@@talnomix3164 He might last for a while in a lightsaber duel, and manage to deflect the lightning, but I doubt he'd ever stand a real chance of winning. Lets not forget Sidious has master all 7 forms of Lightsaber Combat, and his preferred form is Juyo which is strong against Soresu. Sure Obi Wan is THE master of Soresu but even so he'd probably have like a 1/10 chance if that. But knowing Palpatine he'd just overwhelm Obi Wan's force shield in nothing flat.

People are absolutely overthinking this. This is not a power or skill comparison between Obi Wan and Palpatine. This is just a different timeline where Obi Wan went for Palpatine instead of Yoda Of course Obi Wan would get destroyed. Forms don’t really matter imo.
They matter more especially if someone really mastered a form. Palpatine somewhat "mastered" all forms, even tho he specialized in form 7 juyo, where as obi wan specialized in form 3. Palpatines mastery of form 3 doesnt come near obi wans mastery, the same applies for the other way around. ofc force wise obi wan will utterly loose :)

I do think that when we are talking about Canon material, then sure, forms can be the determinant factor in duels and will actually matter more. In Legends? Not really. The usage of force is highly increased in duels. A lot of people use Battle Meditation. Obi-Wan actually taught Luke Force Speed to make his reactions during Duel faster, etc. Keep in mind that being the best at certain Form, doesn't mean you're the best duelist in general. Palpatine mastering all forms just means Obi-Wan would get stomped not only in force, but in Dueling as well. At Mustafar, Anakin was defeated by his own arrogance and ego rather than Obi-Wan's form, have those factors were not in play, Obi-Wan's dead and would never raise Luke to be a Jedi.
I think Yoda and Obi-wan should have taken sidious together but considering how many Jedi had already been killed, I can see why Yoda insisted on Obiwan going straight to Anakin and leaving himself to take on Sidious.
