Bought one of these Eddie Bauer '98s New and drove it for years and it never once stranded us. We got into a downsizing frenzy about 10 yrs ago and sold it for a song to my sister-in-law's family and it never left them beside of the road even one time. We got in two car crashes that totaled both of our smaller vehicles and could have killed us. We were looking for ANYTHING that I could drive to work each day and Sis said we could have our black expedition back. It looked pretty sad but I waxed it up and it is just absolutely beautiful! So nice to have it back!
My mother just retired her '99 with 320,000 miles on it this last year. Crazy how my parents drove me back from the hospital in it after my birth, and I learned to drive in it years later. It was hard seeing it go, like the lost of a relative in a sense. My mother cried when we drove away from the scrapper. It had a lot of issues towards the end, but damn was it loyal. Never let us down or left us on the side of the road, even on its last drive. I ended up finding another expedition the same year for $2500 with 130,000 miles on it, and it's been just as loyal for her.
I have a 1998 Ford Expedition XLT with the 5.4 L and air suspension. Very smooth and comfortable. These are well made, incredibly reliable, and smooth. They also sell for very little probably making them about the best value on the road. I agree with the comment about the old Mercedes. Build quality of this generation Expedition is much better than today's Mercedes (not that difficult to achieve) and on par with Mercedes from about 1988-1992.
I just bought an 01 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer 2wd w/o Sunroof For 1,200 on a steal! And i giggle everytime i get in the driver seat and start it up, Its old but in a way that a Mercedes is old, even though the years have gone by its still a really nice vehicle. (Plus its big so if ppl look at you funny in traffic you can just laugh and look over there heads)
Kylin Snow Idk why but Yeah Expeditions are kinda easy to get but itd be insane to find a like new F150 model for under 5k. But then again it does have a truck bed which can earn money. And also happy for u and ur truck!
I remember my grandpa owning a 2002 Expedition XLT trim and it had a beautiful blue exterior with the same tan leather interior, but then he had to sell it because it ran into a transmission issue and it costed too much to replace so he replaced the vehicle with a 2011 Toyota Tundra, I miss that Expedition so badly, it was fun to ride in, yet so is the Tundra.
tr v Ford cars (old and new) are very popular where I live, and there’s a good reason for that too. Ford cars tend to last longer than GM and Chrysler. I own a 2016 Ford Escape, but I also like the older Ford Escape as well as the rest of Ford’s older SUV and Truck lineup. 1 thing I really hate about the older models though is the faster beep when it’s telling you to put the seat belt on. But thankfully, they’ve changed to a different beep in the newer models. Other than that beep though, I really like the older models, as well as the newer cars too.
@@MasterJim2020 I drive a 2002 Dodge intrepid with 226.000 miles. For now I'm thinking about finding something a little newer. It's been decent other than the typical 2.7 water pump replacement at 217.000 miles. Other than that no issues with the engine or transmission.
tr v That’s awesome!! My Mom had a early 90’s Chrysler Town & Country and her Aunt had a early 90’s Dodge Caravan, which both vans are the same vehicle. Those were good cars but sadly a few years after those vans came out, that’s when Chrysler started to go downhill. Don’t get me wrong though. I like some of the newer Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram vehicles. But when you consider something as bad as the Chrysler PT Cruiser, the Chrysler 200, the Dodge Dart and the Jeep Liberty, you’ll be scratching your head thinking that you should’ve gotten something else. Maybe for your next vehicle, you could think about getting a Dodge Charger, a Ford Fusion, a Ford Focus, a Toyota Camry, or a Honda Accord; just to name a few choices for a Sedan.
@@MasterJim2020 I want to go back to a Buick I think. I bought the Dodge because I had $1200 in 2014. It was the best running car I found for the money. But I love buicks more.
GET IT, trust me. My dad has one its a 99 expedition he had for 11 years. the 5.4l V8 that came in his eddie bauer model has 237xxx miles on it and it has NEVER EVER broken down.
This was the vehicle from my childhood. I used to have this Ford Expedition (the same model year as this one in the video, except that it's blue). This was one of the best and most reliable vehicles that I could ever have, and it felt like if I were to drive a Toyota, and it's rather a cute SUV, and to be fairly honest, I would've rather take this thing to college rather than a newer vehicle. I honestly regret trading this in for a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox since this vehicle (The Chevrolet Equinox) had some problems with the engine (it's a 2.4L in-line 4-Cylinder model) which is pretty costly, and the check engine light would light up sometimes, and all of the sudden, it goes off a few days later. And overall, if I were to be smart enough of getting a reliable engine for me to go to college, then I would've never traded this vehicle in for a Chevy Equinox, and if I had to get rid of it for fuel efficiency reasons, then I would rather buy a Toyota Corolla or a Honda Civic.
My Aunt had the exact same car! Eddie Bauer edition, color, and rims. My dad tells me that my uncle got for my aunt from a guy who just wanted to get rid of it. It was a good price, had low miles, and was in good condition. Don't know why they got rid of it to be honest. I don't it think it was because the car was unreliable, I just think they wanted something newer. I am actually looking at and old Expedition or Explorer. Great car, awesome drive. P.S. love the song at 3:55.
Wow, What A Great Test Drive Video, Of The 1998, Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer. This Is My Top Number 1, Favorite Car, From All Of The Other Cars. And, I Already Surprised My P.e Teacher, Mr Suarez, With A Brand New Car. And, I Surprised Him, With A 1998, Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer. He Felt So Emotional, Because, His Other Car, Had Brokened Down. So, He Wanted To Buy A Brand New Car, But, It Caused Seven Thousand Dollars. So, He Didn't Buy The Car, Because, He Didn't Have Enough Money. And, He Went Home, Really Disappointed. But, Then, I Surprised Him.
Just got my 2000 Expedition EB, with air suspension, back on the road after sitting for almost 2 yrs. Had some repairs to do and couldn't get to it right away and didn't need the vehicle (broke both bolts on the thermostat housing and had to drill them out and find an extension tap and get new bolts from Ford) . Once I got it fixed it fired right up. Needs an oil change and some more antifreeze in it before I can drive it fully, for now just some trips up and down the driveway, drive is .2 miles long. The wife likes it and wants to keep it for now.
my parents found one for 3000 150,000 miles on it they are looking for my sister who lives in michigan and has a lincoln towncar and everyone knows that they suck in the snow so she needs an suv for the winter . i looked up reviews and i have a great feeling about it. i really do
@mrjabr1995 230 hp 325 torque. in 99-02 it was bumped up a little to 260 hp 345 torque. also the engine was called "triton" cause modular had a bad rep in the past so they named it to "triton". its a SOHC engine. 2 cams. one on each head. these tanks can go for ever. some even 300K+.
I love my expedition 1998 I put 26' rims on it and its sitting on the side of my house it needs a new trans for the second time.. it has 180k on it.. I sure do miss driving it
my uncle used to have Eddie Bauer in this exact colour. back in those days of 90`s people of Russia where considering this car an expensive luxury..well, i remember the price, it was like $70K back in 1997 in Russia.
@youngb1ood the rear has bags and the front has air shocks. same difference. im just glad mine dosent have it. if something goes out on it then your tracing a problem. unless your lucky and a bag pops.
@goldeneye4564 i love expeditions. I've had a every generation up until present day, and non of my newer ones excited me like my 1998, it had autotrac 4WD, 5.4 trition v8, and it was eddie bauer, which is not top of the line anymore, king ranch is which is what i have on my 2009 expedition.
@24fan48fan you pull on the handle the door opens. haha no what do you mean? the big handles on top are to pull the door closed. the latch handles are below that below the window switch.
I have a question, I just bought one of this I am in love with my truck , but it says 128.000 miles in 2016 .... it's that possible ???? This truck is gonna be 20 years old in a couple of years .... also my truck looks so new , what happened?
i'm not a big fan of suvs but it seems to ride well. also u think you can find out the name of the song heard on the stereo from 3:57 to 4:06? thnx! :)
@abram7117 it can tow heavy trailer, it has good low end torque to get anything heavy rolling, it just won't get there snappy fast, but yes indeed it can tow really heavy trailer, in 1998 about 7,900 lbs of it lol
even though it was a Plymouth voyager, American automakers used to make cars with poorly constructed interiors from the Plymouth Voyager to a Lincoln Town Car
@kendrickevans301 lol, didn't Ford put the 4.6 in these too, and the 5.4 in Excursions and F-350s? Must of been abysmal! and I thought these were supposed to be able to tow heavy trailers!
i love these trucks my uncle had a 98 pretty much basic to pull his 19ft boat no he wentto a 99 silverado ,93 f250 and now a 97 tahoe ew chevy but the tahoe is alright just im a ford guy
these so called "monsters" are actually easier to drive than your given sedan or crossover because you can see out of them so much better (in my opinian)
last time I checked a full sized, body on frame, 5,500 lb v8 SUV was not a "Toy." Heck, the new Sequoias weigh more then the Expedition XL and are nearly 3 seconds faster to 60.
dude what i wanna ride in is a 1999 ford F150 v6 4.2 liter v6 and a 5 speed manual manual windows locks and mirrors with 281,241 miles does need a speaker repair on the right it also needs a new muffler, and its missing a hub cap
@kendrickevans301 well i am only 17 years old. i paid for my 97 expo full in cash, and i plan on buying a king ranch in the near future, they are great trucks!

That's my rig! I LOVE my Expedition! Mine has 220k miles and still starts on a dime. Most reliable and comfortable vehicle I've ever owned!
Is it good on gas? How much is it to fill the tank? And last thing how much hours does it last full tank?
5.4 or 4.6?
Respond you goon!

I Like The 2007 Ford F-150 Lariat
We had one of these, back in 2002 we bought a 98'. Thing was a beast and built like a tank!

the transmission on the 1997-2002 Ford Expedition

4-speed E4OD automatic
4-speed 4R100 automatic
4-speed 4R70W automatic

my gramma's xlt rocks, even if it doesn't have leather, the expedition is definitely is a strongly built, full size all-american suv
the 1997-2002 Ford Expedition was assembled in
