I have always loved Antiques and collected all my life. I was an Antique dealer in the 70’s - 90’s and have seen such a change. The business changed when EBay emerged. People wanted immediate satisfaction and lost the “Fun of the Hunt”. When you collect and find something in the wild, you always remember the excitement it brought you and where you found it. Your channel brings me so much joy, just like the old days🥰
Oh.. how fun. Yes.. eBay’s changed things a bit. But I think luckily there are still plenty that like to “ hunt” we usually get to chat with shoppers when we’re restocking. Love hearing what they are hunting for.
I do enjoy all your videos. You are super talented, and everything you share is helpful, I started doing this about years ago, and I have two booths, and I need all the help and knowledge from successful people like yourself. I appreciate all you do. Thank you for sharing your experiences and knowledge. God bless you and your family! ❤️
I make crafts and half the time can't find what I needed. Not even on line! So I stopped. Now and then I will make something for myself. Love antiques!! 🥰
I have a total of 3 booths- 2 very small and a 10x15 all are at different sides of town. I’m not making money I am getting rid of stuff and I do this to prevent self isolating/depression. For the first time in 4 years of doing this I’m keeping a journal and I wrote out goals for each booth, I will track my sales and write about the month of sales. Ultimately, I plan to just have the 10x15 and shop with mindfulness. I’ve always created item numbers for my things because I swop things out between booths and it’s easy to lose track of inventory. The plan this year also is to not come out of pocket as many times or at all as I did in the previous years - it has been A LOT. I loved your lamps and owls. Closing a booth is always sad for me.
It’s definitely a learn as you go process. Buying items is the easy part, pricing is hard. Now the selling.. is harder. It takes the right person to come along and want that item. And that time frame.. well who knows how long that can take. I too have learned those items “ we don’t buy again to resell “ as every area and every mall sell things and attracts different shoppers. Sounds like you’re on the right path. We always have to do what’s right for us. Best of luck.
Yvonne, this was a very interesting, informative video. Thank you for all you do! Good luck in the New Year. I'm so grateful to you for EVERYTHING you have taught me. I'm not a reseller I just do things for myself and family and I'm so proud when they say "you should sell your stuff" I just don't have the guts right now to take that plunge!
I’m with you on that Donna. I’ve always have done crafts or more makeovers n friends say I should sell them. Maybe I should but I get more enjoyment doing it for myself or friends. I do love my antiques. I do like to refinish them n I end up keeping it. For example someone gave me an old Martha Washington sewing cabinet that was painted white. Oh how much enjoyment I got in restoring it back to its original piece. Now I’ve got 2 of them. I’ve got to many hours n days working on it to give it away. It’s so good to see someone else has the love for this as I do. ♥️😊👍
Shelly I love it when someone says " Donna I'm going to toss this unless you want it" I take it change it up and usually they want it back! Which I'm very happy to give it back so they can enjoy it a little longer keeping it out of the landfill. @@shellydehart8217
The white trolley bottom shelf could be white painted small corrugations iron, punched metal sheeting or metal lattice. I’m sure you have something in Chris’s stash. A friend of mine used the fine metal sides of a defunct above ground pool to insert into kitchen cupboard doors for the effect of an antique meat safe. Next time she will paint the doors black to look give the effect that the metal stands alone as the door.
I agree about 'marking down'...a new tag it is! I also face the reset challenge when store is open, but I just hang a "sorry sign" and tell folks '"let me know if I can help you around my mess" and it often starts a chat.
My late husband & I started going to auctions and it was the most fun we had as a couple. It lead to a booth which was also fun. Now days the booth rent is so high I don't know how some people do it. This video was interesting & it brought back some good memories.
My Grandmother and Uncle use to go to Auction’s and buy/sell antiques in Arkansas but I have always lived in Fl, my sister and I spent every summer up there from the age of 5 and unfortunately I didn’t appreciate the old stuff back then and kicking myself now because I would have so many beautiful things now. I believe my Uncle still might have a few things that I could probably get from him next time I go visit 😊
I have noticed that when I'm at an antique mall and and an owner is restocking, they are are not very friendly or welcoming so i tend to avoid their booth till they are gone. I know for me, i would like for them to at least say "hi" and act like they appreciate me being there. Anyway, that's just my opinion. I was in retail for over 10 years and i always spoke to the customers.
Thank you for sharing your experiences with your booths. I have been a vendor in a shop that specializes in painted furniture, small decor items, and painting services for almost 12 years. I’ve loved it. I just resigned my contract. Painting large furniture pieces is hard when you can’t move them by yourself. Also, my husband has been happily helping me, but I don’t feel right always asking him to work more on his limited time off. Maybe we’ll do something else when he retires in a few years.
You are so right about how much time and work it takes to run a booth. I’m struggling with closing my booth or not. I am 99% sure I will close it and put smalls on eBay (how I started). Larger items will go on marketplace or I’ll have a barn sale once or twice a year. Love the stained glass lamps, too!
You scared me, I thought you were not going to be at Hog Creek any more. Your booths are so great and I tried to get there last part of 2023 but just couldn't. So glad you're still there and I'll have opportunity to visit; see so many cool pieces in the footage. Thanks for sharing, hope 2024 is a bigger success than 2023, all the best!
I like your booth displays! The objects go well together because you make such effective installations. You create mini environments of objects from the past that many people can add to their contemporary homes because they are funy, charming, full of humanity.
The lil owl with pick I think is to water the plant in a pot. Take the berries and greenery out and I think sticker will come off the tiny pitchers. I thought they so stinking cute. Those lamps are fantabulous ❤. I have been concerned for several different resales in different parts of the country because the economy is getting really bad. Oh the bugs are fabulous, lol, the only kind I like.😊❤
As far as I can tell the economy is just fine. I sell plenty in my shop and on ebay. Ya just have to have what people will spend their money on because they are willing to buy.
As the owner of an antique mall for 21 years, I enjoyed listening to you share your thoughts about the business, and I can tell you that you are spot on with much of it. Of course different areas have different markets and consumer tastes, so there aren't a set of iron clad rules that work everywhere. In our mall, we have crafts as well as selected lines of new merchandise that blend well with antiques, and that works for us. I understand your concern about furniture moving slowly, but it just does. Mainly it's because people don't buy furniture, or change it out as much as they do smalls. Be patient, and don't mark it down just to get rid of it. Rotating furniture in and out of your booth may be a good idea. On the craft end--I do crafts as well and I also have seen the farmhouse black and white losing steam. I am shifting a lot toward cottagecore. I sell IOD products and I love the look that these girls promote. I am very excited to see a return to feminine style making a comeback. Thank you for what you do. I have learned a lot from you. Keep up the good work, and God bless!
I just opened a booth and your videos have been incredibly helpful! Thank you for your honesty about some of the challenges and how you price items. Love your how to videos too. They are so easy to follow.
Thank you for sharing your process on your business. I truly appreciate you and all of the hard-work you do for all of us to enjoy and get inspiration.🥰
Were big into Auctions , Antique shops, all for personal use, we are redoing our home, getting rid of cutsie things, esp Christmas stuff. Decluttering n doing more natural things. It takes a long time to find everything but its fun. Looking for Copper items for the kitchen area,
Oh Yvonne! I absolutely LOVE my swag! My mailman, Amazon and UPS have all commented on it! Sadly I’m going to have to bring it in as winds are coming along with snow and I don’t want it banging around! I’ll hang it by my Grandpa and his mule team picture though for the rest of the Season!
This was such a nice informative video. So many people go into these malls thinking that it’s just going to be fun and they’re going to be decorating and they’re going to just make tons of money. They don’t realize how difficult it can be and how much work is involved. This was a very nice video because it gives you a good idea of what you need to do and looking at all of the stuff that you have in storage (to be made over) should make anyone who’s not willing to work hard have a second thought.
Thank you for all the inspiration! Loved the haul, I absolutely loved seeing tidbits of your booths as you were moving things. I’d love to see your booths up close on a tour sometime soon if that’s possible. I pray you continue to have great success! May The Lord bless you and your hubby as you continue your business. ❤🎉
It's a labor of love and a-lot of what you said includes work. It's really hard to find a job you really love but this for you two is it. That is what makes it worth the love you have for it and put into it. God Bless, Hugs, Rebekah
I have realized that all my stock I have been storing is outdated with the black and white them. Now it seems French country cottage decor is the new in thing. I am definitely looking at repainting if I am going to get them sold.
Gorgeous. I only can do the small stuff now because I can’t drive anymore and can only buy and ship what I can carry easily. But I love the vicarious pleasure from watching your hauls.
Favorite ginger snap 🤓 great advice from an antique store owner ~40 years ago when I started a booth, was Elizabeth this business cycles learn to work with that. Social media super drives it now. Still love the hunt like you kids. 😘. Elizabeth
Thanks for honestly sharing your experiences from your journey. Its good info for those of us who are trying to find our place in this refresh and resell world.
I need some iron stone in my life..never heard of it until I subscribed to your channel..I love you and hubby style..I’ve flipped things for years for myself but I’m ready to go further..need to get hubby on board he’s a great builder and a union electrician guitar player very artistic..when I saw u guys downsized and got a bigger shop that’s def on my bucket list❤thank u so much for all the inspiration!!..I’m already making over a shiny bright box for Easter (shadow box style again because of your inspiration ❤
Suggest next time you transport glass, you tape it diagonally in several places. Either masking tape or that heavy packing tape with the strengthening nylon fibers running through it. It might not keep it from breaking, but it might. And if it does break, it will protect you from the broken glass.
I was just in an antique mall the other day & it was packed but no one was buying anything. When one door closes another one opens. 😊 Thanks for your honesty about your journey. Luv your channel.
Thank you for this information. Been toying with idea of have a booth as a side project/job. Gave me more things to think about as to whether or not this might be a viable option for me. You are very creative & give lots of good info on the few videos I've watched when your restore/repurpose an item. So glad I found you.
Thank you so much for this video. I am looking to open a larger booth and start to go to more auctions, etc. Your wealth of knowledge and the fact you’re willing to share is so appreciated. Thank you from 🇨🇦! Cheers
The way you display things in the booth is appealing to the eye, for sure. My favorite things from your haul are the cast iron bugs. I have several of those but some don't have antennas.
I think everything is different for where you live. People have been refinishing furniture since at least 2000 in my area I still have pieces from 2003 that I have done and still love them to this day and look amazing. There have been a lot people in the last 2 states I have lived in that jumped on to the RUclips bandwagon of refinishing furniture and tried to make a living on it and ended up closing shop. It so simple to do and why pay someone when you can do it yourself and get the color or designs you really want.So I think it's just where you live. I really only watch RUclips to check for any new designs and inspiration. But I am glad you got into antiquing I have always loved going to auctions it's something my family has done as long as I can remember. My aunt owns her own antique mall, and mom used to own her own craft mall when they started to get popular in 1990's. One thing I have not seen you mention as a way to find items is storage unit sales. Have you looked into those? All my aunts get together and by units and use the items for the antique mall and the rest they have garage sales.
I loved this video. I really love antiques anyway, and I always love to see what you find at the auctions. Unfortunately, we just don’t have them around here and our thrift shops seem to price as high as new items. It’s really ridiculous, especially on the items they’re pricing. An example is frames and framed pictures, and they’re nothing special. The prices on empty frames are generally $25+, and framed pictures range $50-$100+ on items that are really nothing special in anyway. Consequently I’m just amazed at what y’all find and the prices you get them for. I love but West Texas is along seeing your stuff and can only wish West Texas wasn’t so far away. Happy New Year to you and Chris.
I enjoyed the video. You bought beautiful lamps. My favorite is the purple rose lamp. Sad that you are closing one shop. Fun to see the antique mall. I visited your booths when in MI two summers ago.
The 2 years before covid, husband and I discovered auctions! Wed go to 2/3 week!!! We replaced ALL the furniture in our home with solid/beautiful/antique pieces❤ Most $$$ piece was $200, hand made, carved pulls, black walnut! I'm still on the hunt for a piece but auctions have pretty much died! Went to one 3 months ago for a piece that was perfect, I went WAY higher then I wanted & I let it go. Furniture prices that night were the highest we've ever seen.
Love your videos. I started as a crafter & someone encouraged me to get on Etsy about 13 years ago. Now I'm 70 & retired & resell vintage items & still create & craft. Business is good but trends definitely change. I like the challenge of tweaking something just enough to make it fresh again. I like to dig things out of our 200 year old barn & either repurpose for myself or sell. My father-in-law was a picker on dumps most of his life. I've got a box of antique tools & trying to sell some but wondered if you ever repurposed them? Maybe a video on a tool repurposed? Thank you & good luck on your journey.
You guys are great! You know when to pivot and you do it! I enjoy what you do, whatever it is! I sell a few crafty items in my booth but people dont buy it in my town. Everybody does crafting here. I thought 4 booths might be overwhelming!
We still shop in person, though the number of shops have dwindled down quite a bit. I buy on line when it’s something I can’t find elsewhere. I had a booth for a bit but didn’t make much money at it.
Best Wishes for you& Chris!Thank you for Sharing all you do! My Hubby is Retiring next yr &has been adding Big Stuff to The Garage Tools so we can Work as a Team! I hope to make a Visit there in the Future!! Patricia❤
We have an antique store that I have been going in for 20 years and it is DEFINITELY a collectors storage rather than ANY vendors. Nothing is ever SOLD, CLEANED, UPDATED, RESET, OR EVEN DUSTED! I have never even seen more than 1 other person even looking and that’s good cause the price tags have all faded so you can’t read them. I’ve given up on that store !
I don't always comment but lm here. Love your work. You haven't done anything yet that I don't like or love. I'll make it to your booths hopefully this summer. Not one for the cold.😊❤
Omg my basement and garage look like yours, stuff all over. Yours looks nicer than mine!! I have been doing auctions for 99% of my purchases both to resell and for personal stuff. My husband has always gone to auctions but I went once and it was so much fun! Do they have food trucks there too?
There usually is some type of vendor selling food there. We usually pack a small snack bag. But never want to miss out on what they are selling. It’s very sporadic sometimes what will be coming up to bid on.
Hello from Ireland ☘️great video and so informative. I would love to be able to sell my craft item’s that I make . You are doing great work and it’s paying off so happy for you both. Love watching your videos your so passionate about your work and it’s so important that you are enjoying what you do .Have a wonderful year ahead happy crafting. 💚☘️
Sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do!! With our current economy, people are spending their money on the necessary things...food. gas, rent or mortgage and certainly must prioritize their spending. Hopefully things will get better in the near future. You are smart to follow your heart and do what you feel is best for you and your family, at this time. Love your videos, no matter what the content.❤
Wonderful video. I’m so happy that you shared at how you came about getting into having a booth or two. Very informative. You definitely have the talent for it. I’ve learned so much from you in these past few years that I’ve been watching your channel. I’m like a kid excited to see what new ideas you have. I do look forward to it. My big regret is that I don’t live close enough to you to check out your booth. I know I’d probably be there once a week buying something as you have some wonderful things n some cool antiques. Thank you Yvonne for being a true believer in yourself n being the honest person you are. You are so loved by so many especially me. ♥️♥️♥️😊👍👍👍🌟
Thank you for the journey, it helps me on mine! I sell on ebay, have a store, and would like to branch out, so the auction info is so helpful, as well as your insights. ❤ Blessings!
Very informative! We started a booth 2 years ago - still no profit. But the mall has been changing things which has been bringing in more foot traffic so 🤞 sales will change. November and December sales were so bad. This maybe our last year.

Very interesting video, you inspire me every time you post 😊 thank you
I'm so glad! Thank you
I know nothing about antiques but I love learning from you. Thank you so much.

Thank you,Happy new year!
I've wanted a Campfire marshmallow tin for years and can't find one, (within my budget). At the end of the video I saw that you have one! Lucky you.
Cheers
Best of luck. Follow your dream and have fun.
So fun and I very much appreciated hearing your story. We have been at it for about 8 months. Constantly learning! Thank you!
Thankyou that was very insightful about having a booth. 👍
Thank you so much. You are such a gift to all of us. Your heart and soul is shining bright. Happy new year. 🙏
Thank you
I love your black and white, I always go back to your starting videos for ideas. Your confidence has grown immensely 😊
I loved the tins you decorated. Lovely
I LOVED seeing your booths! That was great!
I love the stirrups, I have one turned into a lamp .
Enjoyed this video. Thank you for sharing. Wish I lived closer, I'd definitely shop in your booths. 🤗
Thank you
Thank you si much for sharing today.
The little white ceramic owl picks are to put in plants and put water in for watering a plant. Pretty sure. God Bless you and Chris in the future.
Thank you for sharing your story so far Yvonne. It was truly fascinating and really edifying. Cheers 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love everything you do and wish you continued success.
Four was a bit much. I think three will be much better to control.
@@GingerChickRehabTheJourney well, if anyone could have managed 4 booths. It was you and Chris!
Patricia❤
Awesome.. love hearing that ❤
We have an antique store that I have been going in for 20 years and it is DEFINITELY a collectors storage rather than ANY vendors. Nothing is ever SOLD, CLEANED, UPDATED, RESET, OR EVEN DUSTED! I have never even seen more than 1 other person even looking and that’s good cause the price tags have all faded so you can’t read them. I’ve given up on that store !
I love my glove mould! I use it in my kitchen to hold my sponge and dish rag.
❤😊
Great idea!!
Love your Channel. Thanks for sharing such good info about your booths, what is working and not working!!
Thank you
Some much great information, thank you for sharing!
I love your stuff I live in Mason and bought a big white cupboard from u and I have it in my kitchen!
I Love the owl with the glasses I want him 😊
Love your videos 💛
Wonderful video. I’m so happy that you shared at how you came about getting into having a booth or two. Very informative. You definitely have the talent for it. I’ve learned so much from you in these past few years that I’ve been watching your channel. I’m like a kid excited to see what new ideas you have. I do look forward to it.
My big regret is that I don’t live close enough to you to check out your booth. I know I’d probably be there once a week buying something as you have some wonderful things n some cool antiques.
Thank you Yvonne for being a true believer in yourself n being the honest person you are. You are so loved by so many especially me.
♥️♥️♥️😊👍👍👍🌟
You water thru the owl pick you called it
I really need to check into the auctions!
End of the year shop fun...I always enjoy your content happy new year....
Happy new year!
Thank you for the journey, it helps me on mine! I sell on ebay, have a store, and would like to branch out, so the auction info is so helpful, as well as your insights. ❤ Blessings!
Love those lamps! I have 3 all gifts passed down from the in-laws.
Very informative!
We started a booth 2 years ago - still no profit. But the mall has been changing things which has been bringing in more foot traffic so 🤞 sales will change. November and December sales were so bad. This maybe our last year.
