Isn’t great how Dorothea connects to folklore ? Taylor has stated that she believes that Dorothea went to the same school as Betty, James, Inez and Augustine. Also, I like to think that Dorothea is the narrator in Tis’ the Damn Season”. The song depicts a famous person who lives in a big city who comes back home to relight an old flame / hookup. The narrator, Dorothea, feels like being back in her hometown is the road that she should have taken. Now, in the song “Dorothea”, the narrator is Dorothea’s ex / old hookup who resides in their hometown and wonders how the now famous Dorothea is doing in Hollywood. The narrator probably went to the same school as well because they mention a little moment they had with Dorothea under the bleachers. I just love the fictional and sometimes non-fictional stories that come about with folklore and evermore. Simply lovely, Taylor!
This is a really cool theory! One thing, though, I thought the narrator of this song was a friend of hers, not an old flame? Mainly because they mentioned only seeing Dorothea through a tiny screen now ( Probably indicating they keep in touch through facetime or whatnot ). I suppose this isn't solid evidence, though, since it's perfectly possible for them to be still keeping in touch and singing the things they couldn't say to her face.
This song hurts but also comforting. It’s like you’re an old book, waiting for someone you know to read it again. Like you’re still the same even though they have changed.
I love how Taylor is writing more about the women in her life: Her family, her friends, her ex old friends, women she admired and then got the house lol, her fans!

@@bamboleo6348 let's put it all together: the girl from You Belong With Me after her glow-up decides to pursue a career in acting. She starts out by performing in her school's theatre group and the guy from YBWM is her biggest cheerleader. After a few years of acting in local theatres, she realizes she needs to make a big move for getting that big break. She decides to move out to LA and the guy is supportive but deep down he kind of hopes/thinks (which he might dismiss as being practical), she isn't going to make it big because rarely anyone does. Initial struggles weigh her down and the guy suggests that maybe she should move back to her old hometown and they can start over. She refuses and recognizes that he is unknowingly holding her back. She breaks up with him and goes on struggling. Now, she had her big break, she is a celebrity in Hollywood. The guy still longs for her and somewhere in his heart believes she does too.
The lyrics could be about selena “Hey dorothea do you ever stop thingking about me when we were younger down in the park” - they were friends since 2009, i think taylor is just curious if selena ever stop thinking about her 🤔 “You got shiny friends since you left town” - for me the meaning of this lyrics is when selena decided to have break from social media and people haven’t heard from her for almost a year, selena spend time with her friends raquel and others all the time. “And if you’re ever tired of being known for who you know, you know you’ll always know me” - selena has mental health issues because of her lupus, probably she’s tired of being known and she’s tired with people/paparazzi who link her with justin all the time. Taylor wanted to say that despite of that she’s not alone, taylor also experienced that but she’s brave and life must go on. “But its never to late to come from my side the stars in eyes shining brighter than tupelo” - selena somehow loses her confidence after everything she been through. Taylor want her bestfriend to be back to herself again. “Selling make up and magazine” - we all know selena just launched her make up line “rate beauty”. “From you id buy anything” - taylor tryna say she will always be number 1 supporter of selena. I bet everyone's gonna name their daughters Dorothea, Betty, Este, Danielle, Inez or Marjorie. And the boys- James. Wondering what names Taylor will come up with next
for tay she's Dorothea, for me she's my cousin, we we're so close just like sisters, it's crazy we had so much memories. i remember the only thing that we argued about was our future and dreams, and now since she got married, she traveled away from our boring little town, and now we only say "hi, how are you?" on Christmas.. this song makes me cry everytime i listen to it because it reminds me that people do grow, change, and forget about the fact that i ever existed in one of my favorite people's life.. it will never be the same ever again.
I love how Taylor sings this song in such a happy way even though it is a sad song. it makes me feel that the narrator is a wise and very optimistic guy who will keep smiling even after life shatters him into pieces. I would like to hear more songs written from his perspective.
the way Taylor emphasizes Dorothea’s name at the end with so much emotion gets me every time because you can feel the pain of the narrator calling out to her 😭🥺💔
Taylor said that Dorothea went to the same school as Betty, James and Inej... Dorothea skipped the prom. And James saw Betty dance with someone else during their prom... Omg ❤️
What is so *impressive* about Taylor's last two albums to me is how all the *songs are so similar* in style yet *all sound different.* Every song sounds new but fits the theme. *How does she do it?*
i think of my childhood best friend when i hear this song. we grew up together, and we did everything together. we were as close as sisters. a few years back, she moved to a different state, and for a while, i still saw her every other weekend when she was in town with her dad. we had such a strong bond that even her moving states didn’t separate us. the thing that did separate us though, was us simply growing apart as we got older. in my opinion, i think that will always hurt worse than having a big fallout, because you don’t really have a reason to not be friends anymore, but you just aren’t. i still love her more than anything. i still know her better than she does, i still know her house as well as my own, i can still read her as well as i could when we were still friends. i always wish she would come back to me. i only see her through mutual friends online. i see all of her new friends, her new school, her new hobbies, her new town. i just hope she knows that i will always be here, and that i will always be a major part of her childhood. i miss my dorothea, and i love my dorothea more than anything, and i just hope she knows that.
@Selupus STOP Singing about My King First of all, ewww. Second, this song is fictional, and the theory says she was singing about Selena, not Justin. They're not the same person, and their relationship is like, prehistoric, at this point, and Taylor can't stand him, so she wouldn't write such a nice song from his perspective. Actually, Taylor has never written a song for or about Just Bieber
Please tell me "Dorothea" and "Tis the damn season" is related to each other. I'll freak out coz both the songs seems to be perspective of two people of same story.
omg i saw comments about this song being about Selena and i was like how? but then I remembered yesterday when I heard that line I was like oh like Selena
This song always reminds my childhood bestfriend who moved to America, she was from the Philippines , and everything that reminds me of her makes me still happy and I'm rooting for her and I hope the best everything for her!
How is this about selena if it is from the perspective of someone who is not famous who talks about her friend who did get fame but was normal before that. And taylor is famous too so I think it might be inspired by her personal life and maybe a bit by selena but it’s fictional

Life's really too short to pretend you don't like Taylor Swift
I bet Selena shed tears of joy.
this made me shed tears of joy for her ngl imagine having a friendship like this. its pure love ❤️
this song makes me cry because it reminds me of when your nice sweet friend leaves you for the popular kids

It's fine. Keep going love
for tay she's Dorothea, for me she's my cousin, we we're so close just like sisters, it's crazy we had so much memories. i remember the only thing that we argued about was our future and dreams, and now since she got married, she traveled away from our boring little town, and now we only say "hi, how are you?" on Christmas..
this song makes me cry everytime i listen to it because it reminds me that people do grow, change, and forget about the fact that i ever existed in one of my favorite people's life.. it will never be the same ever again.

it makes me feel that the narrator is a wise and very optimistic guy who will keep smiling even after life shatters him into pieces.

I DONT GET IT PLS EXPLAIN
But in Betty James says "dans with him" but Dorothea is a girl?

"You're a Queen selling dreams, makeup and magazines" Selena checks all the boxes
@Selupus STOP Singing about My King your baby was a FLOP so shut up
@Selupus STOP Singing about My King First of all, ewww.
