were recorded with either Anette or Tarja, the two previous singers. Floor has only recorded two albums with the band. The second one with Floor comes out in april of this year. Also, nothing about Floor is normal - she's kind of a unicorn 😃
Well, a unicorn as a vocalist, a prima donna of sorts, with charisma to back up an army! But in real life she is down-to-earth, intelligent, a loving mum of a family, friendly and sweet and patient to her legion of followers and admirers. Which, when I think about it, makes her even more special. man, you may be right! :)))

What u hear imo is emotion. Classically trained singers in opera do acting as well to deliver the lyrics and the story to the crowd so it's only natural Floor brings it out here as well. The fact that she does it extremely well is another thing whole together. =) Tuomas (keys, comp., lyrics etc.) always says Nw is a way of life. And it is. Passion in it's all forms.

You are right about NIGHTWISH having a special place in Symphonic metal, and Metal in general, as they were the pioneers of the genre way back in 1996. Earlier attempts to mix classical sounds with metal were made, but these guys brought the intensity - and prominence - the sub-genre never had. Able followers sprang up, and I would be hard-pressed to name who's currently the best (like, the Dutch EPICA and especially EX LIBRIS rule my heart at this time, buuut let us wait for the new NIGHTWISH album to drop this spring!). Still, there is a soft spot for the band that started it all.
You are right about the Wacken'13 performance, but especially this song, having that special "groove" - you can see all by the band members' faces. :] NIGHTWISH are such a "people's band" it radiates through their live performances. To the point about their studio albums having, strangely, a bad rap - it is only true of the latest couple albums, which were... overproduced, for the lack of a better term. More specifically I would trace the comparison to the relative disappointment of the last album, "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" - and the first with Floor on board - not making the most of her godly vocals. I mean, WHO would mix her vox under a layer of orchestration?? Overall, the expectations were high after the tour culminating in the Wacken performance, while the album came out elaborate, beautiful but tame. For one, I will vouch that NIGHTWISH's early albums were decisively NOT lacking in power and impact!
P. S.: My fave part of this version of "Storytime" is at 6:20, where Floor sings the "opera" part that on album version (with the previous singer) was performed by a choir! Just another instance of Floor making a song her own. Glad you noticed. :)
You need to take a look to Epica, Consign to Oblivion and The Obsessive Devotion. Both have official live video.
Okay. So for nightwish albums to buy, Showtime, Storytime is the CD that the wacken concert is on. Make sure you get the version that also has the music cd and the video of this entire concert. The album Vehicle of Spirit has the same, you can get it with the video and music cd and it's a mix of the Wembley and Tampere concerts. Just released in December was Decades, live in Buenos Aires. Yup you can get both the video and cd of that too. Speaking of Decades, you need to react to Devil and the Deep dark ocean. You'll love that one! So glad your back!

Floor can sell every song, please react to "Beste Zangers" this is a Dutch show where singers from a variety of genre perform for each other.
She brings so much emotions to a song I get goosebump every time and some songs give me watery eyes. (and I don't show emotions very hard)

I've often felt that the world benefits from simply having wild tigers in it. I feel the same way about Floor Jansen. Her sincere beautiful presence is truly inspiring. "We need to protect Floor at all costs." I agree. And the wild tigers. Haha... no really. Protect them!
