@@cookieguy8570 you gotta take apart the bottom half of your ps4 and you'll find a blue ribbon under the power supply and apparently if you're getting this error that blue ribbon isn't connected all the way but I haven't tried it yet so it's a 50/50 chance
Xbox has similar problems but they are not as frequent. I would agree that in this generation (PS4/Xbox One) the Xbox is built a lot better. Microsoft learned their lesson from the 3 Red Ring fiasco.
I just find it weird because my console was working perfectly until this update. Now suddenly I need to fix all of this? No way it could've gotten loose or damaged in a matter of seconds when I'm not even touching the thing. The updates are just bugged and they need to fix this. It's stupid.

@@AkinoSominoCookierz first my disc reader stopped working a few weeks ago. I had fifa in while playing error came up and then it said cant start application. I couldnt even eject the cd but once i got it out using the screw method i cant insert any cds. Just now a couple hours ago i log back in to play after being off a few days and then the update keeps on giving me the SU-42118-6 error. Nothings working man

@@arghaarvan I had to buy a new PS4 I did a factory reset on mine so many times it fucked up my software it will not update at all , but 7.00 update just came out I'm going to see if it might update on that but if you never done a factory reset on yours do that and it should update itself but your going to lose everything and have to redownload all games but all of your progress should be saved in ps cloud...hold the ps button down let it beeps twice that will take you to safe mode then do reinstallation that should fix your problemit's not something I would do all the time cuz then you'll mess up your PlayStation like I have mine if that don't work then your software is bad and you might as well just get a another PlayStation .. also sometimes taking it apart and cleaning it real good will help it run faster and act better on updates but before you even attempt to do that make sure you have a security bit you can buy them at any hardware store and when this first started happening to me I switched out my power cord and that fix my problem also I don't know how but it did cuz I would get stuck in safe mode and it would say I need to update right now I can get to the home screen but it won't let me update if you're stuck at safe mode definitely go buy another power cord try that if that don't work reinstallation definitely will

@@arghaarvan out of nowhere mine started working again I don't know if it's the new update or what .. what you want to do is turn your PlayStation all the way off hold the button until it beeps twice then let it go you will then be in safe mode go all the way down it's the second to the last option factory reset I think the actual options says installation or something of that nature do that and all of your games and stuff will be gone but your progress is not that can be re-uploaded from PS plus cloud if the factory reset does not work then you have nothing to lose open it up take it completely apart clean everything make sure all the connections are good and also make sure your disk drive is not broke that's when my PlayStation started messing up on me when it would not take a disc anymore then you know you have a problem but I just kept messing with mine and doing the factory reset and cleaning it and making sure all my connections were good watch a video if you don't know how to take it a part like on the hard drive disc wire don't just pull that thing out you have to push down on the connector to take it out but before you start messing with all that the first thing you want to do is see if your PlayStation will take a disc if it doesn't take it apart make sure the connections are good then try doing a factory reset or just try the factory reset first if you know what you're doing I would take it apart it's not hard at all there are plenty of videos out there that tell you how to do it step-by-step

This happens a lot if you try to do an update and the ps4 is updating a game at the same time. Turn off the ps4. Plug in a wired controller, not a WiFi one, turn on your ps4 and hold the power button for around 7 seconds until you hear the bleep. Run the ps4 update from the safe mode menu.

i noticed that my disk drive wasn't working, but i didn't really pay attention since i downloaded my games, i just didn't think i'd need the disk drive working to update it. you helped me figure this out ! thank you so much i was wondering why it just wasn't updating.
For those who don't have a fix, fuse f6202 was blown on mine. None of the cable methods worked. I threw a blob of solder over the fuse to bypass it and it's working again after a year! Do this at your own risk or better yet replace the fuse. It's a tiny one beside the renases chip on the mainboard (ps4 slim)
So I was getting this error code for the update 6.51. I literally just unplugged my optic drive cables and replugged them in carefully and it worked. I had tried SO many other solutions. Safe mode, USB drive, deleting the download file, etc. Literally messed with the cables and it fixed it.
I searched for hours for a fix and for me I just needed to clean the ribbon connecting bluray drive, it must have got dirty when I put new thermal paste on cpu.

Just got the error after patch 6.71. the problems started mildly by the disc not being read or ejecting... Eventually the disc injection and ejection no longer works and my games can no longer be read.

So a ps4 cant update when there is a faulty disc drive. So to update you need to replace the disc drive just remember when you change out the drive you also need to replace the daughter board on the disc drive
My PS4 slim doesn't have a working disc drive, it doesn't make the noise where the laser is trying to read a disc but it does the beeping noise when I try to put in the disc or press the eject button but the disc can't be taken in

Mine hated that I had an 8 TB external on it. I disconnected during the update and was able to proceed. After turning it back on, it was flipping out abit about games that are installed on the external. I went to storage. Once it was done calculating, the games showed taking up storage and now work.
I figured out what mine was, the 8.50 update. I couldn’t update it with my extended storage connected. And now it doesn’t work. So I switch my storage to the other hard drive and deleted stuff and it finally worked

I had to buy a new ps4, I took my bad ps4 to get repaired locally, I was told it can't be fixed. It sucks but, I moved all my saved data to a USB drive and transferred the data to my new PS4. Couldn't do the ethernet cable transfer because both ps4s need to be updated with the latest update...ugh..so yeah. USB drive will be the only way to transfer that saved game data. I bought the replacement ribbon that plugs into the drive, I saw in another video, not the correct cable (I have a ps4 slim 500) so I gave up on that. Good luck, I just bought a new ps4...that damn update...

(If you have an external game storage) I had this issue with update: 7.50 I fixed it by... -Removing my external hard-drive where all my games are stored (using quick-menu to safely disconnect). -Doing the update as you normally would -Reconnecting the external after the update is complete Everything seems to be working great now. Hope this helps someone.

Hi I was wondering if you could help make a decision, I have a PS4 slim with this error and did this sometime over a weekend with no update and does what you explain (disc drive not working at all) and made me think that it was the logic chip but then I starting noticing while it’s off it would click loudly almost like it was the internal hard drive but I’m not sure then I read about the blown fuse thing too. Do you think I should try changing the internal drive on my slim?

So a ps4 cant update when there is a faulty disc drive. So to update you need to replace the disc drive just remember when you change out the drive you also need to replace the daughter board on the disc drive
My PS4 slim doesn't have a working disc drive, it doesn't make the noise where the laser is trying to read a disc but it does the beeping noise when I try to put in the disc or press the eject button but the disc can't be taken in

Mine hated that I had an 8 TB external on it. I disconnected during the update and was able to proceed. After turning it back on, it was flipping out abit about games that are installed on the external. I went to storage. Once it was done calculating, the games showed taking up storage and now work.
I figured out what mine was, the 8.50 update. I couldn’t update it with my extended storage connected. And now it doesn’t work. So I switch my storage to the other hard drive and deleted stuff and it finally worked
i restored mine to factory with external HD out and it’s still not taking the update :/
@@32skaterbro fry deleted stuff that you don’t use, like games and stuff off of the internal hard drive and see if that works.

I had to buy a new ps4, I took my bad ps4 to get repaired locally, I was told it can't be fixed. It sucks but, I moved all my saved data to a USB drive and transferred the data to my new PS4. Couldn't do the ethernet cable transfer because both ps4s need to be updated with the latest update...ugh..so yeah. USB drive will be the only way to transfer that saved game data. I bought the replacement ribbon that plugs into the drive, I saw in another video, not the correct cable (I have a ps4 slim 500) so I gave up on that. Good luck, I just bought a new ps4...that damn update...

My PS4 wasn't in Safe Mode. All that I had to do was manually connect a controller and press O. And it took me back to my home screen.
I didn't have the BR Drive problem though

Remove external storage before the update. That causes the error also.

I had this issue with update: 7.50
I fixed it by...
-Removing my external hard-drive where all my games are stored (using quick-menu to safely disconnect).
-Doing the update as you normally would
-Reconnecting the external after the update is complete
Everything seems to be working great now. Hope this helps someone.

Hi I was wondering if you could help make a decision, I have a PS4 slim with this error and did this sometime over a weekend with no update and does what you explain (disc drive not working at all) and made me think that it was the logic chip but then I starting noticing while it’s off it would click loudly almost like it was the internal hard drive but I’m not sure then I read about the blown fuse thing too. Do you think I should try changing the internal drive on my slim?

Should have kept the disc drive logic board installed. If you have it put it back it and it will fix your update issue.
