"GRACIAS A LA VIDA" - Dutch Tour (August/September 2006):
After years of studying music in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba, Ricardo "Arístides" Bekema, together with his Estudiantina Ensemble orchestra, family and friends, decided to organize a tour for his teachers Eva de la Caridad Griñan and Gabino Jardines Cisneros.
"I Wanted to thank them both for all their lessons, love and endless support I got. In my time in Cuba I became very close with both of them and was proud to be called "her son" by Eva".
Eva Griñan and Gabino Jardines made a great tour through the Netherlands and on dozens of occasions accompanied by Ricardo's Estudiantina Ensemble Orchestra.
* Eva de la Caridad Griñan - (La Voz de Oro de Santiago de Cuba), a unique singer who started her musical training in the 1960's at the National College of Music of Cuba and during this period, as a soloist, founded with others the choir called "grupación Coral Orfeón Santiago". Until 1984 she was a member of the quartet "Cuarteto Vocal Proposición Cuatro". In 1980, with the song "Karina, mi noviembre azul" by Daniel Vázquez, she won the First Prize at the "Benny Moré" festival as well as the prize for the best interpretation at the 1st "Pacho Alonso" festival in Santiago de Cuba. Eva Griñan has performed at many festivals, including the "Lira Oro" festival in Bratislava (1980), where she was honored with the Special Prize for Artistic Expression. Of special note are her performances during the festivals "Adolfo Guzmán" and "Boleros de Oro Internacional" in the Cuban capital Havana. Her repertoire covers the full range of musical styles of traditional Cuban music and ranges from Bolero, Danzón, Son, Guaracha and Guajira.
* Gabino Jardines Cisneros (El maestro de la Guitarra). If there is anyone who masters his instrument, it is this genius guitarist. Gabino Jardines has years of experience and is an indispensable part of the musical scene of his native city Santiago de Cuba. He started his musical career as a clarinetist in a school music band. He then studied saxophone at the Santiago de Cuba Conservatory and founded a band with fellow students with which he performed at numerous festivals. As a guitarist, he started playing in several bands including "Combo Inspiración", "Orquesta Hanoi" and others and then performed with famous names such as Elena Burke or María Elena Pena. Since 1999, Gabino Jardines has accompanied many musicians who perform in this world-famous Trova at the “Casa de la Trova” in Santiago de Cuba. Due to his excellent guitar playing and his great musical talent, Gabino Jardines was appointed as a professional musician of the first category by the “Centro de la Música” (Cuban Music Institute). A decisive factor for this appointment was, among other things, that this instrumentalist could empathize with the entire repertoire of Cuban musical styles.
