Good old MK262.... The 77SMK at 556 velocity has been an awesome performer on the battlefield for the US Army since 2004.... only recently was replaced by the M855A1.

I have seen the reviews here and elsewhere with factory loaded Sierra ammo struggling. My experience with Sierra components for handloading though, has me in love with them. This video adds to the cockpit hash marks for them. I am fairly certain all their product lines are descendents of gameking and varminter soft points, hollows, spitzers, and now tipped also, even when it is called "match" which their product descriptions point to even in detail.
The Sierra 77gr SMK is what is loaded By Black Hills to to create M262 Mod1 for the DOD. The original loading was with a Nosler CC bullet because Sierra would not provide a 77 with a cannalure.
Thanks fir the intro to the case company. Far more interested in those as components than the load itself. Excellent results as expected tho. Smk are good beans.
Tools&Targets, I can’t find anyone that’s tested a Grizzly 460 S&W Magnum 300 gr BCFP ammo on RUclips. I’d love to see you be the first to test it since you have that caliber and have tested that brand of ammo before in 10mm.
Nice Shellshock + Sierra Matchkings cant be a bad combo. Great to see this test Tools. Its really amazing how that 16" boolit fragments and stops penetrating at 8-12" of penetration. It Really shows the difference in Pistol and Rifle ammo, and the hydrostatic shock part of the rifle cartridge. That is what is really devastating over all the slower fps pistol calibers IMHO.
That shot out of the 16" barrel, most of the bullet and copper jacket actually blew out of the bottom of the ballistics gel. Check out the different frames at about the 9:25 mark and you'll it with the slow motion.

In a defense situation you aren't looking to hit the target perfect, you're hoping to hit the target often and you did exactly that, either way the target went to forever sleep lol. I have a heavy barrel saber defense are 15 with a light 2 stage trigger (2,000.00) CAD a decade ago , IT does 1.5 inch groups with handloads. My 800 dollar CAD savage m11 with mdt chassi in .223 gets 0.5 inch groups with said handloads. I give up on trying for accuracy with the ar platform.
That was a solid performance! The accuracy from modern ars is really impressive. I just built a complete aero build and was getting around 1.5” groups with some cheap psa 75gr ammo off a bag. If I’m not mistaken the ammo tested today performed like old school m193.
Pretty good stuff 👍🏻 I don't run match bullets really but I keep some put back usually.. I prefer soft points & lighter hollow points but heavy match bullets & FMJ can definitely get the job done also I would lean more towards heavy match rounds over fmj though
The ammo shines in short barrels. And also is very accurate compared to standard ball, so it’s useful for the extra 200 yards from 400-600. A 4moa will print 24 in at a minimum which won’t work. Even 2 moa and you have a 50%.
99% of the people running an AR will never even come close to engaging anything at over a couple hundred yards. At that point, the ammo will be the least of most folks worries.

You're not wrong about the humidity, it was so bad yesterday I had to swim through it to get to the car. I'm a bit south of you and there's so much moisture in the air a fish just swam past my living room window 🐟🐠. IIRC my first mag for (defend the Alamo type situations) are Hornady Critical Defense. If that doesn't end the threat all the other mags are full of green tips.
The longer barrel shot into the jello was brutal. I use .223 that the local cop shot uses. 55gr soft point. I have some .556 because it makes the wifey feel safer. I'll argue with you about your accuracy on the wobble bench. It was darn good shootin. Thanks for the test.

Nice! There is absolutely no way I could go back to regular ear muff style at this point. No sweaty ears, no banging into the gun stock. I did a full review video on them a while back but if you haven't seen that, I would personally recommend using the cylinder shaped foams they send and the biggest ones you can squeeze in your ears. They might be a little uncomfortable at first if you're not used to using in-ear type, but they will fit perfect after having them in a few times and the cylinder ones give protection from the biggest/loudest stuff I own.
I like it and I’ve always thought it’s a waste to run 5.56 out of anything shorter than 16” but this seems like something that performs great even on a shorty with the heavy for caliber bullet weight And that’s tremendous accuracy for the setup you’re running Definitely something I’m going to try and get my hand on for pigs and yotes

I would have loved to see the 243 Win loads I hand loaded back in high school would have done in gel. I had the 85 gr Sierra BTHP at about 3150 to 3200 fps and would blow up a ground hog at 200+ yards. It was pretty hot, maybe a bit high pressure. I think the powder was IMR 3031. It would get 1 MOA or better out of my rifle.
@@ToolsandTargets I would love to see if a hand loader could duplicate that load. I think it was only 36 gr of powder or so. That was in the late 80s out of a Winchester model 70. I think they still make the bullet. Got to be careful hand loading though, I cannot even find that load in a manual today with 3031 but I am sure there is a powder that can substitute or be better.
I've seen at about 2700 the heavy otm's just 'NADE when they hit squishy stuff. If you're looking for massive energy dump, there ya go. If you're looking for a double hole for a blood trail, look elsewhere.

I’d be afraid they would wear out the extractor of my rifle too quickly. One of the reasons I have a love/hate relationship with Sig is because I’ve worn out extractors on 3 different polymer copies with the soft Russian steel case ammo. I’m sure the plethora of AR extractors means some would wear quickly and how do you know compatibility in advance? Just not worth the risk.

That's only with mil spec ball. TSX has loads that will do it down to 1800. Soft point will expands at those speeds as well.

WW2 M1 Garands were considered accurate (especially for battle), yet acceptable accuracy was 4-5" at 100yds.

I recently built an upper with a BA 18” SPR. She shoots super smooth - less recoil. Would highly recommend even if your not wanting to shoot match
I have a few longer ones with mid/rifle gas systems. Gonna use an 18" on the 85 grain test of these.😎👊

Have you tested the IMI 77gr RazorCore? Same projectile. Stunningly accurate way out past typical 5.56 distances.

I’d be afraid they would wear out the extractor of my rifle too quickly. One of the reasons I have a love/hate relationship with Sig is because I’ve worn out extractors on 3 different polymer copies with the soft Russian steel case ammo. I’m sure the plethora of AR extractors means some would wear quickly and how do you know compatibility in advance? Just not worth the risk.
The funny thing is, they claim less extractor wear. 🤷♂️
