Propagating Fuschia Cuttings in Water - How to grow FREE Fuschia Plants - With Results

- An important top tip which I forgot to mention in the video: Be sure to pinch out any emerging flower buds that appear at the top of the cuttings whilst they are in water (either pinch them off with your fingers or cut them) - this ensures all the energy is channelled to the formation roots!
Also, if roots are slow, reduce leaves per stem to one leaf (instead of two).
The best time to start this process is in spring.
Finally, be patient! Кино
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED VIDEO. Short, simple and to the point. NO ROOT hormones, not special soil... MY kind of instructions on how to propagate plants because I don't have the time OR patience for looooong instructions for something that can be said in only a few minutes for the same results.
I love this fuschia plants, the flowers looks like a dancing ballerinas in white skirt and pink top,so lovely 🥰
I love this view of them! 😊
They are super easy using moist jiffy pellets, small cuttings placed in a sealed bag out of direct sun in a warm area. They root in days, about 14 days. I've not had a single failure. I do it just to give away and as a hobby thing as I love gardens, plants and nature.. You can even make a standard in two seasons from a cutting, better than any standard you will see in garden centres. Those pellets will make harder to propagate plants a breeze too. I think many failures happen as people use compost and it's too wet for cuttings.
I want a few of these for my front yard next summer. They’re so lovely ❤️❤️
Always put my cuttings in compost but will try this the lads down the pub will be well pleased when i hand them out!

Hi, Im in Perth West Australia, been here 60 years from Manchester originally, I found your page while looking for how to take cuttings, thank you very much.
I have a fuchsia which has got away from me in that it is almost 3 mars tall and VERY straggly !!!!, do you have any guidance for me to follow on how to prune / trim, it is a prolific flowerer and I don't want to kill it ???.
WE are about in the middle of Autumn here and Im not sure of the best time , Im thinking Winter, but as its very mild here it even flowers in winter ????,
Hope you can help, many thanks, I'm off to take some cuttings now !!!!!
137 like 👍👍👍👍👍🙏🌻
Nice sharing dear
Take SMALLER cuttings, they set roots much quicker. Best early in season, harder late season.
There Are thousand varieties, and by pinching shoots you skape them as you like.
NB!!!!!! Must overwinter inside in winter, they dont tolerate frost, except a couple of varieties.
I live in icy vold Norway, and have a collection of around 30 varieties.
Remember, the Fuchsias thrive best in shade or halfshade.
Good luck!!! 🥰
The garden looks great .. and gardening idea's superb ...so inspiring this.. your video full watching and good information sharing....... now your chhenal i subscribe ..👍👍🙏🙏
Very nice video new friend stay connected thank you
First time looking this beautiful flower plant. Want to buy it
Great to hear...if u can find a hardy variety go for that so you can enjoy it year on year 😍😍
I have some that rooted (1/2" to 1" long) in water and some didn't yet. It's now getting cold in WA state (pacific northwest) and they're indoors in water. My question is How long can I keep them in water rooted as I'd like to wait as long as possible to plant them in pots (i.e. perhaps early spring when it's possible for them to survive outdoors and mature). Or should I pot them in soil ASAP and keep them indoors until winter is over? Thank you!
Great to hear 😃you could potentially leave them in water as long as they look happy. If they have decent roots i would personally pot them up, and keep the compost moist in first week to help them adapt. Leave the unrooted ones in water as they might need more time.
Do you propagate indoors?
❤️
Nice 🌹🌲💐🌲🌹💐🌲🌹💐🌲🌹💐🌲
Hi your recommendation for the Claire Austin was spot on, thanks. I'd like to ask for some more advice, if I may... I am going to plant some fuchsia this year but I was wondering how do I make the fuchsia bushy? Thanks
Hi Nayan so glad to hear you are enjoying your claire austin...i'm looking forward to the blooms this year! 💗💗As for the Fucshia...... my mum lightly prunes her in spring and it bounces back really well... the cuttings that i propagated in this video are really big plants now...so i will experiment with them this season and report back any findings, im going to try pinching out tips to see if that works 😃
@@westlondongardener4476 I've just bought some trailing fuchsias online, I can't wait to get them planted in the baskets. Bring on summer I say
@@nayanmistry4641 absolutely....ohhh lovely....hopefully we can share tips 😊😊😊
Very coolerfull flowers new friend stay connecte
Welcome new friend 🤗
Hi, thanks for the video. What variety of fuchsia have you shown here in the video please. Thanks
Hi Nayan...im really not sure as my mum.has had it for years... but its defibetly a hardy variety.
@@westlondongardener4476 thanks, I will try and see what hardy varieties are out there
What is the best temperature for planting it ? My fuchsia turned to a wooden plant only no leaves nor flowers
They should be able to cope with summer heat but not extreme heat. Yesterday in london it was 37 degrees celcius and many of my fuschia flowers heads dried in the extreme heat. They may also turn woody due to not being rooted properly, irregular watering or being in the shade. It might also bw due to location - they can tolerate partial shade but generally require full sun.
West London Gardener thanks a lot ! I will follow your tips
What time of year can this be done?
Hi Dave, this is best done in spring to early- mid summer, when the plant is in active growth💚
You put quite a few in the same pot. Did you separate them again or just leave them all .
Hi jules 💗 yes i kept the in the same pot to give a nice full plant, but i did pot it up (gave it a bigger pot) later. You could just as easily spilt the plant in half once its grown on to get 2 full plants. Hope this helps xx
@@westlondongardener4476 thank you I'll try that way then. I've tried rooting powder and no success so I'll have a go at water. Thanks for talking slowly in video makes it more easier to follow unlike some. Have a great weekend x
@@jules1990 appreciate your good vibes my dear 💗💗🤍🤍
Very beautiful blooms how do they smell
I think they are more eye candy than fragrant 🤭
West London Gardener Thank you
May i know the month of Propagating Fuchsia Cuttings please
Hi, I started this in the spring around April time...but i also have started some in August and still waiting for an outcome!
Wow Beautiful #soumgardening
I agree 😍😍
Is it better to root it in water or potting soil?
It really depends on your preference. These flowers i rooted in water are currently in bloom and very beautiful - so it definitely works. The advantage of water is that you can see the roots more easily. But if you prefer trying in potting soil then go for it! Whatever method you use, be sure to pinch out/remove any flower buds that form whilst in water or soil...so all energy goes into root formation.
@@westlondongardener4476 thanks. I'm looking to l do some fuschias and some l evergreen plants. Don't know l what they l are called but the are very slow growing bush type things. Could you use rooting powder in the water? I'd there any way of accelerating the process? Lastly, cutting base of the stem, should it be at a 45 or 60 degree under or through the node? Or can you cut straight?
@@rickysingh616 i think rooting powder might just wash away....but theres no harm in trying! In the tutorial i cut the stem straight across and it worked, but an angled cut would probanly provide more surface area for roots to develop - so try angled. You could also do an experiment - some cuttings in water and some in potting mix! See which method you prefer!
@@westlondongardener4476 thanks, you're a legend. Will try a few styles 👍
