Thanks for the positive feedback - it really means a lot to me. And please don't treat my negative comments about the GV70 as a bad thing. They're just compromises Hyundai had to make to compete against other competitors and all cars have drawbacks. All said, you'll REALLY like the GV70. It's been one of my favorites so far.
Nice detailed review. Just had my "painless" one year concierge service on my 2022 GV70 3.5 sport Prestige, never left my home, they dropped off a GV80 while they did the one year service. The 3.5 Sport Prestige more than holds its own against the Germans with a way better warranty. While the 2.5 will be the volume seller, the 3.5 in Sport Prestige trim is "special", great fit and finish, beautiful design and 0-60 in 4.7 per Road & Track. Genesis is on a win streak..............
Wow thanks for sharing! I only got to test drive the 2.5t so I could only imagine what a beast the 3.5t would be! How does the body handle the power though. Does it still feel very planted on the ground during hard acceleration?
@@vex123 Yes, the ELSD, wider tires and electronic road preview suspension do a good job. It's not a sport car, but it fits in with BMW X3 M40i, Audi SQ5 and MB GLC43. Totally! The BMW M and Mercedes AMG series have higher performance but it lacks comfort - your back will definitely ache after a long drive. The Genesis took advantage and filled the niche with high quality ride comfort without compromising too much on performance either. Also to add, people who have bought the GV70 absolutely love them! Thanks for the positive feedback. I try to make my reviews unbiased as much as possible to show that no car is perfect. Glad you found the review helpful.
I always love this car whenever I see it on the road. What gave me pause are those weird round exhaust holes in the back. The back looks so much better on the electrified version of this beautiful suv.
Yup! Genesis really gives you a run for your money. There are a few people on my reddit thread and comments on here who bought one and absolutely love it!
I really don't understand the claim of copy-cat design. The bottom panels are different, the lights are different and even the exhaust layout is different looking back on Porsche of the same year and previous years of before the launch of the GV70. Even the leading rear haunch line and the way the rear quarter glass extends far into the back with a thin back c-pillar, is not remotely similar. If anything, the newer Porsche adopted more of a GV70 look on the bottom diffuser panels moving it up more into the bumper area after the GV70 year launch and not before. I own a GV70 2023 and my neighbor has a 2022 Porsche Macan, they are distinctively easy to tell apart next to each other. The only thing I can see similar is the rear window and the spoiler on top, but even the GV70 spoiler is shaped differently, thicker with a brake light in it.
What is interesting to me is that reviewers ALWAYS say Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis are copying other brands designs. They usually fail to mention that the designers are the same designers. This guy mentions it, but still says they're copying...that makes no sense. The two tier lights is a signature Genesis thing and now a few other brands have adopted them (BMW 7 Series and X7) no one says they're copying though. They always knock the non-European brands for not being as refined even though the Japanese and Korean brands are FAR more reliable.
Thanks for the positive notes. I haven't driven every single cross-over out there, but I can share my experiences with the ones I have at a similar pricepoint. Alfa Romeo Stelvio - A bit less luxurious, but does a lot better in the handling department and gives you a much more overall sportier experience in both looks and feel. BMW X3/5 - Just like any other BMW/German brands, very performance oriented. Still luxurious, but you'll definitely feel a much more harsh driving feel as a result. But their powertrain is top notch. Jaguar F-Pace - I would say the GV70 probably resembles this the closest, but the F-Pace has better handling. It's also got an all-aluminum chassis and the overall drive does also feel pretty solid/unique. But I would say the GV70's electronics especially the infotainment/media system and overall experience is much better with the GV70 Mercedes GLC - Haven't driven many of them, but they have a similar feel to the German brands alike BMW. Volvo XC60 - Very pristine luxurious interior and a pretty complex powertrain that tries to strike all balances between performance and efficiency, but the GV70 is still drives a lot smoother and has better electronics. All said, I think the GV70 really created a unique niche that differentiates them from the crowd quite a bit. The handling is still OK with a few minor quirks, but everything else it does well (comfort, luxury, electronics) makes up for it. Hope this helps!
I really loved your unbiased honest review. I want to know what the cons are so when I test drive, I'll be aware of them and decide then and there if it's a deal breaker for me. I would hate to buy a car and then notice I hate something afterwards.

There isn't really a better or worse car. Just what you get for the price. But the Genesis GV70 does exceptionally well in comfort and electronics. But BMW X3/X4 and Audi and Mercedes AMG series will have higher performance.
The Genesis brand is really a leader not so much in performance, but in comfort, and electronics. The GV70 was one of the smoothest and most comfortable rides I've test driven for a while and their electronics such as the infotainment system and other displays are impeccable in terms of responsiveness and ergonomics. The overall design and aesthetics are OK and it's not at the same performance level as the German rivals like BMW M and Mercedes AMG, but the level of comfort more than makes up for it in its attempt to fill a niche. The GV70 is also an amazing bang for the buck especially if you compare it with the Macan. Base model of the GV70 is both more powerful and significantly cheaper than the base Porsche Macan! Hope this helps and above all, thanks for subscribing as well. I really appreciate the support!
What about reliability ? Great car by looks, but when speaking about performance, don’t forget reliability, please! Will this car give me problems 3 months owning it? That’s what I care about most
Absolutely! The GV70 is still very new; however, the brand itself and the entirety of the automotive sector have really come along way in terms of reliability. Even BMW and other German brands which were once plagued with reliability issues now have a significantly better track record. The good news is that The GV70 comes with powertrain coverage for up to 10 years or 100,000 miles and complimentary scheduled maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles as of 2023 models. This is usually more generous than what other automakers are offering in a similar class, which can also be used as an indicator for reliability. Hope that helps!
For MY 2022, the main difference between the Advanced and Sport Prestige is the engine (2.5L 4Cyl Turbo vs Twin-Turbo V6). The power difference is quite significant (300hp vs 375), but of course that also compromises weight and fuel efficiency for the latter. Nevertheless, smaller turbocharged engines have come a long way and strike a good balance of performance and efficiency. Unless you're an adrenaline junkie, I'd go with the smaller engine. In terms of materials, I only got to experience the leather interior. I didn't really like the light brown tone under test, but the leather was very soft to the touch, which also may or may not jive with others. But there's suppose to be more choices for MY2023. Definitely check it out in person first. Hope this helps!
It was piano black - I don't really like it because it gets dirty really fast as you can see in some of the closeup shots. I didn't have too much complain about the size/feel of the steering wheel though. It felt quite nice and the power steering/handling felt very smooth and light - whole car felt like driving on a cloud literally. Hope this helps!
