Unlike many generic versions I,ve heard through many years , this interpretation is quite unique in the fact that he almost seems to play the individual keys late which adds to the excitement and the passion only he can portray . Its actually quite clever and captivating .Thats just my opinion ............Fabulous
Very good performance, no rush, no hasle… good boy, reminds Claudio Arrau, well balanced, the right tempo-feeling, Beethoven was not ina hurry when writing this masterpiece (dedicated to all F1 racers performing this piece ina hurry)
this is hands down the best version of the moonlight sonata around, that 3rd movement has exactly the right speed and feel, dramatic yet not drowing out any notes
+Fat Lum right?? the 3rd movement speed is like dancing naked under the storm at the edge of the earth, maybe some balls of fire falling around right????
+Andres Catunga, I'm guessing, since I'm eight that that means, it's hard. But actually, the song seems very easy. I mean, after, the very beginning, it really is just a moderate speed on the right hand and a mush of repeated key mush on the left that changes every ones in a while. But for some parts, it's easy, but not good. Like the horrible part at the end. Ughhhhhhhh.
I’m in love with his piano 😍😍 the sweetness and delicate expression 😌 he is my favorite pianist since the international Frederic Chopin Piano Competition in 2000
This makes me imagine Beethoven caressing his beloved's hair. I checked out many versions of this and I think of all the great pianists I have heard play this, Yundi Li has nailed it. I think this is what Beethoven intended.
.???Quit his career??? He has many recitals scheduled for 2020 which were postponed due to COVID-19. There are far more RUclipsrs who praised Yundi than disliked him. As to the ones who do, they keep saying the same things over and over again that Yundi has regressed since winning the Chopin Competition since 2000. One only has to listen to his recordings and attend his performances to know these comments are smearing ones to say the least. It is sad to hear such untrue statements spoken of toward such a great pianist of our time.
Must say he’s no longer being a pianist wholeheartedly judging by some incidents, such a shame for that talent. But I’m still grateful for what he gave us.
I do believe... This is absolutely the result of incredible intense discipline, unbelievable determination and very, very hard work- for a very long time. You are absolutely magnificent, unbelievable and fantastic. Lol from Switzerland 🇨🇭
Wow, after just one hearing of Li's Moonlight sonata and I have to say this is unlike any other. I've listened to many other interpretations over and over again and he sounds special.
*Congratulations, you’ve been randomly selected to join Boba Fett on his spacecraft to traverse the visible universe to whichever location you so desire. Choose wisely!*
There was half a year when every night I listened to the part one of Li Yundi's version and full asleep. It's so peaceful and calm. I've also listened to a dozen of other musicians' versions, but this one is ever the best for me. Thank you, Yundi!
*Congratulations, you’ve been randomly selected to join Boba Fett on his spacecraft to traverse the visible universe to whichever location you so desire. Choose wisely!*
He does look a bit like Daniel Barenboim while playing. Very expressive and nice voicing in the first movement. Clean 2nd movement. Third movement was very nicely done. Always amazed at the ability of these top level artists to memorize the music.
*Congratulations, you’ve been randomly selected to join Boba Fett on his spacecraft to traverse the visible universe to whichever location you so desire. Choose wisely!*
The negative comments are hilarious! So where are you that your not up on this stage??! Cause your not good enough thats why! So keep your criticism people and watch the master doing his work! Its perfection as close as it can be to the original! If you can do better people..... then come on right up!....
Huwsbach30 and then people are calling the Japanese guy behind the pianist a “creepy guy” like how is he even creepy? Say that to a Japanese and you’ll get in a lot of trouble because for they... they would see it as racist He’s just spectating normally, he’s not even creepy, wtf?
If you miss a deep understanding of the piece, hear barenboims version. He put more emotion into that, which i like more than yundis way of interpreting that piece
I think Yundi Li did a great job in terms of emotion. It shows the style of the Classical period but also the wavering feelings inside. In terms of "bravado" gestures with little meaning, maybe not so much. There's a difference between the two.
I enjoyed this! So elegant. I'll check out some of the other performers suggested in the comments, but every time I listen to Li I find myself quite entranced.
EVERY classical piano video is frequently commented by snobbish idiots....There is a million ways to interpret a piece. Just sit back, relax and enjoy.
Just like how people are free to interpret a piece any way they like, the audience is also free to their opinion on the player's interpretation. Sound is subjective... to an extent. Let people talk
Beautiful rendition. Maybe the "mistake" people are hearing is that there is something wrong with the damper being stuck closed on C# one octave above middle C. This song is played with a lot of pedal, so every time that note comes out staccato due to the damper problem it sounds off. After the first time you can hear that he does his best to work around it.
*Congratulations, you’ve been randomly selected to join Boba Fett on his spacecraft to traverse the visible universe to whichever location you so desire. Choose wisely!*
Curious fact: Exploration shows that Chopin`s Fantaisie-Impromptu and Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata ("Quasi una fantasia") are related. Fantaisie-Impromptu draws many of its harmonic and tonal elements from Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, which is also in C-sharp minor, in particular, the third movement. Two measures after the melody begins, an abrupt run has the same notes, one octave higher, as the cadenza in movement 3 (Presto agitato) of that work. The climax on a six-four chord is similar in both pieces. Also, the Fantaisie-Impromptu's middle part and the second movement of the Moonlight Sonata are in D-flat major. The first and third movements are in C-sharp minor.
I know Chopin borrowed elements from Beethoven, but I hear more of remanences of F-I when I listen to Moonlight than other way around. Could be just how my brain works.
He will be back! He’s on the way.
Just wonderful mousic and nicely one !
He will be back but not in china
He is the best pianist in china.
Unlike many generic versions I,ve heard through many years , this interpretation is quite unique in the fact that he almost seems to play the individual keys late which adds to the excitement and the passion only he can portray . Its actually quite clever and captivating .Thats just my opinion ............Fabulous

Yundi really brought out the feeling of moonlight, unbelievable.
最爱的云迪和最爱的曲子,好幸福!云迪永远是我们的骄傲,望他凤凰涅磐,走出低谷。
He strokes the keys like a lover. Feeling every note and embracing the melody. So gorgeous.
Ah well said!

Yes, Claudio!!!!!
I did not hear anyone play "Moonlight Sonata" so well before. Best I have heard so far !!

it's about feeling i think; really feeling, FEELING THE FEELING , FEELING IT WHILE YOU FEEL IT OK?
+Charles Shotwell no way you are eight.
+Renato Ferreira That could explain his poor judgement on the piece's difficulty and worth ;)
I’m in love with his piano 😍😍 the sweetness and delicate expression 😌 he is my favorite pianist since the international Frederic Chopin Piano Competition in 2000

yundi deserves more.
This makes me imagine Beethoven caressing his beloved's hair. I checked out many versions of this and I think of all the great pianists I have heard play this, Yundi Li has nailed it. I think this is what Beethoven intended.
One of the best versions
Dreamy... Moonlight Sonata.... I enjoyed it immensely. great pianist!
云迪!您是属于世界的!我们❤️您
I don’t get why so many hates him... it’s almost like not liking Yundi Li becomes a trend. He’s very truly talented!
I don’t think people “hate” him; it’s more about being disappointed. He has basically quit his career. He doesn’t play like this anymore.
.???Quit his career??? He has many recitals scheduled for 2020 which were postponed due to COVID-19. There are far more RUclipsrs who praised Yundi than disliked him. PEOPLE FROM US AND EUROPE ARE RACISTS. LATIN AMERICANS LIKE YUNDI LI.
@@rickhunter8216 Apparently that's not actually the reason why they "hate" him, they're just disappointed that he sort of gave up his career.
喜欢云迪和每一首作品,用灵魂演奏的艺术家
@Windows Vista Playz

I never get tired listening to Yundi! Its magical.
ユンデイの第1楽章は最高でした目をつぶって聴くとき色んな情景描写をしながら聴くのが気持ちが夢の中に居るようですね。
I never get how pianists can play with their eyes closed. It's like Yundi could drift off to sleep while playing this and still play it perfectly.
I do believe... This is absolutely the result of incredible intense discipline, unbelievable determination and very, very hard work- for a very long time. You are absolutely magnificent, unbelievable and fantastic. Lol from Switzerland 🇨🇭
He’s an amazing interpreter of Beethoven
He understands what he's playing! He gets it

Yundi's Moonlight is beautiful, romantic, and a little sweet...

This is one of the few HD MVs of Yundi's performance. Absolutely amazing! I've watched it many times. Thorough enjoyed it! Love you, Yundi!
Three years later, still the best, Yundi. Thanks.
I like him better because the emotion he put in his playing.
yep I yundi. li better
Marybeth Langendorf Do you know another Chinese pianist Lang Lang? This guy's emotion is a joke hahahahahaha
高进 what you talking about yundi li plays with way more emotion then lang lang
Lol 高进 Making funny face expressions and massacring whats written by Chopin, Debussy, Ravel and Liszt is not my idea of EMOTION....
smh.
高进 yes I know who Lang Lang is. I think he is too crazy for me. Too Showey and over the top for me.
First time I’ve listened to Yindi Li play, this was exquisite, can’t imagine why I have never heard him before, sure will in future! Australia!
这才是我心目中的“月光”,充满诗意,平静、带着淡淡的忧伤。
是啊
6:05 Second movement begins
8:14 Third movement begins
Thanks u hero.
I not need the minutes of the moments, me like the song complete.
That's nice
it's not all about you
-The Ancient One
A lot of news report says his personality isn’t too great but I like the way he plays. He doesn’t make funny weird faces like the other piano players.
He memorized the piece, CLOSED HIS EYES while playing, and played it for 15 whole minutes without missing a single note. Incredible.
No he did not close his eye the whole time at all. It just the angle your at.
He pressed missed some notes actually
lol he played a few wrong notes mostly in last movement
the most poetic rendition
Wow, after just one hearing of Li's Moonlight sonata and I have to say this is unlike any other. I've listened to many other interpretations over and over again and he sounds special.
best pianist in the world
Beautiful - Thank you

I love this man's playing. If you have not heard him play Rigoletto for piano. Please listen to it before your next breath.
There was half a year when every night I listened to the part one of Li Yundi's version and full asleep. It's so peaceful and calm. I've also listened to a dozen of other musicians' versions, but this one is ever the best for me. Thank you, Yundi!
I deed the same, but with Claudio Arrau moonlight version.
Very nice, the second and third movement he truly makes his own.
Time stands still in the beauty of the first movement.
Sweetly and simply played. Lovely to listen to this gentle piece.
so emotional I love it when musicians play an instrument like this guy
That third movement! Incredible!
I truly love how passionate he is to play the piano, this a very beautiful piano piece. I was blown away!
Still watching this in 2016... Thanks Yundi

Now I am no classical expert who can use fancy sounding words but I love his interpretation. So tranquil...
An absolute joy listening ţo this. Perfection.i wish he was my neighbor with a piano on his deck. I could listen to this all day..
Bravo. Along the ranks of Barenboim. I appreciate the controlled attack in the 3rd movement and the Chopinesque interpretation of the 1st.
特別喜歡第三樂章的感覺!太完美!
Your playing is full emotion and you play very clearly and so beautiful.
Totally amazing and jaw dropping especially the third movement
Effortless and flawless !!! Brilliant Musician this guy !!!!
i want to hug him from back while he playing.... oh my

Yundi's interpretation is magnificent.

Great performance. Yundi Li is the best.
I love playing this piece. Beethoven composed such a masterpiece. I especially like the bass part, so tranquil.
If you miss a deep understanding of the piece, hear barenboims version. He put more emotion into that, which i like more than yundis way of interpreting that piece
+LeVolVik Agree. I'd still credit Evgeny Kissin for his "out of this world" 3rd movement. Check it out it is worth it.
u r so lucky that u can play this. i want to know how to play piano but sadly i dont have a piano :(
Pine apple he is not lucky. He practiced. Y that's it! Practice, years of practice!

Exactly the pace as I ever expected.

Amazing performance!! Sooo smooth trough all the piece!
I like his style better than Barenboim. Much smoother and seems to have better control
Larry Taylor I like style Valentina Lisitsa ;)
