🎉Great news!🎉 Our brand new Sounds American website is up and running!🚀🎊 There's lots of content on pronunciation.🤓You can start with the article about the /dʒ/ sound: soundsamerican.net/article/consonant_sound_dzh_as_in_job
It blew my mind how much easier the exercise was the second time around. I needed this video because my name is Jenny and even though people in my native language always understand it correctly, I realised that foreigners think I'm saying Denny. I hope this video actually helps me fix it with some practice.
I've been looking for this sound my whole life. 95% of people mispronounce my first name, and I've tried various phonetic spellings until bumping into this sound. I'm in the 16% of g, so lucky me. Thanks for this lesson.
it's weird that you don't have a web page yet. your videos are amazing. I'll be teaching pronunciation in my country and i will use them a lot with the students that I'll have in my class.
Glad you found our videos useful! Let us know if your students like them. We'd love to get their feedback. About a web page - that's work in progress. Stay tuned!
I have seen so many videos, but yours are so far the very best. I truly believe that there is no other video out there that can make it any easier. Now it's up to me to practice. I am practicing and every time it's getting easier.😀 I watch each video like five times in a row Thank you so much for your time and let The Lord Jesus bless you.
Thanks a lot. I'm Vietnamese, I'm 10 years old and I very like learning English. You gave me an interesting knowledge and it very useful for me. By watching your video, I can improve my pronunciation and I can learn more vocabulary. I hope you can make more good and useful video like this.
Thank you, we're very glad you like our videos. We have more than 70 videos on our channel and a number of them can help you learn to pronounce most frequent and useful words for everyday life. Sure, we're going to make a lot of new videos too! Let us know if you have any questions about pronunciation!
You’re so amazing and excellent. I have to comment to say how grateful I really really am. I always check video from your channel when I can’t pronounce any words. Thank you again!!!!!!!!
in this sound I not only learned to use this sound well but I also corrected and better understood other sounds that I had already learned are Sh, Ch and Zh, Thank you so much
Welcome! -) We also post a lot of interesting things on our RUclips Community page, check it out: ruclips.net/channel/UC-MSYk9R94F3TMuKAnQ7dDgcommunity
Thank you. It is slightly confusing with the 'tf' sound at the end of words but with the help of your videos, we will succeed on pronuncing this sound. Thanks again, I appreciate it.
+stella9caro7 We certainly wish you good luck! If we may offer unsolicited advice -before the exam close RUclips (even our videos) and get as much sleep as possible! 😊👋 P.S. Keep us posted on the exam results!
Excellent teaching video!!! (I teach English to Spanish-speakers and tutor reading for elementary children just learning to read.) Some of the other videos I found that offer guidance on pronouncing the 'j' sound were helpful, but this one is by far the best. [One small critique, however: In reciting your tongue twister the speaker does not pronounce the 'j-d' sound at the end of the word "changed," so sounds like "change"; and as you undoubtedly know, it's so important for listeners to hear the 'd' sound (sometimes better sounded as a light 't') at the end of a past-tense verb, even if it's just a light touch.]
Thank you! We're glad to hear that they are helpful for teachers. Regarding the "changed" pronunciation in the tongue twister - we might have overdone it while doing the sound processing, that's why the final sounds may seem weird.
@@SoundsAmerican Thanks for the explanation. My point was a small one, and in the end, it is the overall excellent quality of your teaching video that counts. The sound of the speaker's voice and his pronunciation are clear and precise. This video is going to help a lot of people. Kudos!
Glad that our videos were helpful! Yes, we plan to resume making and posting videos soon. In the meanwhile, you can find lots of interesting stuff on our Community page here on this channel: ruclips.net/channel/UC-MSYk9R94F3TMuKAnQ7dDgcommunity

Perfect video. Now, I understand that I was very wrong. Because I thought: Yes and Job have the same initial sound. But, no. They are 2 different consonants. .... Thanks!!!
You teach too nice and meaningful I just love your video I have just see your video but it too nice I will share This too my all friends teach well keep it up
3:27 can i use front of my tongue not the tip , or arch my tongue - i use the same way for /ʒ / to make /dʒ/ first touch the roof of my mouth for /d/ sound ( the same place for /ʒ/ sound ) then release a gap for stream for /ʒ/. Thank you.
In words like age, page etc if I raise my tongue and lightly touch the alveolar ridge just before the 'j' to block the air and then I realese it to keep pronouncing the word, that kind of sounds like Im holding and it is noticeable, I also don't hear you blocking the air. I think I'm a little confused about how to hold the air before releasing it without sounding a little weird.
Well, the point is you have to completely stop the air in your mouth and then _immediately_ (this is very important) release it with friction. We know that it could be hard, but that's what the practice part is for, right? By the way, we have checked the spectrograms and there's practically no pause between /d/ and /ʒ/.
Please make a vid on silent letters that are silent only in American English, such as the letter N in the word interview, the N in the word winter and so on. Would be great to have a comprehensive list of words with the silent N, something like "top 200" and whatnot.
+Cosmic Disco Thank you for your suggestion. We'll consider it. Just a note here, the letter 'n' in the words "interview" or "winter" is not silent, it's pronounced. You may have meant the letter 't'.
