There have already been several "ban FFS" comments. Understand that this live stream has *nothing* to do with FFS or its effects on bass. I'll be honest, the willful ignorance of leaving a comment without hearing what Dr. Sammons has to say about what is most likely the issue that will ultimately lead to the extinction of many black bass species is outstanding. I implore you to actually listen and learn.
1:24:03 - is where the discussion of black bass extinction starts for anyone to impatient to listen to the entire conversation.

Great podcast Alex, it is funny that this discussion happened when it did. A few days ago me and my dad were discussing how much fishing has changed since he was a kid, with that being said we are from Alabama and he mentioned most ponds and lakes in our area had smallmouth at one time, then largemouth become more dominant and finally Spotted Bass. It was just cool hearing him talk about it and how I’ve noticed since I was a kid the population of Spots compared to largemouth.

Great interview. Sammons has a ton of knowledge when it comes to black bass species.

Steve was just about to address the possibility of them(alabama bass) getting into the great lakes via Erie, I wish he hadn't been cut off! I do wonder however if they could survive the extreme winters in areas like Michigan/Wisconsin and Minnesota?

The possibility is 100% there if someone transports them there is what he was getting to. Alabama bass go where people take them. Also as for the temps we don’t know but by all indications that can survive those extreme temps.

@@AlexRuddFishing That would suck beyond belief. I do wonder if that's the case, why they haven't spread naturally up here already if they could, but then again they hadn't spread east either, so yeah there's that. Hopefully they won't make it this far OR at some point the environment gets difficult enough to slow or stop them, but that obviously hasn't happens yet either. We have enough problems with invasives(gobies, mussles, bighead/silver carp, the list goes on), but the loss of smallmouth from the core of their native range would be an absolute tragedy.

To put it simply, they can’t “naturally” move because they don’t have lungs or legs. As Dr. Sammons said, what keeps the species separate is isolation due to physical boundaries. People are moving Alabama bass. That’s the only way they are moving from one completely disconnected body of water to another.

@@AlexRuddFishing gotcha, I didn't catch the total physical boundary aspect. I was thinking of them moving up the Mississippi system into the great lakes but if the original systems are completely cut off that would make sense! Generally sucks all the way around.

Called facts. Don't really care if you approve or not. The tournaments and the use of ffs is ruining fishing . Ever hear of working yourself out of a job?
