I finally understood what the update does 5 minutes into the video (you explained what a cache is very neatly, but I needed to see the diagrams to make me understand! :)). It will be very handy not to have to get the USB cable out every time! Thanks so much for this presentation, Marc.
@MRFThorne I think this update will encourage more people to update to the latest OS since it will be easier to identify, download, and install, which is generally a good idea. I'm happy to see them invest in their support software like this to make life that much easier for their users.
One tip, if you want to utilize Nord Sound Manager cache feature then make sure to increase cache size in app preferences as in default it just set to 1GB and will remove downloaded files based on last download date.
@dikamilo Ximmo, yes, great tip! My other piece of advice would be to keep your Nord OS up to date and also keep the Nord Sound Manager itself up to date.
Great Video. Note that if you have the old version of the Sound Manager on your Mac the Sound Libraries do not show up on the new version. Was driving me crazy. As soon as I deleted the old version and reinstalled version 9 everything was fine.
@@MyKeysToMusic When you install the newest version on the Mac it doesn’t remove the old version. Ironically the old version automatically gets superseded on the Mac “dashboard “ by the new version. So by default I started up the new version. Following your video…..NADA. No instruments in the pulldown therefore no sounds. I don’t know why but I went to the FINDER I found both versions. I deleted both and reloaded version 9 and Viola! Everything showed properly. The only explanation I can come up with is version 9 was using some data from the old version. Hope this helps.
thanks for the video . Something i clearly don't get is how i retrieve these samples in my nord then ? I found that with right click on the sample in NSM i have the "Select in Instrument", which activates well the layer in my nord ? but where is the prorgram ? does it mean we can't use this sample without connecting the nord with nord sound manager ? thanks
@matris-v1b In order to access a new sample installed from the Nord Library, you have to associate it with a new or existing program on the Nord already. Or you can create a new program on the Nord and then come back to the Nord Sound Manager and "link" the new sample to it. Another option is to go directly to the keyboard, find an existing program or create a new one, and then select the newly installed sample from the list on the Nord. Once selected, simply "Store As" (hold the shift button and then select the red Store button) to lock in that program along with the currently selected sample.
Thank you for this great video. I have one question. I am a new owner of Nord Electro 6D. I downloaded the Nord sound manager for my Mac. But when I connect the instrument it is not showing in the manager program. It is visible in my computer, but the Nord sound manager is still telling me to “connect your instrument”. I tried everything. Have you ever facing this issue? Thank you.
@clairk2890 Congrats on your new Nord Electro 6D! Ensure you are using the USB cable from the Nord to the computer and that the Nord is on. Also, make sure you are not using a USB hub in between, which can sometimes cause issues.
I am using the cable that they recommended me in the shop. One end is MIDI in & out and the other end is USB. Is it correct or should I use different cable? Thanks!
@@clairk2890 That recommended cable will work fine for MIDI, but it won't work for OS updates, program and sample transfers. For that, you need to use the USB port from the back of the Nord to the USB into the computer. So what you need is a USB B (Nord side) cable to the USB C on your computer. Something like this: USB B to USB C cable: amzn.to/40ampyk. Warning: If your computer is on the older side, you'll need a USB B (Nord side) to USB A (Computer side) instead. (Note that the Amazon link is an affiliate link but won't cost you any more to use it.). - Good luck and keep the questions coming. Thank you so much for this video, this helped a lot. I’m on Windows and I had the problem that after the download of some samples the cache symbol didn’t appear. I don’t know if that’s a window thing, but under edit/ preferences my cache size was set to zero and you can also choose a different place/ directory for the cache. After changing the size and place now everything works fine
Marc, great video as always! I just have one complaint. The app, like the older versions, only recognize one keyboard at a time. When in my studio, my keyboards are always connected through USB. I wish the app could detect both and allow you to chose which keyboard to work with via dropdown list. I have to turn one off to force the app to see the other one. Not a major problem but I'm surprised this was not addressed in such a major update of Sound Manager.
@ldifalco2010 Thanks, Lou! I completely agree! They probably figured it wasn't worth updating the app as most folks own only one Nord. But the more I look around, the more I see that there is a growing number of people with multiple Nords, so the idea is not so far-fetched as it was in the early years of their history. Good suggestion for a future change. I also recommend that they let us audition the sounds right from the app as well so we don't have to run back to the website to do that.
@@MyKeysToMusic What I really like is the ease of making updates. I noticed on my Electro that the tiny keyboard icon was not present in the "Inst" column but I knew those samples were installed. The app was telling me that I had an older version. By simply selecting the older version on the keyboard and the newer one in the sound library and then clicking "Substitute Selected Sound", the old version was erased, new version downloaded and installed with one click. This is a great and simple feature that saves a a lot of time.

I have a Nord Electro 4D and notice in one of my programs that the sample library sound (horns) and the organ ( B3) volumes are not the same. Is there a way I can individually adjust these volumes them store to the program?

@@boazpiek Hmm, If you've attempted to use the Nord Sound Manager v9 with your keyboard and it doesn't work, it's likely because your OS is outdated. Even with a slightly older version of the Nord Sound Manager, you still might find that it doesn't work. The OS and the Sound Manager go hand-in-hand like this. Also, you shouldn't have to go to a Nord specialist to update your OS; it should be a simple matter of downloading the latest OS from the Nord website and installing it first on your Stage. There seems to be a bug in the v 2.64 version update of the Nord Stage 3. In program view the loaction numbers do not correspond anymore to the location number on the keyboard. E. g. On my Stage program Rhodes 1 is loctated at A:32 on the keyboard, in sound manager it is shown as Bank A no.12, This should be fixed immediately!

@henrikchristensen6609 A few users have identified a possible bug in the software (version 9) whereby the cache settings appear to "turn themselves off." *Try this:* Under the "Edit" menu, go to "Preferences." There you'll see options for "cache" - make sure the cache is on and it has room available on your computer. Then, the next time you do a backup, it will still be slow, but then every time after that it "should be" much quicker. Feel free to report back with your findings... - Marc

I just downloaded on windows and even though they are similar, my SM is not doing some of the fancy stuff your's is and it says I'm in version v9.00
