It wasn't until a bunch of new players asked for this that I realised multiplayer isn't nearly as self-explanatoy as I thought it was. Am glad this is helping people.
had a great session last night.....long flight with another Spit....hit a rail yard...then tracked some hun and joined in with another group to take them on....great fun using SRS for the first time as well....need to brush up on the lingo!
Ah these videos are awesome. Makes me very keen to get involved with the online flying in DCS again. I'm also toying with the idea of trying to score a 2nd hand 1080TI, to upgrade from my 1060 6Gb... Great video Phil. Please do keep them coming!
This is still relevant to me today. I just bought The Normandy Map just for this server and installed SRS. I now need to start learning the geography and get more hours in the Spitfire or stay in the easier handling P-51. I don't know if I should train in the server or off-line. I wouldn't want to be a hindrance to my team. I think for now I will just practice my Spitfire landings off-line.
I moved from jets to Mustang and Normandy map. Played also Il-2 CoD and BoX but DCS's warbirds are something special. Hopefully will be good enough to join the server.
There's plenty to do on the server without having to bump into other players. You will also easily find other team members who can support you too, and help protect you. So being relatively inexperienced shouldn't hurt too much. Being on SRS helps a lot.
Thanks Phil - was hoping for a landing in the A8, but like me, you find her a challenge. Haven't managed many good ones! The gear seems far to fragile imho and needs to be beefed up a bit. I am observer only at the moment, waiting for the fix to the CTD that many of us have. Not even BigNewys fix worked!
@@philstyle Hesitate to disagree, but I think curved approach and "fly" it down the runway losing airspeed is the best thing I have learned and I think applies to all WW2 Warbirds. Sure the numbers are a little different and nothing "floats" like the Spit, but the technique I am sure is sound. The 190 A8 tends to come down like a barrow full of bricks when the speed bleeds off, so I like to "wheel" it on rather than flare. You just have to watch she doesn't bounce - the gear won't take it.
Sometimes having shaky hands when have an enemy plain in crosshair while pushing trigger. VR adds a lot to it. Its not like launching AA rockets from many miles away from target.
@@geardownflapsup9344 Hah I get this as well - they're in range and I'm leading the target nicely, then as soon as I start firing I completely forget to fly the aeroplane. Grr
if you want your bombs to fall accurately on the target, you need to release them as you pull up. Dive at 30 degrees, start pulling up and release as you pass through 15 degrees pulling up, otherwise your stick of bombs will fall short. Also, for soft skin targets, use impact detonation.
So why do I randomly get "pure client needed"? Apparently it's something about corrupted files or something... It loads into the plane select screen and then kicks me out....
When you're navigating by dead reckoning, do you try and factor in wind, and have you ever been blown so far off course you've struggled to find a target?
Thanks Phil, I haven’t been able to join the SOW server for quite a while now. It doesn’t show up in my list anymore? It happened after the last update. Do you have any idea of what I should try?
Hello, I've been playing DCS for about a week in single player mode with my own AI-filled missions, and I've been wanting to get into multiplayer. I've been trying to connect to the SRS server so I can actually play in the server properly, but I can only ever get the Server and VOIP indicators to go green; I cant get SRS to connect to the game. I read on the SRS website that if I am not in a mission yet, the Game icon will not go green. I also noticed that when I spawn into the server, the dialogue on the left says: ''(my callsign): Mission has ended'' Are these connected? How can I fix this and connect SRS properly in order to communicate with the other players?
Hi do you zoom in and out? What controls do I need to bind? Also, how do you set the zoom lock, i.e when I zoom out it keeps zooming out to a ridiculous fov, How do I set my fov to be locked when zooming out.
Sorry this might be a stupid question. Are all the fighters on this server players or do you get AI fighters flying around also? I know you mentioned you can get AI wingmen. But the bomber escort the enemy fighters just seemed to spawn in. Cheers
@@philstyle Thank you very much for this video. For a beginner like me, it will help me a lot. All I have to do is become proficient in air combat and stop shooting at anything but the enemy plane.
At what task? There are two different FW190s, different from each other as well as being different from the 109. Each air frame does various different things with varying levels of competence, it's not really an easy job to declare one "better" than any other.
Bf-109 is a better pure fighter It's more forgiving in the air & at the edge of it flight envelope. It's basically a hotrod. But fairly fragile The FW-190A8 is a More modern monster The firepower of that thing is unreal. Well armored But very unforgiving & it will get killed if you don't know what you're doing at the edge.
When did you last try? Player data download used to be turned off due to lag etc. this has been turned back on for some time. There should be no issue with jetseat etc any more.
Really appreciate the video. I tried multiplayer once and had no idea what I was doing, which put me off. Hopefully see you on SoW soon

I have learned so much flying on SoW. Thank you for hosting it!
Thanks very much for this Phil. My training is coming along, and I should be ready to risk the server soon...

you can buy mine, 1080 ti, once the new 2030s hit the market. I am in europe though
Thanks. Really appreciated. Just what I needed will hopefully get time to jump on this weekend.

Great video, thank you for the help! Multi-player has bee tough to figure out. I hate flying around pointlessly, lol
That is so helpful Phil, i had worked most of it out, but there were some great tips in there
Fantastic clip
I'll give it a go sometime

Thanks so much for this vid and server. New to DCS multi so this was a huge help!
Thank you for the video, i am going to give the server a try. Thanks again.
Great videos and server. I'm just starting to fly in DCS-WWII multiplayer.
This video will be more than useful. Thx Phil
how do you not have more subscribers? your videos are fantastic. thank you

It's a little tricky on short final and touch down. I have to unlearn all spitfire techniques I think.

yes, you need to factor wind. Yes, I have blown off course.

Join via IP address.
Full details are www.stormofwar.net
Many thanks!!! I’ve found the details. I can’t believe I missed this on the site before. It’s right there :)
I cannot Join the server. Maybe it’s due to the options and setup of my game? I mean: labels, map and visuals…?
I'm new on DCS from IL2. How do you look at the map on SoW? The standard button doesn't seem to work.
F10
Is the Server only available in DCS Open Beta?
How do you know which way the river is flowing. I seen many rivers on hills only they flow down....
look a backwards b "d"
If the river traverses a ridge, one part has to be flowing up the hill.

It's the "zoom in slow" and "zoom out slow" option

There are some AI fighters, but none of the bomber escorts are AI. Anything escorting a bomber will be human.
What is the blue dot on the map ? The one with multiple blue circles.
It's the "bullseye" . . it's for the modern stuff. Not relevant for WW2 really.

Can you choose which skin you’re playing with at this server?
No. There are too many fantasy skins and if they are enabled, people fly around in FW199s with japanese markings, so historical skins are locked.
