OH yes I remember those early Gotchas with Mr Blobby ... and did you notice the Gotcha award was the original and first one they used ... until the Oscar people in America got to hear about it and sued the BBC (I think? - certainly they objected strongly) over copyright so they changed the Gotcha award to the fist holding the person, or whatever it was. :)

Nah, the problem was that the original Gotcha trophy looked a bit too much like an Oscar trophy that the Academy Awards started to notice and sent a couple legal complaints. They probably got the complaints after filming that series' Gotchas but before all the available ones aired. Can't exactly refilm the segments with a new trophy without losing the authentic reactions.
So Mr Blobby wasn't a real kid's character, he was a prop to wind people up? But then later becomes a real kid’s character, and they need to bring him back, maybe an animation I'm thinking of, tone him down a bit,
