As a single mother at 38 years old... I've learnt that stuff just happens and if you're too focused on the plan you think you want you are closed to different opportunities. I used to be an event manager and worked crazy hours with a 3 yr old daughter, until she was 7. Then realised it was daft. Now a teaching assistant.. And I bloody love it. I'm poorer in money but richer in time.. Best decision ever. But it certainly wasn't in the plan. X
My life goals at 41, after flailing around in my career for 18 years which has amounted to nothing: try to be kind, try to do some good, try to get by, try to find some happiness. I'll be moving and starting over on my own after all this covid crap is done-ish. P.S. The cake looks great! And yummy!

In the last 6 months I opened my online clothing store on etsy and I got a job at my dream company, who I've wanted to work for since 2001 (yes I was 11) but dreams do come true. You don't have to let go of anything 🥰 I only got this job BECAUSE the world shut down. This happened all because of this. A weird series of events lead me down this way and now I'm the happiest 😁

This was soo refreshing ! Just an honest chat ! I think we are all a bit lost and it’s understandable, life is so far gone from what we were used to! Don’t be hard on yourself, when life is back to normal I’m sure we will all start to feel normal again ! I always say don’t worry about what you can’t control ! This last year has really allowed me to be me. I am an extreme introvert bordering on agoraphobic and its been really nice not having the every day pressure to fight my personality. I now realise that I dont need to be "fixed" or change who I am to fit into society, I just need to be me and if some people don't understand well, thats fine, its not my job to teach them or explain why going down the pub just isnt my thing. I now have the confidence to know living my life inside my house makes me the happiest little person ever so I shall continue even once lockdown is over 😊
I feel a bit like this but am now feeling the pressure I'm gonna be expected to go out and do things. It's like I want to see my family and friends but I've become so comfortable with the lack of expectation to have to be social!

But spring is here, I've just started a new job at a garden centre where I get to talk about plants all day and people dont tell me to shut up, things are looking up 😅👍 here's hoping that 2021 is slightly better for our mental health than last year haha
This really cheered me up, it's like hanging out with a friend except Im allowed to do it :) The big questions about do we let our dreams go seems impossible to answer in this current situation as so many opportunities are unavailable and getting inspired feels so difficult right now. The feeling of 'losing myself' is something I relate to so hard. I used to be so into make up and fashion and moving into not doing those things coupled with no longer being able to wear contact lenses has pretty much shattered any idea of who I am. I recently shelled out for new glasses and getting out my summer clothes and finally feel a shred of me again. I can't wait to feel like me again

I sort of think it’s natural though, especially after the year we’ve all had! Like you, I am a massive overthinker and it’s held me back so much in my twenties. My main goal for my thirties is to combat that, reduce stress and find the things that make me happiest in life. By the way, that cake looked 😍🤤
Any time I get a bit existential about the big life plan, I find it quite comforting to think about how my mum worked in call centres for most of her adult working life, until one day in her late 40’s she thought fuck it and bought a cafe by the sea (and completely refurbed it) and is now living her best life as a big name about town! She legit now even has a podcast where she interviews other business owners?! So wholesome 😂 just goes to show though, you never really know where you’ll end up, and can still change your life around as a grown woman! There’s a lovely illustrated book called A Glorious Freedom that you’d love- I just take a lot of comfort in knowing that there are so many people who exist who’s stories and ‘purpose in life’ only really got found in their later years💕takes the pressure off for sure!
I love these kinds of chatty videos where you're just baking or sitting down drinking tea, it feels like hanging out with a friend. At this point in the pandemic it can feel a little bit lonely (especially if you live alone like I do). I've found that my friends and have started sending each other videos of ourselves doing mundane things like washing the dishes or cooking but it definitely helps. We are definitely not made to be in our homes for a year straight, you're doing great and there is light at the end of the tunnel!!
I totally had this meltdown a couple of days ago but ended up properly upset! It does feel like all the things that make you YOU have been gone so long you don't know what you're about anymore. Happy Birthday, Adam!!!! Here is a tip for your next baking experience (based on the baking paper being draped over the cake tin in the background.) When you have a caketin that has two pieces: put the backing paper over the bottom part, and put the top part on as per usual. Then you will have covered the bottom, and you can then just cut away the exsess paper around it, after you have locked the top in place. Just butter the sides, and the cake will come out easly 😘😘😘 The cake looks great!!! God job!

I think so many people have been feeling lost honestly, i've pretty much accepted just going with the flow for now which is significantly less stressful than before hahaha. But there's also a beauty in rediscovering your style and your passions, it'll come naturally and i'm really trying to not pressure myself in figuring everything out :) We'll all get there eventually

Dear Lucy, Apart from finding you absolutely hilarious, the reason your content resonates with me so deeply is because we have the same theme of existential dread in our lives. One key point I keep trying to remind myself lately is that always wondering what the point is, what's next, what am I going on for, really prevents me from enjoying my life in the now. I think the goal we should be striving for is to be content with the unknown. As much as I fear not knowing what I'm doing or what the purpose is, I think the voice of fear around looking back and realizing that I worried my way out of happiness in the moment is more critical to listen to. As always, sending you love from across the pond.
I have to say that I think we all agree that we've sort of lost the plot to our lives this past year. I lost the plot way back when, so I feel even more behind. I'm a nearly 40 yr old back in college, so there you go. I think the habit of over thinking has been amplified by all this nonsense and not seeing the people that ground us in such a long time makes things even worse. Here's hoping it goes away soon and we can hug all our friends and family soon. Also, I've loved (!!!!) your videos lately. I totally understand what you mean about wanting to have a sort of life plan even if you don't want a fully fledged one. I think it helps to have really small goals (like I want to cook at home on weekdays and only get 1 takeaway a week, or I want to save up to buy XYZ kind of expensive adult thing) because it helps to sort of ground your goals in reality.
I have also been nannying for just over a year and my nephew will be 1 by the end of next week, eek! 2020 simultaneously feels like it lasted an eternity but also only 5 minutes!

I’ve been feeling super similar about being lost and uncertain about the future and how I’m going to spend my life. I graduated high school last year and now that I’m in college the pressure of not knowing what I’m going to do and the endless possibilities of the future is daunting. I totally had this meltdown a couple of days ago but ended up properly upset! It does feel like all the things that make you YOU have been gone so long you don't know what you're about anymore. I've had writing to do that's taken up all of my free time (on top of already being stuck in the pandemic) so between writing, my job, and a little bit of Netflix, I don't know who I am or what I'm good at or what I enjoy...

I totally get what you're talking about, I feel like before Covid I was striving toward a lot of things and had some kind of a plan, but it all went to hell and now I'm just kinda floating through space trying to figure out what I want but nothing really feels important because I pretty much lost all motivation for planing, so for right now I decided that I'm not gonna plan anything and just see how things go.

Here is a tip for your next baking experience (based on the baking paper being draped over the cake tin in the background.)
When you have a caketin that has two pieces: put the backing paper over the bottom part, and put the top part on as per usual. Then you will have covered the bottom, and you can then just cut away the exsess paper around it, after you have locked the top in place. Just butter the sides, and the cake will come out easly 😘😘😘 The cake looks great!!! God job!

This resonated so much with me... I also lost part of my identity because of the pandemic, thought not the same, but the feeling of being over productive and doing 100 thousand things at a time nonstopping and know... got nothing I that also made me felt lost. One word had help me a lot: reborn.

HOW do you always manage to put into words how I’m feeling. I’ve been feeling completely lost both as a human and questioning my purpose ect. Disney really do be hitting me too! I watched Soul and it just made me realise I’ve lost my thing, my spark. This year has a lot to answer for!

I think so many people have been feeling lost honestly, i've pretty much accepted just going with the flow for now which is significantly less stressful than before hahaha. But there's also a beauty in rediscovering your style and your passions, it'll come naturally and i'm really trying to not pressure myself in figuring everything out :) We'll all get there eventually

Apart from finding you absolutely hilarious, the reason your content resonates with me so deeply is because we have the same theme of existential dread in our lives. One key point I keep trying to remind myself lately is that always wondering what the point is, what's next, what am I going on for, really prevents me from enjoying my life in the now. I think the goal we should be striving for is to be content with the unknown. As much as I fear not knowing what I'm doing or what the purpose is, I think the voice of fear around looking back and realizing that I worried my way out of happiness in the moment is more critical to listen to. As always, sending you love from across the pond.

I have to say that I think we all agree that we've sort of lost the plot to our lives this past year. I lost the plot way back when, so I feel even more behind. I'm a nearly 40 yr old back in college, so there you go. I think the habit of over thinking has been amplified by all this nonsense and not seeing the people that ground us in such a long time makes things even worse. Here's hoping it goes away soon and we can hug all our friends and family soon. Also, I've loved (!!!!) your videos lately. They've kept me sane with all this homework I've been doing (my son and my own). Keep up the great work. You're killin' it!

I turned 31 yesterday, and being an actress by trade I’m feeling the exact same way as you. It’s so easy to feel lost at the moment but trust that you are on the right path! I totally understand what you mean about wanting to have a sort of life plan even if you don't want a fully fledged one. I think it helps to have really small goals (like I want to cook at home on weekdays and only get 1 takeaway a week, or I want to save up to buy XYZ kind of expensive adult thing) because it helps to sort of ground your goals in reality.
I have also been nannying for just over a year and my nephew will be 1 by the end of next week, eek! 2020 simultaneously feels like it lasted an eternity but also only 5 minutes!

I’ve watched your videos for a couple of years now and have never felt really big on comments, but I really connected with how you felt in this video and felt like now was as good of a time as ever lol. I’ve been feeling super similar about being lost and uncertain about the future and how I’m going to spend my life. I graduated high school last year and now that I’m in college the pressure of not knowing what I’m going to do and the endless possibilities of the future is daunting. All is to say that I felt really seen and a lot better after tuning in to this video. I appreciate how honest and open you are. I’m sure we’ll both figure out our dreams and be alright in the end, I’m rooting for both of us :)
