The problem with most "pro life" in the US is not in their anti abortion stance, but rather in its partiality: if you're pro life, you might be expected to be anti war.
A small handful of people in any religion read the text. Some people simply hate it when reality clashes with their fantasy. The Bible talks about healing the sick and caring for the poor. Capitalists disdain the poor and call them worthless failures. When Jesus "cleansed the temple" he threw out the "money changers." Capitalists love their bankers and the more crooked a capitalist, the more they exploit people, the more fraud they commit, the better the profits, and the more money they make. These things are at odds.
The Bible also speaks of very limited government and that stealing and coveting are sins. It also teaches very clearly that people have different outcomes economically depending on how they spend their time. NOWHERE is government force called charity.
The bible calls for individuals to be charitable. You can do that through your vote. To devote some of the money to the betterment of society. "One who is gracious to a poor man lends to the LORD, And He will repay him for his good deed." Proverbs 19:17 Where in the bible does it say anything about limited government? "Give back to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's." Mark 12:17 Stealing and sins have nothing to do with this. We are talking about economics. If you want to talk about social issues, that is a different matter.
Concerning Augustine and what he might have looked like: there are plenty of blonde, blue-eyed Berbers and other North Africans, so it's entirely possible that Augustine inherited those traits from his mother.

the whole point of this was to discuss whether or not Christianity can be interpreted in such a way (within reason) to optimize overall happiness/social wellbeing despite extremist talking points generated from it. would be awesome if you could elaborate on said worldview and the reasons behind defending the opposing side, leaving vague comments accusing people of "being uninsightful" really doesn't add much value to the conversation.
