My two quakers (boy and a girl) are in that puberty stage you're talking about, and they sure are 'biting balls of energy' these days. But I think it's more of a phase, and will come to pass (as everything in life does). Sure, all of us have days when we think "I cant deal with this sh*t today", but we have to remember the operative word is 'today'. Some days, it's the birds that are truly being difficult, while other days it's actually US that are being difficult (or less willing to deal with THEM being difficult, anyway). Nobody is a bottomless barell of patience day in and day out. That's all we need to keep in mind on the bad days. Too many people think of a difficult few days with their pet as an indication of a potentially difficult lifetime ahead. This ready jump to conclusions is the reason behind a majority of pet abandonments and re-homings. So, as much as we ask people to put research and thought into adopting an animal (as opposed to doing so on impulse), we need to ask them to put the same (if not more) research and thought before making the decision to give them up. Rehomings can involve just as much impulsive/reckless decision-making as adoptions, and sometimes even more so. Parents deal with difficult kids all the time. Even the more well-behaved toddler is worse than an ill-behaved bird, any given day, and yet, they don't so quickly 'rehome' their human toddlers now, do they? 🤣 At least, I sure hope not 😂😂😂 Jokes aside, why should it be any different when it comes to an animal that you have willingly taken in and committed to love as if they were your offspring? And, if you are going to say that, "its because they're lesser beings than human children and are more disposable", then I suggest with that mindset, you should consider not adopting any kind of animal in the first place.
This was so so beautifully written and so much truth to it, thank you for sharing this 🥺 its so true and ive told people that before too! You wouldn’t just give up your kid because they are being difficult? Yet people like to make themselves believe, “oh its different!” Or “are you seriously comparing an ANIMAL to a human child?” Like yes they are both living things with feelings and deserving of love. You must be extremely prideful to think one life is above another.

The biting behaviours and patterns described are similar to lovebirds. I think most exotic birds have similar characteristics and behaviours. Some are more open to all family members while others are more prone to one person.
@@orin9920 I think of lot of birds have similarities like sun conures and green cheek conures have a lot in common asides from the physical aspect obviously. Lovebirds are sassy and nip a lot like conures and quakers and need constant attention and interactions. They have their own personalities, likes and dislikes, of course, but overall, have similarities in behaviours. I own two lovebirds as well and a GCC.
@@PascaleLaurent81 thank you for your opinion! I've started with my lovebird I have for 10 years now and in the future wanted to continue with a bit larger parrot (quaker or a conure) so I'm doing a lot of research. Now he is so well behaved, trained and mostly calm despite being chaotic and aggressive at the start. We've been through a lot when I rescued him... So I truly hope this shows me I'm built for parrots that can be loving, attention seeking, yet sassy, mean and nippy...and in the future can make another one like them happy :)

@@AmirA-qo3jv My best suggestion then is to just try to act like its a new bird and you are going to rebond. Sometimes with quakers they can get pissed that you left home for too long, that they are in a cage for too long, they dont like their toys, etc. If you do choose that you think they are better off with another person just be certain they are an experienced owner :)
My quaker is blue and she is really really calm and sweet i was honestly wondering if she even had puberty because she is almost never hormonal and her personality never got mean even during her age
My cockatiel was kind of like that when he was a few years old, and still sometimes likes to bite toes and fingers if it’s in the way but def better at 11. So I’m guessing getting a Quaker wouldn’t be too diff esp since I’m older and have more experience? I felt a connection w a Quaker at a store and want to adopt but not sure if they will bond w my cockatiel
Just keep in mind quaker bites are much harder than cockatiels, even their playful bites can be ouchie but you get used to it 😅 Make sure not to cage the quaker with the cockatiels and if they are out to always supervise them together as quakers are temper-mental compared to cockatiels who are passive and calm and the quaker can easily hurt the cockatiel if they start fighting
@@mimisbirdhouse okay thank you, if I get one I definitely wouldn’t put them together but my cockatiel is mostly free roam in my room so I would just have to be there when there out together.

But a lot of times she doesn’t want to when I need her to. I know it’s a short time that I have had her but if I need to leave the house I need to put her in her cage. Also I have not found a treat that would motivate her. She doesn’t play with any toys. I have been trying to introduce toys but she is afraid of everything. She came from a person that had other birds and I think the other birds would attack her. She is very sweet and I am learning a lot with your videos. Do you suggest any treats that she may like? And also how I can get her to step up all the time?
Its possible you quaker is Like Luza. Super stubborn when she knows i need to leave and just clings onto me. The ONLY treat that worked for her was Nutriberries. She goes crazy for them and its the only bribe. I also always tell her bye bye and ill be back as I leave. Associating that word and the treat to put her down has taught her to let me go and i’ll be back (took time though)
I found my quaker (wild) parrot weak on the streets two months ago so I’m not sure if he is either a young or old parrot. I do think he is young because when I play with him he does the wings flapping/head bobbing thing like a baby parrot. He never bites hard or super hard but if I start to experience hard biting from him then I will know why thanks to your video 😆
Oh man im glad you came across to rescue that baby! Would you say they typically turn on their bonded bird when they hit puberty? I’ve a 3 year old GCC and I got a baby Quaker a few months back, they’re super close and attached to each other but kept in separate cages
I personally have never had that issue. They only went for my life. If they were aggravated they would tell the other to keep away, but because they were super bonded they never turned on each other. More like bickered 😂
Can you make a video on how to give quakers attention when they want it, my quaker will come up and ask for attention but I don’t always know what to do when she just comes up and is like do something with me

i have a lutino quaker and she’s a sweet cuddlebug! she’s very friendly to nearly every member of my family, she was scared of them before, she’s quite a skittish bird, but got used to them quickly. while preening one of us she can lightly bite in a playful manner and laugh (cuz i always laugh whenever she does that). even during hormonal periods she behaves well, but veeery horny. recently i got a lovebird from friends who no longer could care for him as they were moving to another country. i worried that my quaker and this lovebird wouldn’t get along, but nope, they quickly became friends. perhaps my bird is a charming angel.. or a little manipulator who behaves well for snacks and attention 😂 either way i don’t mind even if she misbehaves a bit for funsies, i feel lucky to have her in my life 💛

@@susannemichelsen8879 sounds similar to mine haha! Yes its so cute when they carry stuff in an out i find it such a good game for quakers specifically. And ive been getting better thank you for asking. Haha Luza was just trying to hide the quaker secrets 😂 did not want anyone hearing it 😂
@mimisbirdhouse I am glad you are feeling a bit better. It was so sudden and we love these little creatures so much.
I have a blue quaker, who bites my visitors, and breeding season is a nightmare, she's so noisy
Good to know it applies to every color of quaker 😅😂
The biting behaviours and patterns described are similar to lovebirds. I think most exotic birds have similar characteristics and behaviours. Some are more open to all family members while others are more prone to one person.
I've wondered if Quaker parrots are truly similar to lovebirds. I'm owning one and I also feel the traits are similar...
It's important for me to know if their nature is similar to something I've dealt with my lovebird to determine if I'm ready or know what I might be dealing with...
@@orin9920 if you can handle the chaotic, boldness behaviour of a lovebird. You can handle a Quaker if you don’t mind them being chatter boxes lol I wish you the best I can sense you’re a good person and a good companion for your bird.
i’m asian and my grandma always scolds my quaker so it isn’t rlly mean
As long as its a soft scolding like a firm no or giving them some time to cool down😅
jajaajaja me encantan esos momentos que se quedan inmovil, siempre le digo al mio momento de fallo en la matrix HAHAAHAH
Ajajaja 😂 nosotros decimos se fue a la planeta mars, aterrice!!!
Beautiful birds have a senegal parrot his name is anir 💚goodluck for you
Awww Senegals are so beautiful 🥹
If I could take time back I wouldn’t get a Quaker, he was fine when he was very young but now he’s 3 and all he does is try to attack me and screams all the time. It’s coming to a stage that for me to give him up
Im so sorry to hear that 😕 if you want to give it another go my best advice is to treat the situation as if you just got a new bird and new to gain its trust. Its possible something may have caused a trust break
@@mimisbirdhouse idk I didn’t do anything wrong he would cuddle up with under my neck but now he would literally run to kill me
@@AmirA-qo3jv My best suggestion then is to just try to act like its a new bird and you are going to rebond.
Sometimes with quakers they can get pissed that you left home for too long, that they are in a cage for too long, they dont like their toys, etc.
If you do choose that you think they are better off with another person just be certain they are an experienced owner :)
@@mimisbirdhouse he’s always out of his cage he has new toys all the time but still hates me 😂
@@AmirA-qo3jv oh no 😭 im so sorry i dont know what else to suggest 😔
My quaker is blue and she is really really calm and sweet i was honestly wondering if she even had puberty because she is almost never hormonal and her personality never got mean even during her age
HO SO THE THEORY MAY BE CORRECT!!! Ever since someone pointed it out im really questioning it, ive always seen the other colors so calm
@@mimisbirdhouseive noticed yellow quakers are legit evil the 2 ive seen are the meanest ive ever seen
@@mimisbirdhouse i have also seen the blue, green and yellow color, they were cute
Just keep in mind quaker bites are much harder than cockatiels, even their playful bites can be ouchie but you get used to it 😅
Make sure not to cage the quaker with the cockatiels and if they are out to always supervise them together as quakers are temper-mental compared to cockatiels who are passive and calm and the quaker can easily hurt the cockatiel if they start fighting
@@mimisbirdhouse okay thank you, if I get one I definitely wouldn’t put them together but my cockatiel is mostly free roam in my room so I would just have to be there when there out together.
I have a 5 month old Quaker . I have only had her for almost 2 weeks. I have been working with her on step up which she does well with when she wants to.
Id highly recommend if you havnt already to take them to the vet as they can could have illness, be malnourished, etc.
You can find on my channel many things like how to understand their body language, diet changes and whatever else you need. If you have questions or need advice please feel free to message me :)
It definitely helps having a 2nd bird
Especially them being bonded. Otherwise its a jealousy issues 😂
5:11 im dying
I almost couldn’t finish editing the video because I was laughing so hard at this😂
Would you say they typically turn on their bonded bird when they hit puberty? I’ve a 3 year old GCC and I got a baby Quaker a few months back, they’re super close and attached to each other but kept in separate cages
I personally have never had that issue. They only went for my life. If they were aggravated they would tell the other to keep away, but because they were super bonded they never turned on each other. More like bickered 😂
Can you make a video on how to give quakers attention when they want it, my quaker will come up and ask for attention but I don’t always know what to do when she just comes up and is like do something with me
Honestly they want your eyes on them, you talking to them, scratchies if they ask for it. Thats pretty much a good start. I have a video on keeping quakers entertained ; ruclips.net/video/i2RngQnuDlA/видео.htmlsi=4vL6LXJHpiDPyRN1
Okay thank you ive seen that video so many times its just a little hard when she wants me to entertain her😊
@@Benjamin_Gilbert-Lif us entertaining is basically not being allowed to put our attention anywhere else except them 😂
Where is kiwi??
Any advice on making a quaker more aggressive?
I dont know if thats a typo but please don’t make them more aggressive
@@mimisbirdhousemostly a joke but I do want to teach her to attack people on command, she lets me grab and throw her like a pokeball so i always have this fantasy of saying starly i choose you use peck and then she pecks my dads forehead…its stupid and a bad idea but its really funny
@@Benjamin_Gilbert-Lif I want to really highly recommend against this. You dont want your parrot violent or aggressive. They will not be good to guests, to you, to family and it enhances every point ive made about them. If you teach them biting is okay then they will think its always okay
i have a lutino quaker and she’s a sweet cuddlebug! she’s very friendly to nearly every member of my family, she was scared of them before, she’s quite a skittish bird, but got used to them quickly. while preening one of us she can lightly bite in a playful manner and laugh (cuz i always laugh whenever she does that). even during hormonal periods she behaves well, but veeery horny.
recently i got a lovebird from friends who no longer could care for him as they were moving to another country. i worried that my quaker and this lovebird wouldn’t get along, but nope, they quickly became friends. perhaps my bird is a charming angel.. or a little manipulator who behaves well for snacks and attention 😂 either way i don’t mind even if she misbehaves a bit for funsies, i feel lucky to have her in my life 💛
I am seeing evidence from comments about the statement of only green quakers being this evil 😂 oh my goodness 😂
Im happy to hear about your lovely birds though and im glad they get along 🥰
Yeah its caiques is pronounced the way you did it in this video its the same pronunciation as the slur against Jewish ppl, which as a Jew….makes me oddly happy
Yes finally! No wonder years back when I called the pet store they were so confused why I was asking if they had a caique (cake) 😂
And really I had no idea!
a quaker parrot and jealousy. like a match to gasoline. they get jealous of attention given to the other birds and phone calls to relatives. my girlfriend can be talking to her sister who lives in another state. my qp will jump on her head and bite and pull hair. have to put him back in the bird room when that happens. does this happen to some of you?
100% happens to me. She will get really mad about all the things you named. Start biting, tearing holes in shirts and ripping hair. Im trying to teach her to not do that, it has calmed down a bit so not as bad but I def dont trust her around strangers
Yup me too
