I always thought that of all the beings and characters in the FF series as a whole the Occuria seem the most intimidating, mostly because of all the mystery around them and their origin but also because of how they behave indifferently towards humes but also seek to control them. They are furious with Ashe for not cooperating but the Sun Cryst and the Auraliths as far as they go other than Vanat who is considered a heretic for sharing secrets and getting its own hands involved. Meanwhile when they appear before a mortal, that mortal can't even do so much as raise a hand at them. Every time one of the characters does something Venat doesn't want it can simply stop them in their tracks leaving them to stand there or to be thrown back. Why are these things like this? lol What is going on in the brains of these beings. That is what freaks me out about these things more than Kefka who's a cruel lunatic, Sephiroth who seems so powerful and unstoppable, or Yu Yevon who really just seems totally fucked. But I can't place a finger on the Occuria. They actually seem like gods. More above us than even an all-god of the universe like Bhunivelze who has no mystery to him. The mystery of the Occuria is the power.
The concept of the occuria is an interesting one. This is the only Ivalice Alliance game I've finished. Do they play a role in any of the other IA games? My only problem with them is their implementation into the story. Through the first half of the game, the plot really hooked me in. What with the 'realistic' drama and turns the party faced, it felt very forced to me to have the occuria show up to be the big bad that needed to be stopped. Felt like an extended fetch quest to me after Wraithwalls Tomb..
They seeded the existence of the Occuria as early in the game as the Marquis Ondore flip, @@trufreedom, but I understand. It doesn't quite feel as bad as FFIX, but they still did a bait and switch with the hook we all enjoyed. Final Fantasy Tactics doesn't quite have the same, but humes there appeal to the possession of Espers to twist fate in their favor.
Venat was evil, even if it didn't see itself as so. How many innocent people were slaughtered because of it. The road to hell is paved with good intentions, everyone is the hero in their own story, ya know...and all that.
@@trufreedomVenat literally said he already won anyway, him fusing with Vayne is a personal choice to help Vayne, doubt he cared about what other people would view him as.
Actually venat was the good one, and the others more manipulative. But venat choosed the most ruthless leaders, meaning it was in the end also not as good like the occuria. Vayne actually had good Intentions too, but also he reached that in a manipulative, destructive way. In the end venat succesfully reached his goal. But not in his way, Ironically, but with true freedom from the People. That's why it's more complicated, more Antagonist fractions where even the Villians are understandable. Controverse in a good way what makes you think.
Honestly I wanted to go more into this but i feel like this particular analysis required a video of its own so that is something i will definitely look closer into in a separate future video
Venat choose the best it could. Who else was doing the work of Cid? Raithwall definitely didn't have the science at his time. I'm sure Raminas didn't have a science lab as advanced as Draklor. And after the war I'm sure Rabanastre was condemned from such studies. The imperials had Cid... Sadly... Cid was under Vayne. A ruthless, power hungry, tyrant. I don't think Cid was after power for the sake of it. He was after power to study it. In order to study it he needs funds. To obtain the funds... He must sell the idea of that power to the ones who want it.
@@theerealatmand probably the thing is, only Vayne is ambitious enough to have the political will to lead humanity against Occuria at that time, so why wouldn't Venat help him? We also saw in the end that Vayne was apologetic when he thought he failed Venat and even told Venat to run away and find a new Dynast king that would be able to fulfill Venat's GOALS (not Vayne's, Venat's), meaning they're close enough as friends that they cared for each other's well-being and goals.
What if the Occuria could just create another Sun Crest? I imagine they would exist long after any current character and could simply hide their time and make another move to emerge long after knowledge of their existence has faded. If you think like an immortal, cosmic being you can see how one event could be so insignificant. Mortal problems aren't their problems.
what i dont understand is: the sunchryst was destroyed, so they lost the power over the humans. BUT the mega crysth was still there, so there was still a source for power and necicithe for the humans.
Their origins and history are quite mysterious, although It's possibly intentional, at least on their part. They do not appear to be mortal and have likely endured for millenia. Why bother to explain your goals and ideals to those that might not even live a century?
Guiding the course of history from behind the curtains, the real world rulers play from the shadows and let their proxies be the face the people they rule over see.
Venat is the archetypal Prometheus, even though Prometheus was also a titan, not an Olympian. Then again the titans were the children of the original gods, and the Olympians were themselves the offspring of 2 titans. Similarities yes, but also slight differences. The inspiration for these in-game deities is clear though.
Is there a video on this channel that can offer information regarding the Scions of Light. All that is mentioned of them is that the Espers we know (the Scions of Darkness) were created in opposition to them. I find it odd that there's little I can find about them, even on the wiki, which is usually a treasure trove of information on this universe.
I actually did a little digging on that, and I think i came across a post that talked about a potentially unreleased plan for the implementation of the Scions of light in the game. In turn, this would have increased the overall role of the espers in terms of lore as opposed to just obtainable summons. The fact that there is little in the game in about the espers lore-wise is a little criminal to begin with and i think it would have definitely expanded more on the world of ivalice if the scions were implemented in the game. If i find more info on it I can definitely make a video talking about them.

@ETHomerin: They have always reminded me of the Vorlons from Babylon5. They, too, were master manipulaters.

I want a ff12-2 where the fight between the occuria and the espers is reignited.
We need the story of the Occuria and their involvement with the banishment of the Aegyl and the sky continent of Lemurés.
Oh right
I remember stumbling into that story just a few months back. Time to hit the books again and read more into that story

Unless he won, then he'd be celebrated as a liberator, maybe! History is written by the victors..

there's a bit more info on them in some of the bestiary entry's. Specially the Elemental ones i believe.

Espers sound like titans from Greek mythology….
The Occuria, then, being The Olympians…

@montblanc2988 occuria are the primordial gods and the espers are the titans.
Already looking forward to this one! 😁

I love this universe!
I wonder what happened to the occuria during tactics?
I’d love to find out what happened to the city of Giruvegan and the Ridorana Cataract.
That's a good question...
