    Makes so much trouble to the legit owner when it fails. And I bet, professional car thieves would bypass it in a few minutes. It's just like antipiracy stuff for computer software and games.

    $600 for part of a steering lock?! Time to find another car! These cars are going to impossible to maintain cost-effectively as little stuff and sensors begin to fail! These cars will be hitting the scrap yard at 10 to 15 years!

    What a horribly complex mechanism. Designed to frustrate owners and make $$ for dealers. I see Nissan has not lost their love of elaborate locking devices. After my 2003 Sentra experience,
    In the words of Winnebago man, "no more!"

      Chris - They design cars these days to get more money out of people! My 2006 Ford Territory/Explorer broke a heater rod which is a common fault for these & to replace it, I’m looking up to $1000 plus just for labour to have them pull the whole dash pulled out & replaced back & only $30 for the new part! :(

    I'm having a hard time breaking into my Steering lock. Tried drilling out the clamped parts, having a hard time getting the plate to come off.
    If I get the same part on eBay from someone else's Nissan, will my key work with it? Or do I still need to get Nissan or a locksmith involved? Thank you.

  • @robertmcwhinney4596
    @robertmcwhinney4596 Год назад

    The ones you can push down are made different, they don't have the worm gear, they have an electromagnetic draw that when powered on pulls the lock down so yeah you can push those down but like you say, a person can push on this kind all they want and will never push it down. Gear has to be turned to make it come down.🙋‍♂️

    FYI I run a recon center for a dealer in Camden NJ today I was able to purchace a steering wheel bypass from nissan for 75$ it bolts in place of the original steering lock plug play no programming it worked.
    I had previously orderd a doorman with the dongle to program it . Dont do it I have gone through hell with these over the years. Call your nissan dealer parts department with your vin there is a bulletin from Nissan and they can tell you if it will work with your nissan altima Troy

    Hey mate, I got a question. I’m having same issues with my Nissan Fuga (M37) key fob opens the car as normal but nothing else. Can’t get anything on the dash. Only the key blinking and a big key saying “Warning Key system” anyway got an electrician to scan it and came up quite a few codes all related to the steering wheel lock and malfunction ignition switch. The electrician/ mechanic couldn’t fix it after couple hours trying everything he could. The car now is been siting on my driveway for 2 weeks. My question do you reckon I should try to bypass it? Is it going to last ? Thank you very. Your videos are amazing. ;)

    My 2009 Altima had the steering lock bypass or whatever done before I bought it. Where the back plate was removed and you move the gear. Owned it a year and one day it didn’t start. Radiator fan kicks on full blast. Now the windows won’t work. Also had a lock smith attempt to re program my key fob and now it doesn’t lock or unlock car. No communications through OBD reader. Anybody know what this could be?

    Doesn't it suck to spend $600 to find out Nissan was replacing these under warranty for free with an emulator? The TSB gives a part number and a big bold warning that after the voluntary customer care campaign, the steering wheel WILL NOT LOCK. So nissan got rid of this system.

    This was happening to you at 36k???? Holy God!!! Im at 78k and I just happened as I tried to leave work. My wife picked me up from work but I took that bastard off first and brought it home. I just held that lock down and drilled a cross hole through the aluminum then used a metal clothes hangar to make a pin that holds it all the way down.I have to get a ride back to work and try it out but if that doesn't work then ill bring it back up and bust that f'cker open and push back that black pin like some other vids explain. I appreciate the electronic explanation but I don't need to over think the circuitry if I don't have too. If you're going to go through all that then it seems like you could just bypass the entire block by jumping 1 or 2 sets of the connector pins from the harness.

    This did not work for me. It lasted a week. I had to get it swapped at the dealership but able to get the recall part. I paid 367. The best thing for people to do its report it so there can be a recall or service campaign. There is one right now but it is only for a select few. Report it to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that is the only way you can get reimbursed or get it swapped for free. The NHTSA will notify Nissan to do a service recall or service campaign announcement.
