Exploring Long Island - Bahamas Bound, Episode 4 - Top Attractions and Points of Interest

- After landing at Stella Maris Airport (MYLS) on Long Island, Bahamas, our family adventures continued over the next several days. Join us as we explore Long Island and attempt to show you what to do and see, should you elect to make a similar trip. Our travels included Cape Santa Maria Resort, Columbus Point, the Shrimp Hole, Hamilton's Cave, Dean's Blue Hole, Max's Conch Bar, and the Tropic of Cancer beach, among others. Long Island proved to be a wonderful island, with amazingly warm people, and we cannot recommend it enough if you're also planning a trip to the out islands!

Absolutely love your videos! I too live and fly in Florida (KMLB) and can so relate to your in-state adventures. I've flown to 82 of the 103 public use airports in the peninsula (my own 100 airport challenge), so when I see your videos into the same places I've flown to it's like I'm re-living those flights, thank you! That being said I must say the Bahamas, and in particular, the out islands are my favorite GA destination by far. Long Island is up there on the most enjoyed list. I love that you encouraged your kids to take the jump into Deans! As you know, it looks a LOT higher when you are standing up on that cliff and a lot of people would have said it's too dangerous. Bravo! I'm sure they will remember it forever. Before your next trip over why not give us a heads up and maybe I can share a secret spot or two I've been to that you wont find in any tour book. Keep 'em coming!

You're not kidding about Dean's; even I was surprised how much higher the jump looks from the top! The kids loved it. Great video! Makes us look forward to our upcoming Bahamas trip! Kelli, Mary said no way she would have jumped off the cliff! Good job! A.J. your "right seat" driving skills were top notch. You look ready for your CFI. I've driven in the UK many times and from the right seat it was the traffic circles I hated the most!
If Mary can fly a helicopter, she can handle that cliff jump. Tell her that Kelli and I want to see her do it one day. That said, Kelli despises traffic circles also. Kelli just told me that she hates traffic circles more than cliff jumps, so there's that.
I do need to get on my commercial rating and CFI - It's time for me to make some progress on that front. Feel free to keep reminding me from time to time, just to keep me accountable to my own goals.

That's hilarious. Have a great time! Kelli wanted me to remind you that if you go to Dean's Blue Hole and jump from the cliff, make sure you "pencil" into the water unless you want to feel it later. She says that her "pencil" turned into an "ironing board" and it wasn't too pleasant to land that way.
@@DoubleDawgDare We are just going to sit here in the water and enjoy it for our stay. Been there a couple of times before but didn’t jump.
Well, in that case, the trip up to Columbus Point is super simple as it's right next to the resort. If you go, take the little path on the right, next to the stairs, and that takes you to the beach below the monument with the cliffs in our thumbnail. That was the most beautiful spot we saw on our trip and it was absolutely full of beautiful little shells and sea glass. If you grab a taxi, I would suggest that you ask for "Eddie's Reliable Taxi" - He does a great job! Tell him we say hi!
Just found yout channel I love it! I love the Bahamas and I can't wait till you check out Andros . I loved there for many years and it is so beautiful and unspoiled.

Now this is the place to own a private airstrip! 😉 Enoyed the tour of the island's sights and offerings. I could hang out all day at Max's, or ToC beach. Especially liked the drone shots.
No doubt! It would be a great place for an airstrip! Max's was a really chill hangout and restaurant. We will definitely be stopping at Max's the next time we visit Long Island. Thank you for letting us know that you enjoyed the video!

The amount of effort that goes into a video is always surprising. Kelli gets all the credit for our video editing... she's a trooper. I mainly just do the flying and the camera work. Glad to hear you have enjoyed our stuff!

Thank you very much, George! I can't recall the exact prices, however, if I remember correctly, the resort posts the prices online. Cape Santa Maria Resort is where we stayed. Just watched your video from our home in Athens, GA - GO DAWGS! We are thinking of taking a family trip to the Bahamas this summer. Would you recommend Santa Maria Resort?
Without hesitation, we would recommend the resort. We had a great time while we were there and have every intention of going back.
Another great video. So what's the cost of stuff. Live av gas, rental car and rooms. Also got this question from a fellow pilot do they check the radio license? Oh yeah my turbulence indicator broke. the sticky pad that was 10 plus years old doesn't stick that well. So off to get some Velcro. This maybe a big job may have to pull out the big boy tools. But I have watched several youtube videos so I got this lol.
Thank you for the compliment! I've never had anyone ask to see my radio station licence or radio operator's permit. I do have both, however, just in case the need arises.
Fuel (100LL) was about $10/gal (that one hurt a bit). Room rate is seasonal, but was about $400 per night while we were there, though pilots get a 15% discount if you book with the hotel. Rental car was about $60/day, if I remember correctly.

Great memories. We got the timing just about right. We did a Thursday AM through Sunday AM and were able to do everything we really wanted.
We are thinking about staying here, and getting a bugalow, does the fridge hold ice? We were going to buy our own alcohol to save money. Or does the resort provide ice?
It was a mini fridge in our bungalow. It really only had a shelf freezer. We tried to freeze ice pops for the kids but it wasn’t cold enough. Don’t know about the resort having ice-didn’t go looking for it.
They have ice at the main desk for free. We just got back from a week at Cape Santa Maria, it was amazing.
